This was insanely satisfying to watch. I literally watched every second of this video. I’ve been playing guitar for about 36 years and I have even restored a couple but not quite to this level. I replaced hardware and plates etc but most of my handwork went into the wood. Very nice work and a great guitar to restore.
One of my favorite BC Rich shapes! Love the wood, and shapes of these guitars from this era. Beautiful restoration, and the oil refinishing. In the end, I don’t love the neck shape/profile, or the electronics, but I used to drool over these bad boys (especially the Mockingbird) when I wore a younger man’s clothes.
I'm speechless. The care , the love of a gift I see. I use to clean my machines as such. Thank you for the joyful memories of being a boy in love with a gift and care of anything / anyone in our lives. Renewed my outlook and insight and inspiration. I own a BC Rich Mockingbird and will never change a thing . Thank you again. #Richlove # soulsmile
I’m a big fan of your work, Andy. There is so much love, patience, detail, creativity and craftsmanship in your work, simply amazing. Very enjoyable to watch, especially for those of us who like to take old guitars apart and restore them. I also love the way you use simple tools and keep all the original parts making them as good as new. This BC Rich is a beautiful instrument. Must sound amazing with those vintage Di Marzio super distortion humbuckers. That guitar must be worth a decent amount of money. The 1978 Di Marzio pickups alone must be worth several hundreds of dollars.
What a class act. Every time I get down on RUclips, a person like Andy Bass & Guitar comes along and totally redeems it. I love your videos, man. You are an inspiration. Thank you for providing all this catharsis.
There's something extremely satisfying watching this at close up and with such sensitive audio. You can hear and see everything so clearly. That Badass bridge is the best bridge ever made. That original restored would fetch big $$$ on Reverb...
Absolutely stellar work, man. As someone who works on guitars constantly here in NYC, I appreciate your world. Also, a very fine choice of guitar worthy of a such a restoration. Cheers.
I love how you turn the screws backwards first, so they line up with the original threads. To those that don't know, that's why he did that. It works with about any type of screw. Put screw in, turn backwards till you feel it slip into the original threads, then screw it to it
I don't know what is it about this but i found it so enjoyable. Watched trough it without blinking. As a guitar player and lover of all things guitar related, this was just awesome to witness. Learned some things too. Bringing this old bird to its former glory is so....sooo cool. Thank you sir.😊👍
This is probably as close as I'll ever get to an original mockingbird standard - so thank you very much! BC Rich obviously had a good deal going on Hawiian koa (Acacia koa) back in the day, as today koa would cost too much for a production model.
I really hope to meet you one day. We become friends of the love of guitar repair and the like. Then you take my 98 Gibson standard. And shellac. A teal absinthe green top. And that nice natural mahogany back and neck. As well all the other fascinating things you do. That shows your true car for the instrument. And what it means to others. Just beautiful work and patience. You time and detail do not go unnoticed my Friday. Just master class craftsmanship. Thank you for these videos so much. May you and your family be blessed for the coming new year.
I remember these as a teenager. there was no internet we had catalogs, one was "Music Emporium". I think these and the Rich Bitch were $1200 back then, an unattainable fortune for a new guitar as a kid, in our gangs case anyway..what memories. I had a black Greco LP. what a workhorse, I rotted the hardware out with sweat.
2nd SIDE NOTE videos like this feels as if we get to make love to the instrument with much more than just music cannot explained but is very immersive and detailed and when you feel true legit love for your Guitar you ll know what i getting at.. also your silence makes it much more personal XD 🦊
What a cool guitar glad to see one of the old war birds getting the love she deserves. The Mockingbird is such a wacky shape and as a design it's actually aged well!
I gotta say Andy this is some of the finest restoration work I've seen yet on guitars! You take pride in your work if you could call it that I'm sure to you it is a relaxing and ferfilling job to you!!!! Outstanding!! It looks like the guitars when their finish look better than when they came from the factory or the luthier that uilt them!!!! Great work brother, and happy holidays to you and yours!!!!
My only problem with this (and it's all personal preference) is I would have used a brass nut. But I found this video very relaxing and satisfying to watch.
True craftsmanship. I love this shit. Fucking amazing. Keep it up!! I have learned a LOT from these videos. Thank you for sharing these secrets. Some luthiers would be mad about someoine showing all these tricks
Next, watch the Fender Stratocaster Refinish.

You sir....are the man!
The removal of the old nitro finish with the chisel was probably one of the most satisfying things I've ever watched...
If you liked that, check this out. The coolest thing I have seen peeled off...

Here here too
Beautiful work! I have a 1978-79 Mockingbird that is exactly the opposite color scheme. Love these old American made guitars!

Fantastic videos.
No crappy blues twanging in the background.
No quacking American diatribe at the beginning.
Just talent. Very watchable.
so satisfying to see that wood breathe again with the oil finish. amazing work, as always
Loved the filming. And love Mockingbirds

incredible work and awesome video! the mockingbird with a hand-rubbed oil finish looks stunning. much better than the gloss finish IMO
😱 I have the same guitar exactly !!
Wow, that is gorgeous! Great job!

Those sticks you use to fill tread holes are quite a something. Hoping to find some of those in my place.
I definitely would want this guy to work on all of my guitars. He is the simply the BEST. You remind me of the late Ed Roman (meticulous workmanship).

Andy bass and guitar
Wow....amazing andy, first time i saw ur channel, great!
Thank you!
A wonderful job for a wonderful guitar. Congrats ;)
Thank you!
Hat's off to your tenacity! Confused over such detailed restoration of the original Top Hat knobs only to find black domes in their place?!
Beautiful Job, I got the same guitar but mine is 1983.
Beautiful Guitar man I've never seen this in such depth ;)
What a cool guitar glad to see one of the old war birds getting the love she deserves. The Mockingbird is such a wacky shape and as a design it's actually aged well!
What an amazing job you did, great video.
Thank you!

The mockingbird shape always reminds me of Hide from X Japan.
You are X!
We are X!
Rest in peace Hide-sama.
Beautiful
Very good !
My only problem with this (and it's all personal preference) is I would have used a brass nut. But I found this video very relaxing and satisfying to watch.
I got a few of those old dimarzio distortion and paf. They are the best sounding pups ive ever heard
Thank you!
Yep, I had some back in the 80's, I did a lot of reading before I bought them. They were awesome. Didnt measure the ohms but sounded great !
Beautiful, Pat yourself on the back! ... Also love those pants
Thank you.
True craftsmanship. I love this shit. Fucking amazing. Keep it up!! I have learned a LOT from these videos. Thank you for sharing these secrets. Some luthiers would be mad about someoine showing all these tricks
That Bird should really be mine 😉
