Funny thing is, notice how Max said the background music was "so Akira it hurts"? The Summer Olympics of 2020 are set to take place in Tokyo. Akira had the 2020 Games taking place in Tokyo. So far, it's either looking like a really bad coincidence, or fate is telling us that Tokyo will finally be destroyed in 2020.
Musomania27 No, but Japan has a habit of having Tokyo be destroyed in almost every anime they make, so I'm treating it as a "Boy Who Cried Wolf" situation; keep destroying Tokyo in the Fantasy Realm, and it might actually get blown up in the real world. What's ironic is that Team China is the protagonist team this time 'round; because China's been looking for a chance to stick it to Japan for Nanking since... well, a while now (to say nothing of the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands that China keeps being adamant about them owning, like with China's "claims" to Tibet and Taiwan).
Tokyo being destroyed isn't an anime thing, so much so as it's actually a historical, well known thing in japan. It's not like American movies where it's always New York being destroyed because it's the biggest city, it just happened so much in the past that it seems impossible it won't be destroyed and rebuilt again.
Everybody misses those dudes. Rugal is my favorite villain in this game. SPOILER ALERT: In some endings we can see Orochi trying to come back, and even Ash Crimson, unconscious, while Kukri and Elizabeth look at him. Well, Krauser inst dead as far as i know, not at least in KOF universe, but Rugal is. Would be a shame bring someone like Ash back, and forget about Rugal.
Yeah introducing a fire type boss ain't exactly top tier. Might well be a filming skeleton. They should bring Rugal, or even set up Krauser as the bad ass. You ever seen the fatal fury movies?
kingkold Not yet. Actually, i usually avoid games animations because they usually suck. But you're not the first dude that told me to watch a Fatal Fury.movie. Maybe ill watch it latter.
I think this boss is sort of the opposite. He seems really tough on the first round and then tones down a bit. I didn't seem to ever get his health down more then 10-20% with the point character but the rest of the fight seemed not too tough. I haven't beat him on the hardest yet but I only lost once on difficulty 4 of 5.
Alex Eggers on 3 i was able to win against him with alice, on my first time, and i didn't even know how to play as her, didn't lose a round, on 4 he's ok and 5 probably a little harder but i doubt he's worth a boss rage, boss rage has to be crazy hard to be cool.
Hey Max, just to let you know. There are more endings than just the credits. But to get them, you have to play with the pre-set teams to achieve those endings. I'm guessing you noticed how the characters in the character select are grouped into 3? Those are the pre-set teams meaning that in order to get different endings for story mode you have to play with one of those groups of three. For example, Kyo and those other two that are grouped are one team, meaning you have to play with Kyo and whoever is grouped with him in the character select to play through story mode while getting the ending for their team.
Nathan Hernandez KOF was the first. MVC borrowed the concept but just added the option of switching with a partner mid battle. And yeah SFxT also did the same thing.
Rival Schools did it as well way back when, play with any team you want but you want the plot you gotta stick to a team made of two of three school sets.
masterofdoom5000 Rival Schools! I completely forgot about that series XD Seriously Capcom needs to revive this franchise or either just make Batsu available as a playable character in MVC4 (If that will ever happen)
So for those who don’t know, after Verse’s death, all of the final bosses of the previous games (excluding the bosses who didn’t die) came back to life, as the souls of the bosses were inside Verse. So yes, fan favorites like Rugal and Igniz (among the others bosses) returned. Orochi did return as well, but since he had no mortal body to possess, he was a sitting duck until he got recaptured again.
Is it a joke ? WTF ? These two boss are the easiest boss to kick ass since KOF exists... Never see in KOF such a heavy boss, so slow, so powerless, no move, no agressive (waiting you ?)... Miss our old Rugal, Orochi...
Pre-set teams give actual endings, though; Japan, China, Another World, and Official Invitation are the teams that have CG edits for the Verse cutscene.
+GamerBear I meant SFV'S coffin. This game seems to have everything the FGC wants. Modes, roster, depth, combos All this considered, why should anyone bother with SFV? It's despised by most the fanbase and a lot of people are clamoring for it to die
+GamerBear Most the people want modes. Hell, lack of modes is why SFV is the flop it is. That; and the complete backlash against the gameplay. I hate USFIV, but the favorite SF that people want featured is obvious. put in a hole it cannot dig out of. Too late to salvage. Why I don't see any long term future/value and thinking if dropping the game. KOF'S problem is net code which will be addressed. By the time SFV fixes the 8F, it will have been too late to make a difference
You have to play through with all teams to get all angles of the story. Verse is connected to what happened after XIII, as a space time flux type thing.
If you pick a canon team (IE: 3 characters that are grouped in the character select screen) you have a different ending for each team. If you pay attention to the character select screen every 3 fighters are grouped.
In the world of KoF, I wonder why anyone is shocked anymore when one of these tournaments has it's final round hijacked by some powerful ancient evil. It seems to happen all the time, doesn't it?
They show in XII during some character conversations that most of them know that there's something happening nehind the scenes. In this case very few people knew that Verse would appear. I think only Japan and Another world team expected something to show up.
Glad you enjoyed it Max, especially since you said you weren't rly a KoF fan. Gonna be picking this up next week myself, been waiting for years for another one that wasn't balls complicated like The Tales of Ash arc
Max you're like my fighting game grandma and I'm okay with that :) thank you for all of the great content I love who you are and what you've done. Thanks again :)
This game has team specific endings. This cut scene will always play then immediately after the team endings play. It wont play anything if with characters from different teams defeat the final boss
I realise something here: Antonov is the ONLY organisator in KOF with no "plan" . No orochi, no saving the world, no attract the best fighters to extract their data... Just "who's the best? Cause I sure am!" I respect that.
Everyone complaining about the boss and I personally thought it was okay. Not AMAZING, but definitely not like, "BOO" worthy. Some people talkin as if the final boss is an instant refund, which I think KoF 14 is fucking FUN.
lol this boss was hilarious, antonov would have been a more ideal final boss, just make him harder, but when that thing crash landed it blew max's brain lol
Problem is, Antonov transforming assumes he's evil - he's not, just a overly confident warm and fuzzy bear. Kinda like DBZ's Hercule... perhaps in more ways than one.
on cpu level 3 is really easy max. Do the "story" (arcade) mode again on level 4 (at least) or better yet on 5. Nice challenge i think (specially, for my noobish self) on the last 2-3 fights before antonov/verse
That reminded me that some old KOF bosses are Boss Rage material. Right now, Magaki (KOF 11) is the first one that come to mind, but most of them can be a real pain to deal with...
This bad designed final boss symbolizes the Chinese invasion to KOF world, standing out and not fit to the genre at all. A subtle reference to the real world SNK being bought off by a Chinese company.
Since when is it bought by these Chinese? I seem to see all references saying that it's still Japanese and its main headquarters are in Japan. Could you kindly explain?
It's the difficulty that makes him seem that way imo. Normal teams at lvl 5 counter you alot in this and use alot of max combos if they hit confirm you. lvl 3 is easy mode, it's not normal.
Finally, no more cryptic storylines for the final bosses. Just your regular run of the mill, generic superpowered baddies. No fuss, no frills. Also, real men takes a front row seat this time around. Somewhere, Rugal and Saisyu are crying manly tears of joy.
Max, K9999 from KoF 2001 was voiced by Tetsuo's voice actor and his design is heavily influenced by Tetuso. And Kusanagi from KoF 2002 is voiced by Kaneda's voice actor. When they fight each other there is special dialogue taken from Akira.
Boss looks...eh But congrats to the FGC on its new premier game. large roster, in depth combat, and flash combos. everything the FGC wants. That a certain game failed to achieve and is bleeding out as a result.

