- What an ABSOLUTE beauty of a pond!
Jumbo Koi, RO re-cycling system, Profi Drum, HUGE Bakki shower, a tonne of K1 and of course heat!
I've known Andy for quite a few years, and in fact he got me into joining a Koi Club after a chance meeting about a liner 8 or 9 years ago! What Andy doesn't know about water isn't worth knowing! Hence now starting his own business!
An amazing garden and pond owned by Andy Finch of Finch Filtration.
The pond water is ridiculously clear and clean! The water is not only filtered by a drum filter but also an RO membrane which filters the pond water even more and allows Andy to use less source tap water,, this is also passes through an RO system.
Approx 30 fish some of which are true Jumbo size get the luxury of living in the magnificent place!

3000 gallons, Block built, box weld liner, aerated bottom drain, QK22 drum filter, QK midi shower with 30kg of Midori Infrared Bacteria Home media and 10kg Lotus root Bacteria home media, 3ft votex with 100ltr K1 micro. Aqua Forte Vario pump at 99watts (variable power output) over shower, superfish eco 3000 on K1 vortex.

Excellent video again Mr Daily and Andys pond and koi are looking awesome as usual, was there the day he fitted that profi drum to collect the Mukashi and its nice to see he's still got his, both were similar size at last years National so it's always good to see his 😉... Those Adam Byer kohaku look great too... In the next couple of years think I'm going to do a grow on project of only Adams kohaku in our grow on pond with maybe half a dozen and see what happens 😉

Fantastic 👏 im so glad you filmed it im sure it was a given anyway but im glad i kept poking you to do it 👍🏼 there is so much to learn about water but many of us just think ahh it's alright just spend a little extra on the fish and it will be fine 🙄 but in reality the key is water.
You had the same choices at adam byer for koi and just look at that result 👏 it proves you dont really need to spend silly money to get quality.
I've just bought a new ph, tds monitor as I'm tired of the guessing game with the dropper test kits so we will see what happens.
My tds from tap is 80ppm so I'm already using RO but my kh is less than 1dkh so i keep it buffered to 2dkh.
Im looking forward to seeing what you end up with from Andy Finch and hopefully you can show the viewers the difference in your water from now until then.

Yeah been on the cards for a long time just when Andy had a "Job" shift patterns didnt help, along with my work and cycling, then when he started thinking about starting a business there was no chance! But got there in the end! Ive talked for years with Andy about going RO, obviously as i have the means to do it here what with RO water needed for my work, but just thought it would add more woes and possibly worries. No RO yet, but maybe in the future! And agree the Byer fish represent amazing value and the quality is spot on!
@@koidiaries oh and I nearly forgot to say, previously the video with Stuart you could see something was up with him as he was distracted and obviously now we know why seeing as he has closed down his pond 😳😲
@@Tom_Prendiville yeah, but as far as I knew he wasn't at that point, I even asked him outright, shame, he'll hopefully be still seen at QK occasionally:-)

What a fantastic pond and filter room he sounds as if he knows is stuff with RO, I've always used RO on my reef tank 15years + and recently thought about it on my 25 year old + indoor koi pond but are water is not to bad Cheshire/ Manchester also excellent video

Can I ask Andy Finch is it really worth having RO in a soft water area ie Scotland ? Also our water isn’t metered so no need to recycle , the upside to all the rain we get
Hi if your in a soft water area there would not be any real benefit of using RO other than having a high PH. If you were to run RO then that would then probably mean you would have to buffer your pond water with Bicarb. I always say to everyone if your happy with what you have why change it?
Andrew Finch thank you for your reply Andy , I’ve read that soft water is slightly higher in sodium though , is this detrimental to fish ?
Wow 200 tds out of your tap, mines near the pond owners at 450 in earley, near wokingham. That's why when detailing my cars I use a di vessel with high quality resin to rinse the cars.

Great pond and amazing clarity. Amazed at the tap GH, thought mine was ridiculous at 18dH. But all I really wanted to know was why he has 3 bottom drains in his filter room, but you didn't ask 🤔.
Lol well I know as I've seen the previous pond! This pond is a rebuild of an old pond made up of block built filters fed from I think these drains 😁

Ive toyed with it for years due to having RO water for window cleaning but decided its too much faff as just busy! But never say never possibly next year ;-) We'll see
Hi I love your pond its really clean I got a simple pond I got 3 filter boxs one home made with a home made air pipe in bottom a tap to drain muck out I got alfarog in my filter boxs 2 boxs am eco 9000 2 8000 hose lock pumps in the pond every 2 wks i run clean filterd water in old water runs out over flow but kh and pH bit out i have 2 lily's in my pond should I take them out

Good video again Andy. I still can’t get my head around the economics of a RO system. It seems to me even with recycling the pond water, it will still use around 1000 gallons a week tap water. I am on a water meter and that will cost a fortune. As it stands I change around 250 gallon a week on a 3500/4000 gallon pond. I am sure I must of misunderstood something but the figures I heard in the video seem high.
The RO is only on to replace the water lost by the RO which recycles pond water and it isnt on 24/7. I think he said its on every 2 hours, so 12 times a day and fresh water through the RO will be 36ltrs to replace the RO recyle waste, so 432ltrs per day or 3025ltrs per week so about 650 gallons a week. But as you say if you want to run RO and youre on a water meter it will cost way more, if youre just topping up via a normal purifier the cost will obviously be less. I suppose RO recyle is aimed more at people who RO anyway. If that makes any sense goodluck with it, its early lol
Hi with running the recycling RO I am only replacing the waste. So as it’s running I am using 0.65 litres per minute x 60 for the hour =39 litres x 12 hours for the day =468 litres per day x 7 =3276 litres per week or 720 gallons per week. The actual amount of water being changed by recycling the pond water through the RO is a massive 25,200 litres of RO water + 3276 litres of purified tap water. So total water change of 28,476 litres or 6,263 gallons per week with only using 720 gallons.
Andrew Finch. Thanks for the response. I’ve watched the videos Rasta has made with his RO system and the video of his conversation with Raad. I get the concept of RO, it’s just the running cost that’s putting me off. Is it possible to get the tap water use down to around 250 gallon a week on a 3500/4000 gallon pond, or is it just not possible

LOL There is a pump which pushes pond water through a 5 micron pre filter then a 40" RO membrane to strip the water of everything! the waste water that the RO produces is replaced by the other RO unit. Clever stuff! Right up your street this stuff!!
@@koidiaries Certainly need to do some homework, especially if it's a cost effective system on a relatively small pond, on a meter and when it pays for itself. No doubt a cracking system.

I don't understand why you heat the pond water in the UK when your winter is so mild? You need to allow koi to stop eating and go though a winter cycle so they stay healthy and then won't get sick. I should do a dwinter ocumentary on koi for all you UK people. I have never had a sick or dead koi in all my 30 years of wintering them in Canada. Also my pond water is always crystal clear and never needed UV light thanks to my pond marsh.
All fat and over weight. What better way to shorten the life of your prize fish.
