    The level of detail and Korean traditional references in this MV is overdose. Even the ending scene's lighting is placed RED/BLUE like the Korean flag, with the white clothes. The song is LIT, MV is LIT.

    Thank you, David, this was my favorite of the Explained series! Here are more fun facts that connect this MV to Korean culture and the history of ONEUS:
    1- Their fandom is named To Moon - It represents the fans as the "moon" who always orbit ONEUS, represented by "Earth" as you said yourself. It gives even more depth to the initial part "today's moon looks good" (오늘 달이 좋구나), since, besides all the meanings of the moon that you explained, it also represents their fans.
    2- The real names of the members are the same names of ancient Korean kings or historical characters (like the poet 동주) so before they were named ONEUS, their CEO thought about calling the group "Kings King" (I think he said "왕 왕" but I can be mistaken - you can see Hwanwoong talking about it in the Weekly Idol episode 412 they participated along with ATEEZ). So you can say that the members dressed as kings/nobles and sitting on the throne - especially on the final scene of the MV - are like an inside joke. xD

    • @wiktoriaj4329
      @wiktoriaj4329 5 лет назад +112

      And it's not just that either! Leedo's stage name comes from King Sejong of the Joseon dynasty, which is why he's the one who's seen sitting on the throne at the end! As for Ravn, his real name, Youngjo is practically the same as that of another Joseon dynasty king, King Yeongjo! ^^ Which can also be why he's the second one to be seen wearing the most royal-looking clothing ^^

    Thank you for mentioning the BTS thing. I'm an ARMY and BTS will forever be my #1 group, but I was really disappointed when I saw so many people accusing ONEUS of copying "Idol." The idea of "copying" traditional elements of one's own culture is just ridiculous to me. First of all, nobody owns a country's culture. Second, a bunch of other groups did similar things in the past. And third, I find it highly admirable that so many idols incorporate traditional elements into pop music. It's a beautiful celebration of their roots, like I'll never shut up about how amazing it is and how happy it makes me, because I know how excited I get when pop singers from *MY* country include traditional elements into their music. It's just beautiful and deserves all the hype. Much love to ONEUS for doing this, I've been really excited about their music ever since debut and they have yet to disappoint me. All of their songs so far are amazing, I highly recommend listening to their mini-albums if you haven't yet!! :)

    Wow. I'm just fascinated. I really like it when a song: the lyrics, the instruments, altogether with the MV has such a deep, meaningful, not 'in your face' story behind it. I'm not ONEUS fan, but since the first listen I already liked this song. Now I know the meaning behind it, 'Lit' has become one of my fav K-Pop song.
    Also, I hope other fandoms don't start a war and accuse them with plagiarism. As you said, Korean traditional sounds are not owned by any artists. Actually, any type of sounds/music style.
    What matters are how these artists/musicians incorporate these sounds and create their own musics. Although you might find the song a bit similar with the other song, doesn't mean one is copying the other.
    Let's just say, they share the same concept.

    I literally watched this last night and that's why (title was changed XD) I couldn't search it until I go to your channel... again 'THANK U' for featuring ONEUS - LIT(my newest addiction)... I believe that this song deserves to be listened by more people and this will be a great opportunity for them to be recognized cause they basically make great music as a rookie group... not to mention that the message and mv behind this song is deep and very meaningful to the korean culture & history so I can say that this is a helpful educational vid for us-- foreigners...

    Thank you for the explanation, I love your way to dissect the references, and you also do a good research on the groups, even the ones you don't stan, thats why the quality of your videos are always top notch❤️
    Also, about the moon, they are also referring to the fandom, To Moon, but in korean they often call us 달님 or 달님들 so yeah they are pretty much talking about us as well 😆

    This is soo interesting and educating! Integrating traditional culture into contemporary music results in a refreshing piece. It's like experiencing part of Korea without being there. It gets attention! I could watch this MV over and over. ONEUS has created art! BTS did something like this in a few of their pieces, too. I hope creations like this continue on.
