Lovely guitar. The only good thing with this Gibson lawsuit thing is that more and more people are discovering how great Dean guitars is. I own two Deans (a Dave Mustaine V and a RC-6) and they are some of my favourite guitars ever.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the Dean headstock, but I think it has a beautiful symmetry on the V design. It’s like a miniature backwards version of the guitar body. I’m a big Flying V fan so to me this would be my choice for a Dean. Glad you enjoy it.
It's been pointed out to me that it's a TB-5 Custom and not a JB in the bridge position, and an Alnico Pro II in the neck. Sounds fantastic, I'm a moron and can't read a spec sheet properly!
@@LeonTodd Sup Todd!! Hey i need some good advice from you I can't decide which to buy, Dean V Stealth , Dean V Select or a Jackson Pro Series King V KVT Electric Guitar Snow White, Off course i wanna it for rock and metal, Focusing on pickups and quality what would you buy?
i can't even hardly get one here. waiting time for the 7 string v is 6 month or more. most dealers even have deans anymore. could get an eric peterson old skull v used, but its 6 string...
I'm surprised how good that sounds. Especially the clean tones, which I wasn't expecting. I'd love one of these with the same specs, except with a floyd :D
Fully agree about the ergonomics when playing standing. My Dean '79 V is the most ergonomic guitar I have for playing with a strap. A close second is my Gibson SG Standard. The front strap button placement (behind the neck, on the heel) seems to be the biggest contributing factor.
I recently purchased a Dean Select ML 7 string. I was amazed about the quality of the build. I upgraded the pots, caps, and input jack. I took advantage of the 4 conductor wiring and had push/pull pots installed so I can do series/parallel which sounds really good on the low B.
Back 35 years ago, I had several USA Dean guitars and they were amazing!! With the technology and CNC Machining we have today it is not difficult to produce a Quality Product worthy of being played by Professional. There comes a point where a basic standard of quality supersedes a Moniker that says Made in USA on a Dean, Gibson, Fender, Charvel/Jackson guitar. Indonesia and Mexico are Cranking out some really nice AFFORDABLE Guitars!!
@MT-Guitars All I am saying is the quality of less costly guitars has improved greatly since I started playing over 40 years ago. Not all of them are great. Seeing Leon's Video simply reminded me of the time in my life when I owned several USA made Dean Guitars. BTW Leon's You Make a Lot of Great Videos!
After the Gibson lawsuit and the discontinuation of the Dean V models, this thing is gonna go up in value like crazy in the next years. It's a shame because these V's are great guitars, Michael Schenker plays them or Miyako from Lovebites ( all-female Japanese Speed/Power-Metal band) and they both sound killer live. Unfortunately, the now former CEO of Dean screwed up big time and pretty much run the company to the ground. First the whole desaster with Dimebag's girlfriend, pretty much all big name endorsed artists left and he's also accused of embezzeling company founds, in order to buy sports cars and what not.
Specs say it's Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom in the bridge... For me it's better option then JB - wider tone and more gain. Very nice guitar btw, thank for review.

