Hey Russ, I bought a Simpson 260 when I was in High School. I think it was 1962 or 1963. I now always remove the batteries when not in use. It still works great. It would be interesting to see how accurate it is today.
Simpson is still in business and the internal resistors tend to increase in value (resistance) slightly over time. When I sent mine in I was pleasantly surprised how affordable the calibration was and how quickly they turned it around. The people on the phone were pleasant and professional.
