I’m in Central NJ and just got a 325 sq studio above a garage for $1400 (no washer dryer access). Only 4.5 years ago I was paying $900 for a beautiful 1 br w/ washer dryer in unit, all hardwood floors, tons of closet space, attic storage, and patio. It’s been really really really hard to adapt and to accept the way life is now. So hard to make progress and that’s why everyone is bitter, hostile and stressed these days while the wealthy are sitting in the sand at their beach houses commenting about how the average person just doesn’t like to work.
tysm for this video!! In the same boat myself rn and youre one of the ONLY people showing a realistic budget for a studio/1bed in LA whereas most other “relatable” youtubers were looking in the $3000-$5000 range MINIMUM.. like this doesnt help bc most of us cant afford that 😂🤦♀️ (also find it absolutely hilarious that so many ppl commented on your video saying the prices are insane but not on those other videos lmao)
omg thank you so much for this video. I live in NY and am planning a move to LA in a couple months and had absolutely no idea where to start. This video really helped me a lot and i’m much more confident in finding a good place for ME!
I remember seeing you in the halls of the university in Madrid 4/5 years ago during your (and also my) semester abroad. However I was too shy to come over and say hi at that time .. anyway so happy to see now that you landed a great Marketing job and found an amazing appartment, congrats! 😊 Greetings from Germany 💛
I got my 1 bedroom apt in mid-city LA in 2020 for $1,570 a month. It’s a large one bedroom with a parking spot, balcony and 2 walk in closets. There are deals all over you just have to look. If you’re looking for a brand new apt you’re for sure going to pay a premium but I wanted old LA vibes so I got what I wanted.
@@vvormwood____ 650ish? I don’t know exactly but the living room is very large, bedroom is large and has 2 walk in closets, 1 I put my desk in to take work calls when I need a quiet separate space.
@@jjgameshow2682 $20k a year? For rent alone? There are plenty of places in LA you can get a studio for $1,300, or you could rent a room for less. But $20k for year with all expenses probably would be hard.
Girl, I would say that the old stoves are cute. But also we have that kinds of stove. I would definitely want one. To have my own food, place and privacy but its just not enough money rn and looking for a job too. I do want to be independent and do my own stuff. HA im just waiting to win the lottery or something too.
Wow the rent is crazy for just a studio! I paid $1600 per month for a one bedroom apartment with all the amenities, water, washer/dryer, electric included in Texas! I love LA but I don't think I could live there comfortably! I'm glad you found a nice apartment for yourself!
better to play $700 more and live in LA than texas the wages make up the difference trust me i save more in LA than i ever did in texas and my rent in texas was $2500 for a loft the uber drivers here make 150k a year
Those numbers for utilities is really low. My utilities usually cost around $900 a month (gas, electric, and water). I moved into an apartment with plans on being a homeowner as soon as possible. Turns out that in my area it's cheaper to own than to rent.
To get a studio in SF that actually has a KITCHEN (or at least a stove!) you'll be paying 2000+ and that's not including utilities. So your place looks amazing hahaha. 💗
It probably depends on the neighborhood and landlord. I live in a similar arrangement in a suburb close to LA proper, and close to the beach. I can park on the street, leave my car doors unlocked and haven't had an issue in 2 years. A lot of retail and restaurants close by as well. Of course there were tradeoffs--its not as big as I would like and its farther away from the city center. But I get a lot of light, my main living area faces a shared garden and it's very private. And because I live close to the ocean it's rarely too hot or too cold. I can actually breathe in the sea breeze. It's also suburban so very quiet. The landlord lives on the property, and there are other tenants, but we rarely interact since we're always out and about. I did go through a real estate agency though, so I pay rent to the agency, not directly to the owner of the property.
California is insane with the rent prices. I moved back with my mom to save money about 3 years ago. I left my 2 bedroom apartment with nice kitchen and one and a half bathrooms. Cost me 1700 a month. I went apartment hunting last week and now I get less space, outdated kitchen and its gonna cost me 2500 a month. Its ridiculous!!! That's 800 more for a crappier apartment. It was so crappy apartment hunting but I went with the most affordable 2 bedroom for my little family. (My daughter, bf, cat, dog and I). Every nicer place was expecting us to make 3x the rent and 650 credit score. Smh. It was very hard to find anything decent. No wonder there's so much homelessness now. Its inhumane to charge that much. Smh it angers me.
2 years ago I was renting a whole ass house in GA for that amount lol. I am also pretty frugal and can’t imagine spending that much for a small space. LA is crazy 😵💫
I’m 14 and I’m planning on traveling to LA in 4 years but now I don’t know bc I don’t think I could live comfortably in there.. I mean $1k for literally a STUDIO with no washer is not very encouraging
the 2nd apt was way small I think someone who does traveling for work constantly needs to live in spaces like that because for mental health it wouldn't be good. people may see this comment and cry mental health don't realize it contributes to their mood swings and hostile personality.
I have a one bedroom apartment with a huge kitchen and basement with washer/dryer for $1,050 in very safe neighborhood in Philly. Feel sorry people have to pay this outrageous rent and why I'm staying put 😆
Moving out of Philly. I have a 2BR in a safe neighbor but this city is so boring and the weather is not good. I’d rather live in a 1BR in LA and live my best life.
heck nahhh, ADU's is not it. No smoking, no loud music(probably after 9PM), no large gathering etc...You can do a ADU for your first year in LA, but after that you better get yourself an actual studio/apartment
People have lost their entire minds charging over $1000 a month for A STUDIO WITH NO WASHER AND DRYER. insane.
In the valley !!!!
lmao bro you must've never been to la, you cant even get a studio with washer and dyer for under 2k in most parts of la
I agree with you. If I have to pay an arm and leg, I at least want all of the basic amenities.
You guys think that’s bad I live in a suburb with 30,000 people and the studio rent here is just as bad or worse
