    When drifting for red grouper or Mutton, do you still use the egg sinkers with a short leader, or switch to a bank sinkers with a much longer leader?

  • @albertwanner2764

    Also, would fishing with a 3way rig with a lo g leader like 30' be acceptable on a headboat?

    Are we talking brining fresh caught sardines or can it be frozen boxes of sardines?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing 3 месяца назад

      Both work. A live sardine on the bottom is deadly, but they eat frozen very well too.

    Great video. Would you use the double snell just when you are using long squid? If not what other baits? It would help if you had a video on how to hook bait up close.especially shrimp too. That would help a great deal with presentation. If you have videos please provide the links. Thank you !

      Head First Fishing Thanks that would be Super helpful. Another Q: how do I determine what time of line is best for what fish (braided ect)?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing 6 лет назад +1

      D C.G. It depends on what species, size equipment , and situation. For dedicated bottom fishing or on large capacity big game reels, many people use just mono nylon. For multipurpose setups, many people use braid. Braid is thinner for the equivalent break strength, allowing extra line capacity. It also seems to be more sensitive and has no stretch. You nearly always will use a leader when using braid. Most people use braid for added strength and increased line capacity. The thinner diameter is a risk though when it comes to abrasion resistance.

    Is 60lb fluorocarbon leader to 65lb braid enough for grouper fishing?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing 6 лет назад +1

      David Centeno Yes but we recommend going up to 80 lb leader. Regular mono works just fine too.

    I want to set up a rod for a party boat trip off Bradenton area. Mono or braid? Seems these boats use mono. What test line? How big a reel for a party boat setup? Great videos and thanks Marty O.

      @@HeadFirstFishing what lb test for mono? Hoping to get on some grouper. Was down in 2 weeks ago out of Palm Harbor and we caught a ton of grunts, an undersized out of season gag, and an undersized red grouper along with a triggerfish that had to go back. I would love to try an dial in on grouper, so any tips are welcome :) I will definitely book a head boat through you guys next time I am down that way. Love your channel and wealth of knowledge. Thanks again Marty O

    How do you find swiss cheese bottom? What does it look like on a bottom machine?

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing 7 лет назад +2

      +Adam Thompson Often it looks like a combination of hard bottom reads with a thick bottom line and broken bottom line. Some small irregular rises and falls.

    • @HeadFirstFishing
      @HeadFirstFishing 7 лет назад

      You have to have your sonar tuned properly in the first place to ever notice it. Most machines on standard settings won't pick it up. If you think you have found a possible area, send a whole bunch of free bait down and watch to see if fish start showing up on your sonar.

      @@HeadFirstFishing Thanks for your quick reply. The reels you show look like Daiwa Saltiga and Saltist 40's 2-speed. I just ordered a Penn Fathom 40 N 2-speed for fishing mutton snapper over rock and feather coral around 60-90 ft deep. What rod and line weight would you recommend?

    • @HeadFirstFishing

      7 ft medium heavy on 50 lb mono should be perfect for muttons.