Dean Guitars is known for making Gibson Copies that are actually better made in that they have Sealed Geared Tuners for optimal Tuning stability, & are really well balanced. The Dean Gransport Double Neck 12/6 is basically an EDS-1275 (Double Neck 12/6 SG) Knockoff that's better balanced. The Headstocks on both necks are shaped slightly differently to better distinguish it.
I’ve got the same guitar in red with the Kahler trem. I switched out to the Fishman Fluence Moderns and the rechargeable battery pack and man she’s a BEAST! I’ve always loved the v style neck on Deans! So damn comfy!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ve owned a 2007 Dean ML Dime O Flage for 6 years now and I’ve played so many shows with it. I’ve dropped it, thrown it on accident, sweat/bled all over it, I’ve literally beat the hell out of it and it’s such a beast of a Guitar and years later it still hold up and plays like brand new. Throughout the years I’ve only had to make very minor adjustments to the setup even after all the abuse I’ve put on it and also being that it’s a 12 year old Guitar that’s been played almost daily. Dean Guitars make such great quality instruments and that’s why they are one of my go to Company’s.
Leon...dude,that's a serious sounding and looking Dean V. Fierce sounding when you were playing both bridge and neck pickups as well as combined. Love the silkiness of the neck pickup when overdriven. Some Schenker tones for sure.
I have a Dean V Stealth with the EMGs that I absolutely adore! The first & only guitar I’ve owned with active pickups. In some ways I’d prefer a select, only because I’ve gotten so used to playing with passive pickups. I know what you mean about the headstock angle! I bought a String Butler, & it works great. Already has a lot of “neck dive”, though. 😂 I like your idea of getting a new nut cut, with proper angles!
Leon, unfortunately when (any) guitars are setup from the factory, they're generally setup to common specs (light gauge strings either 9-42 or 10-46, generic action etc). Going up or down string gauges is generally a players preference and depending on how far up you go depends to whether the saddles and nut need wider/narrower slots. If the slots are too tight, you get string binding. If they're too loose, you get string buzz. So the slots are dependent on what string gauge you prefer. Although with you going up a couple of gauges, they shouldn't have had to change the nut as you can widen the slots. Maybe there was a plastic nut on it and they've changed it to bone? I like the SD59's too and the SD JB is one I've wanted to try for a while (sounds good).
Excellent playing and review. I am most concerned about the V profile. I have mainly played C profile over the years. Is it a "soft" or "hard" V profile? Thank you. I'm a lefty so I can't just go downtown and pick one of these up myself before buying.
More like a Viking Pitchfork.🤣 The Dean V is a triple duty Axe that you can layout your garden planting rows and pitch hay with, and then when trespassers come to raid your crops you can use it to Splay them open and of course after a long hard day of working the fields and slaying Pillagers you can shred the night away.

Maybe you will get lucky, but I have had spotty results with Les Paul's that have the nut slots angled. On all of my 3+3 guitars I have installed the String Butler - I am telling you Leon, this little device works. The only negative is, yeah it isnt traditional looking but you get straight pull through the nut slots. You'd have to have another nut done, but it will end any tuning frustrations you may have as long as the nut is cut well. Swap out the tuners for locking ones and it's almost as stable as a Floyd locking nut.
I heard that the headstock plays a part in how the guitar sounds. This is why Dean Z. himself had designed some of them this way. That's only what I've heard. This could be wrong.

Whats up guys? Nice video man! Im really intressed in the ml version. Since this is a korea or indonesia made guitar im a little concered about the qualitiy in genereal and especially the quality of the floyd rose. Does someone have experience with this guitar and can give me some honest insights?
Keep rocking!
I don’t think any Dean is made in Korea any longer. That’s too bad. I try to stay clear from products made in China especially guitars.
this video came out probably because of a sickass Dean Z that Gear Gods just checked out
Personally Im pretty over the 59 neck pup. The Dimarzio D Activator X neck is a great match for the JB.
try one of those SD screamin Demons in the neck.... it is like a Hotter 59
@@kevinfeatherstone6062 Hey, I had one yeeaaarrs ago in the bridge of an epiphone LP nice pickup from what i remember

@MT-Guitars Hey MT guitars. Yea I know he's a busy fellow. I was just super curious to see it. It seemed to me that he's liking the setup. Cheers
You are a guitar god
Where'd they hide the third pickup?
Dean has stepped the fuck up huh?
You see I hate hearing how awesome an upgrade guitars I really like the look of would be compared to the guitar I have right now... I hate it because I’m saving for college and I have a lot of money coming in right now
cool guitar
I dont always play Dean. But I do... When its free💀👍
As insanely nice as these look - why wasnt there a 24 fret, 25.5 inch scale version?
Dave M has you fam
That guitar is sex with strings😍

So so nice ?
I personally prefer A5 wagyu Dean
Bro what is the name of that tune?
That's "Rust" - Ragdoll
@@LeonTodd have to check that out now
My one thing is...why can’t this be the guitar you take down to local jazz night ? You just said it can play everything because of the pickups ....if you’re a metal head that plays jazz I would say play this guitar any and everywhere
I want one so bad I can't stand it.hurts to watch this vid
