Suggestion: have it so a given number of specs can have the phone and start/stop it as many times as they want until they get a number they like and secretly memorize it. They hand it to next spec and so on. Then you decide to let one more person do it and randomly point to an audience member and just have them say stop. You stop it and without looking hand the phone to them or show so they can see. You have them all give their numbers one at a time as you add them up and it matches the prediction. To do it, only numbers with a 3-4 second wait between start/stop buttons are recognized as part of the force. Since the numbers change, whatever is remaining is the amount that will always show on the last spec. Since you are doing the stopping, that won't matter.
To be honest, I thought it was an issue too but in reality; unless you’re in a nuclear bunker it really doesn’t matter. I’m not a coder but it seems like it only uses an internet connection to briefly check that you have a license code. So it’s more of split second quick check and then you’re all set. 🙂