I want all news reporters to end their segment with a big dumb wave at the camera as it tilts up towards the night sky with perfect exposure. That was a classy ending to a top bit of reporting.
So, KOF is DBZ now? I mean, fighting championship, then end of world danger? Wha, just like that? WHY? Where was the build up? You dont blow your load before the friction starts...That's way too soon...I, I don't get it...Do I have to play all 13 other KOF to get that there was some looming, ever-present evil? Wow, and I thought Deus Ex would be the worst game this year at explaining the previous story, cuz, the 12-minute into, yeah, it dont tell you shit. I miss Doom, you're angry, kill something. Plain and simple...I might just be fucking stupid tho, that is possible o-o
There is actually so much going into this boss lol Yea its an asspull that will legitimise future dream matches, but it, and other elements from this story actually cover ALL pay arcs. Play through some more teams or revisit older kofs, if you have them.
This game seems to break the pattern that was established with the previous games. Although 12 broke the pattern by not having a story. It usually runs this way Dream Match, 3 game story arc, Dream match. Looking at beginning of the series 94 was the dream match. 95-97 was the Orochi arc with the stakes getting higher and higher with each game. Rugal out for revenge in 95, Goenitz trying to revive Orochi in 96, Then fighting Orochi in 97. The NEST saga did the same thing. Clone army in 99, Space laser in 2000, and dropping a space station 2001.The third arc the Tales of Ash kept the pattern going with building up the threat until you got Saiki in 13. This game jumps to the mega threat so fast it doesn't which leave much to build on.
AG21films don't remember Hercule holding a tournament, being defeated, then having Cell drop in and take things over. Your comment is proof that people on the Internet, complain just to complain. L.
Man why do people still come to these Tournaments do you not remember the other Avatars of Rage that appeared any wrecked havoc? Like the mediators that sell the tickets make everyone sign wavers. Awesome gameplay as always Max.
7:24- I'm glad they subtitled his win quote. I might not have understood what he was saying otherwise.
The big same
Lol I didn't notice
It's like the same with Kid Buu in Dragon Ball Fighterz
Reminds me of KOF '96 when Goenitz appears and destroys the arena. I knew damn Antonov couldn't be the true boss of this game.
+AshramAstarcia Finally? Were you expecting it or something? Lol
Musomania27 No, but Japan has a habit of having Tokyo be destroyed in almost every anime they make, so I'm treating it as a "Boy Who Cried Wolf" situation; keep destroying Tokyo in the Fantasy Realm, and it might actually get blown up in the real world.

