@rdsl05 The current 2.01 Airware supports the airspeed/altitude sensors. I don't believe the updates are region-specific so it shouldn't be an issue if you are outside the US.
@garrrbo Latest indication is towards the end of September. I'd suggest you back order one on the Horizon Hobby Website if you want to make sure you get one out of the first batch!
This is a very old video I have a DX8,but mine has the DSMX protocol and I just replace my old tx lipo with a new tx lipo, the radio is on its third battery and I did all the firmware updates available.Even to this day I still like the silver face on it.The downside is back in 2011 I had the throttle/rudder stick assembly replaced,it was still under warranty.A lot of this radio had the stick replaced. It would go off center, even after calibration.
@HorizonRCdotCom Actualy the telemetry TM1000 & TM1100 can be used with ANY DSM2 receivers. You will get the telemetry display of the available sensors inclusing RX voltage. What you WONT get is FLIGHT LOG information unless you have a DATA port RX.
@bluefisherking Take a look at the manual, page 15 (Swash Type): only supports: Normal, 3-servo 120 CCPM, 3-servo 140 CCPM, 3-servo 90 CCPM, 3-servo 135 CCPM, and 2-servo 180 CCPM. Hope this helps
@RCxNZ I guess we confused you a bit. No doesn't shut off. It just warns you of something like low voltage (time to land!), throttle stick not at low at start up or any of a dozen other functions you can assign a warning to. First time it vibrates in your hands you are shocked! Anyway just more fun with your hobby.
Holy crap. I knew I had seen this dude somewhere (not Jim, the other guy). I saw this guy at a fly in this weekend at the HH vendor booth and he looked familer. Couldn't figure out why until now.
@HorizonRCdotCom Very helpful, thanks! I hadn't seen that the manual was out yet.. but thanks to your reply I have just looked and downloaded it :-) Cheers!
@mbyers1971 it warns you if its going to turn off which then you move a stick or whatever to not let it shut off and there will be a setting no doubt to set how long till it shuts off too
Great radio, gotta get it when it comes out. I listen to your weekly podcasts, keep up the geat work :-) Questions : Will telemetry be available in future for 6 and/or 7 channel receivers or only the 8 channel? Will the receivers be Lipo Ready? Thank You, Mario aka Skydive4ever
@redhotpearl1 I'm pretty sure Horizon and JR are parting ways. Atleast on the radios. They already have a new frequency band called DSMM and a new radio called the XG7 I think. Notice how horizon has not said anything about it though. So If it does get telemetry it will probably be a brand new 9ch. Radio on a new frequency.
Got my new DX8 today, worked perfectly out of the box. One thing I don't understand however is, you plug the telemetry module into the switch plug on the AR8000, so where does the switch plug go?
Thanks for the preview. It is crazy how much I don't *need* this, yet sooo badly *want* it! Does the Heli mode support both H4+ and H4X quad copter modes? (That would help me convince myself that I need it after all!)
Hey I have a DX7s and want to upgrade to a DX8, do they allow swapping the models over the SD card back and forwards? Because I'd like to keep my DX7s as my backup radio just incase something goes wrong (Murphy's Law)....
Will there be an update to include the new airspeed and altitude telemetry on screen? If I'm not in the US will I be able to get an update like that through the SD card slot?
I know you asked this a year ago, but maybe this answer helps someone else some day. But it's a sad answer - no, you can't tranfer models between the DX7 and the DX8.
another slow interview by jim but what I find stupid is that they put a New Zealand wall plug in the package when horizen doesn't even ship to New Zealand clever..... I have to go getting it from the UK don't you want my money?
the auto shut off could be dangerous on electrics, if you are working on plane and it shuts off the motor could start pulsing causing injury. Do not like this feature at all.
@NNOOPPAARRAATT Telemetry can be used with any receiver that has a data port, so yes, if you use a receiver with a data port you can use it in a heli.
@Rcflyyer1 There are no plans for a Transmitter-only version at this time. The DX8 comes out of the box configurable for modes 1-4
@rcrules14 You can go to the product page of the plane you're looking for a setup for, click on Manuals and Support and the setup would be there.

@Nicsrulez I believe so but you'll want to double check the manual.

@Skydive4ever The telemetry will be compatible with any receiver with a Data Port.
@rufus324 It is DSM2.
@cooldaddyy Nope, you change it in the software actually. It has modes 1-4 right in the radio out of the box!
@TheCoxy1000 If shops are doing that it is on their own. We do not have any sort of trade-in promotion.

@SJLeano This would be a great radio for Helis!

@HorizonRCdotCom Mine has been back ordered since the first day you were able to take B/O.......when I thought I would see it Early Sep
@rufus324 DSM2. they dont use DSM anymore. he just messed up when he said "this is a DSM radio..."
@HorizonRCdotCom but you have to open up the dx8 to
set the spring from the left to the right, don´t you?
Hey I have a DX7s and want to upgrade to a DX8, do they allow swapping the models over the SD card back and forwards? Because I'd like to keep my DX7s as my backup radio just incase something goes wrong (Murphy's Law)....
What about a 4servo wing sailplane with crow with elevatorcompensation?
Can it do that?
Cheers.
Spektrum Dx8 or Jr X9503 for Hardcore heli flyer?
When will this be ready as a transmitter only MD2 Version because I would but one immediately cause this is beast compared to my DX5e.
Will there be an update to include the new airspeed and altitude telemetry on screen? If I'm not in the US will I be able to get an update like that through the SD card slot?
can the left stick center the same as the right
I have had 2 lock outs on my dx6i dsm2 any ideas?
I'm new to the hobby and I wanted to know if you can use it on the traxxas summit or a rc car?
they need to figure out a way to mod one of those handheld anemometer's into a telemetry hookup that tells you roughly the aircrafts speed
@mbyers1971 It is not an auto shut off! It sounds an alarm but does not shut off
hi, i was just wondering if i could use this radio for a heli?
Why is the Batterie not in the Box includet
I know you asked this a year ago, but maybe this answer helps someone else some day. But it's a sad answer - no, you can't tranfer models between the DX7 and the DX8.
WHAT IS THE SETTING FOR THE DX 8 FOR THE BLADE 120SR
Just setup a blank model and you're there. The BNF was designed to fly without the need of any special programming.
Do you know if i am out from europe and buy a europe model, could i change meu region do US-247? will be an update do to this?
When is it going to ship?
I wonder how I can fly with my old normal DX6i :-))
looks kinda like a dx6i and dx7 but better
@matthewt1501
This is actually really cheap for a radio/rx package.
Enjoy your retirement Jim, You'll surely be missed on the web...
@rufus324 lol i guess some people should watch the whole vid???
lol 7:12
is this radio DSM or DSM2?
@YourFriendlyMe no problem mate, I ll remove it
@jakuba8 no i was but then they made it private so i look like i was second sorry to burst your bubble
yeah the problem is called spektrum module, get a better module for it like frsky
its frustrading i know i dont need it i would need a dx6i or dx7 but i want 1
another slow interview by jim but what I find stupid is that they put a New Zealand wall plug in the package when horizen doesn't even ship to New Zealand clever..... I have to go getting it from the UK don't you want my money?
I waisted my money in my Dx6i, my concern is this radio will be more losted money.
the auto shut off could be dangerous on electrics, if you are working on plane and it shuts off the motor could start pulsing causing injury. Do not like this feature at all.
spektrum sucks, the range is a joke especially on the surface stuff
@HorizonRCdotCom but you have to open up the
transmitter to set the spring from the left to the rightm
don´t you?
