What an intense battle! And one between team mates! I guess this event might well count as Baum's biggest success in his career. He should be proud of it! Although he was playing it down after the event, like "no one will remember it if it didn't result in a medal". I wish he could be more positive about this. I feel extra sympathy for him as he is not a guy who is easy to feel sympathy for.

0:31 Incredible athletism! Not only does Patrick Baum demonstrate great reflex and focus in handling an “edge ball,” but also he is able to return it at an angle to the total detriment of Ovtcharov. Throughout the match, he is so pumped up that his beating Ovtcharov (Germany’s best hope to replace Timo Boll) is the only possible outcome.
What a match to watch!

Keep in mind this is video of highlights. What is wrong a player celebrating a good point? We can only judge him when we see the whole match to see if he is truly obnoxious.

baum hat gewonnen, weil er mental besser drauf war und nicht versucht hat wie die chinesen zu spielen. weniger athletik..aber mehr hirn. für mich war sein bester schlag der tischnahe blockball mit der RH, so hatte dima wenig zeit zu agieren!

I like him. However i don't like Dimtrij. What kind of an athlete tries to ruin his opponents game, by making a sound right when they are about to hit the ball.