"I played Kof XIII for about a day"
That always hurts my soul, Max
I did exact same thing and I actually owned it. I'm forcing myself to enjoy fighting Games now.
we need another playthrough of story mode on the hardest difficulty!! come on guys we need a BOSS RAGE.
agreed
yeahhh me too we need boss rage!!
You get the feeling if SNK made the standard difficulty harder, SNK-BOSS Syndrome would alienate newcomers
KOF 13 Boss Rage would be way more difficult though.
WE CALL ON TO THIS WORLD... THE BOSS RAGE!!
really missing Rugal and Krauser right about now
Everybody misses those dudes. Rugal is my favorite villain in this game. SPOILER ALERT: In some endings we can see Orochi trying to come back, and even Ash Crimson, unconscious, while Kukri and Elizabeth look at him.

kingkold I only know Kraser from some fatal fury games and KOF 96. I really like him. Blitz ball!!! :)
Rugal and Krauser for president
SNK bosses....go from 0 to WTF in the blink of an eye.....
Consider he jobbed passed everyone due to the low difficulty, this difficulty spike is very much appreciated
+Chris Deebo nah the boss is easy as fuck in the difficulty Max is, Just bad luck that he lost
dude had a brainbuster suplex as a throw lol
I think this boss is sort of the opposite. He seems really tough on the first round and then tones down a bit. I didn't seem to ever get his health down more then 10-20% with the point character but the rest of the fight seemed not too tough. Same kinda thing happened in SFxT, right? I think KOF did it first though, with the whole preset team = more story thing.

masterofdoom5000 Rival Schools! I completely forgot about that series XD
Seriously Capcom needs to revive this franchise or either just make Batsu available as a playable character in MVC4 (If that will ever happen)
And there are endings for Antonov and Verse as well. You just have to make sure they get the final blow to get them.
So... am I just crazy? Or was that boss MUCH easier then SNK's usual bosses? Definitely no Igniz, or Rugal. That's for sure.
***** Ah, okay then. Max should do a Boss Rage with this guy....
And maybe revisit some older KoF games, and make Boss Rages with those.
Can't forget about Magaki
he also decreased it's health by a bit. it rekt him easy as fuck the first fight
+D.R.Caleb 2002 Rugal would be another brutal one, or KoF XI
Magaki was so bullshit, i saw people walk away from the arcade after beating Shion.
I miss the old bosses.
the impossible ones that were designed to eat as many quarters as possible?
@@bloodaonadeline8346 Hell yeah.
I kinda like Antonov, he looks normal for a KoF character yet looks original enough
Max, you gotta play the preset teams for the full stories to unfold. That's KOF tradition 101.
Well, that escalated quickly.
..
..
Soooo, what now?
Need to play with a set team for some "true endings"
Is it a joke ? WTF ? These two boss are the easiest boss to kick ass since KOF exists...
Never see in KOF such a heavy boss, so slow, so powerless, no move, no agressive (waiting you ?)...
Miss our old Rugal, Orochi...
Hmoobthoj Frenchnraug Igniz , Magaki
the boss is more challenging on the hardest difficulty, max played it on normal
You are wrong about one thing, because the description you just typed suits perfectly for Orochi on KOF '97 dude.
4 years later, but AVPboy is right. Orochi was a chump
I just love how you can play damn near anything fighting!!
6 Buster Wolves out of 5.
GLORIOUS.
So story mode is just arcade mode? That's very misleading. :\
Max should play again, but on the hardest difficulty.
Pre-set teams give actual endings, though; Japan, China, Another World, and Official Invitation are the teams that have CG edits for the Verse cutscene.
Still has something that SFV doesn't have.
Another nail in Capcom's coffin.
+GamerBear I meant SFV'S coffin. This game seems to have everything the FGC wants.
Modes, roster, depth, combos
All this considered, why should anyone bother with SFV? It's despised by most the fanbase and a lot of people are clamoring for it to die

KOF'S problem is net code which will be addressed. By the time SFV fixes the 8F, it will have been too late to make a difference
Even as a SFV fan boy, I've accepted the games fate. came out 2-3 years too early
Is it even a story behind that last boss? Seem abit random. Earlier KoF cheese bosses atleast made some sense.
there is, pretty sure max missed out on story by not picking a canon team
You have to play through with all teams to get all angles of the story. Verse is connected to what happened after XIII, as a space time flux type thing.
If you pick a canon team (IE: 3 characters that are grouped in the character select screen) you have a different ending for each team. If you pay attention to the character select screen every 3 fighters are grouped.
Hint: Play China team to get a glimpse of the situation.

wow
i miss my days
We miss you igniz you are always be the most powerful boss ever
The music instrument that you heard from 5:19 is I think Gamelan from Indonesia, they also used this in KOF 97 where they have a stage in Bali :D
"NOOO YOUUU BIG WHOREEE....WTF WAS THAT!?" My favorite part.
No one tell max that that has been the easiest boss in KoF in decades.... and not the strangest or cheapest by FAR
Antonov has so many moves from SFIV. His standing heavy punch is identical to zangief and his super move dust kick is the same as cody.
Lmao, stop comparing KoF to SF. Not even comparable.
Jin Zhang KoF came out approximately same time as SF. They have inspired each other, not one way.
That's not how the history is recorded. According to all accounts Street Fighter was first. That's not a subjective opinion either.
I realise something here: Antonov is the ONLY organisator in KOF with no "plan" . No orochi, no saving the world, no attract the best fighters to extract their data... Just "who's the best? Cause I sure am!"
I respect that.
That kid (4:02) looks like a child version of Max
He looks like child Wonder Red
Everyone complaining about the boss and I personally thought it was okay. Not AMAZING, but definitely not like, "BOO" worthy. Some people talkin as if the final boss is an instant refund, which I think KoF 14 is fucking FUN.
PYRON! "So that's where the darkstalkers went" I died when he said that XD
lol this boss was hilarious, antonov would have been a more ideal final boss, just make him harder, but when that thing crash landed it blew max's brain lol

Kinda like DBZ's Hercule... perhaps in more ways than one.
+AshramAstarcia So Antonov is one of that "good guy" final bosses?
WITCH NEKO Yep.
+AshramAstarcia Well, thats a change.
+WITCH NEKO Not at all.It happened before with Chizuru.
on cpu level 3 is really easy max. Do the "story" (arcade) mode again on level 4 (at least) or better yet on 5. Nice challenge i think (specially, for my noobish self) on the last 2-3 fights before antonov/verse
Good job Max! By beating that boss you restarted the Age of Fire!
"WHAT IS THIS...!?! AEROSMITH?!" Hahahahahha! Best... closing line... EVER!
That reminded me that some old KOF bosses are Boss Rage material. Right now, Magaki (KOF 11) is the first one that come to mind, but most of them can be a real pain to deal with...
"This is going in a direction I was not expecting."
...Wow...you really HAVEN'T played through the arcade mode in a KOF game, have you?
Looking forward to the most likely rediculous continuing story of Verse in the next game.
Is this 8-expert level?
Lol
Dang
Nop
No
The final boss must be the work of an enemy stand.
Uh... Antonov Is Actually Good :)
He Safe That Kid Life
FYI, the boss stage banksound is Balinese gamelan voice. its traditional music instrument from Indonesia
This guy is dropping brain busters on people like ftr

Yo not gonna lie max just got the game myself and your execution is on point. This one has such a stricter execution than previous Kof games.
This final boss ... has King of Fighters no ideas? Bad design and no appel ...
Tencent(Chinese Company) bought a major stake in SNK.
Oguzhan Taskin for a year old post I enjoyed his design.
@@RetryOfHealGuy Tencent again, these guys have a claw in everything. Pubg, LoL, Arena of Valor (and I heard Overwatch) Now SNK? Stop Tencent.
Verse took Gargos' and Goro's punches to make his own punchwalk fit for a final boss with a "don't give a damn" attitude.
That last boss still not as cheap as previous KOF bosses.
Agreed..... "genocide cutter!"
+LeoKingdom69 lol just had a Rugal episode
It's the difficulty that makes him seem that way imo. Normal teams at lvl 5 counter you alot in this and use alot of max combos if they hit confirm you. lvl 3 is easy mode, it's not normal.
+NirvanaNexus what number is normal then 4
King Ghidorah
What I mean is lvl 3 is too easy to be normal. They really dont do anything.
"is that the song from Akira" Maximilian Dood
took the words right out of my mouth as i was about to say it.
what is worse this games graphics or DBS's animation???
im in love with this show reminds me of old school all night game grinds with cousins
Finally, no more cryptic storylines for the final bosses. Just your regular run of the mill, generic superpowered baddies. No fuss, no frills. Also, real men takes a front row seat this time around. Somewhere, Rugal and Saisyu are crying manly tears of joy.
KOFs story mode challenge is beating the game with every team, Max.
They should bring rugal and orochi back.
I'm just wondering how after 20 years of KoF, the new champion is someone we've literally never even heard of. But I like this guy.
worst boss of KOF history.
Igniz would like a word.
Ever played Maximum Impact 2? Jivatma was even worse, and a cheap bitch to fight.
crosscutter Jivtama was child’s play if you played your cards right, Magaki on the other hand...
Worst KoF in history...
Maximum impact 2: I'm a joke for u?
I,m not fan of KOF and I don't die for loves for this game. But I have a great respect for it. This game left its legacy.
SNK boss needs to take all your quarters.
This thing will be a nightmare on the hardest difficulty. Not at Omega Rugal level, but still a worthy SNK boss
the final stage looks terrible. it looks like 2 guys fighting in front of a green screen with a washed-out picture imposed on it.
Something looks terrible in this game, you say? Kappa
yup the characters are more contrasted then the background which looks washed out.. i guess it was suppose to resemble dust but poorly executed.
+Arcade Bretonneux Kappa Beach Party?
so it wasnt me i see, yeah looked terrible, the animations where still pretty cool though
If you want 50 fighters from the start without having to buy them as DLC, some corners are gonna have to be cut.
"you cheap fuck"
sounds like an snk boss for sure
Try a KoF13 Boss Rage
Ash was a total bitch, still mained him tho lol
Saiki is so cheap and annoying as well
+leroy sopacua Definitely a hell yea on tht!!!!!
+leroy sopacua lol saiki is nothing, magaki and igniz is the real nightmare
KoFXIII bosses are hard, until you realise you can just cheap them out with crouched hard kick over and over (even on hardest).
Max, K9999 from KoF 2001 was voiced by Tetsuo's voice actor and his design is heavily influenced by Tetuso. And Kusanagi from KoF 2002 is voiced by Kaneda's voice actor. When they fight each other there is special dialogue taken from Akira.
Both of those voice actors are still alive as of the time of comment.

Geese's engrish is great
"Die Forever"? Like what the fuck does that even mean? Lolol

Geese came back from the dead, so why wouldn't his enemies do the same...?
Romdog G DAH FOR EBBUH!

"People die when they are killed"
Let that sink in slowly

I hope it takes over Pokken tbh

I really need to get out of this sour mindset against SFV. But I forgot Pokken was a thing
We not gonna mention Verse having that M. bison slide kick?

Max, I believe your now showing us your next boss rage am I right? After all whoever the fuck this final boss is is kicking your ass 7 ways to Sunday.
they ran the shit off ideas..!
SNK seriously has to make another dream match game about the Ash Saga.
That must be the lamest final boss design of the series.
Good to see that the SNK Boss syndrome is still in effect.

I'm pretty sure this is standard for KOF. I've only played two games in the series but thise final bosses were crazy with no real build up either lol
Which ones? And yes you would need to either know what happened at the end of kofxiii or play through many teams story to fully understand.
oWarlock360o the gba ones. Though that was a while ago so I might be remembering wrong.
3:38 it looks like Blaze
WTF with nowadays fighting games??? Awful characters... no creativity at all. ZERO .
As a character, Rugal is way more interesting than this... "thing".
Even EYEDOL is more interesting hahhah
i don't know guys but when i saw the floating hands of verse i just thought that master and crazy hand had become part of his moveset
Not at all rip off from DBZ Cell Games!!!!
AG21films because. it's not you dubass.
One of the worst bosses of all kof videogames
Facts
Who you gonna call? KOFbusters
Even though you lost the first match, your Geese really brought it home. Show this poser who the one and only SNK Boss is, Max!
i wonder wat that random-monster-out-of-nowhere came and destroyed the arena for..
Put this kind of Arcade-Story Mode into SF5 with multiple Endbosses and it would be fine
Verse's theme song was heavily inspired by the Bali stage theme in KOF 97
Dem sideburns are connected to his chest bush. He's my new hero.
You Thought It was God Rugal, BUT IT WAS ME VERSE!
That's hands down the least threatening, uninteresting final boss in the history of fighting games!
