    Aww, that was a different tone of story than I've read lately--a real treat. Thank you for the performance, Maestra! 👏🏼🎉

    A beautiful story read with passion. I've never read it. Eudora Welty was a complicated writer for sure. Aloha

    Well, this was like catnip. Thank you! Did you see the recent Welty discussion at Politics and Prose on Zoom?

      Yes I did! What a great discussion. I am planning to read One Writer's Beginnings again very soon--after in a great many years. I especially loved hearing her niece talking about her on the presentation.

    In my english book of literature, on page 466 in the 3rd paragraph down it says "the *track* went into the road but you read it as cypress tree?

    • @HannahsBooks
      @HannahsBooks  7 месяцев назад +1

      When it was published in The Atlantic in 1941, “cypress trees” was the wording, but it is definitely “track” in The Collected Stories. Good catch!

    One of my absolute favorite Southern writers. Thank you for giving her some current recognition.

      Welty is one of my very favorites, too. What a wonderful writer! I am about to pick up the new edition of her One Writer's Beginnings, which I have not read in many years.

      @@HannahsBooks I know you probably know this but she lived through the 1918 pandemic, World war 1 and 2 and the Vietnam wars. Incredible life and perspective.

    Hello again, I just read Why I live at the PO, by Eudora Welty and although I know she lwas a Southern writer, it reminded me of my childhood in a Brooklyn New York project. Some of the expressions were similar to the ones I heard during that time. Story was very colorful and full of a chaotic family of which I grew up in. I know you're from the South, and I was wondering if you read it? Aloha Maya

      Yes indeed! It is one of my all-time favorite stories. I'll go look up a link to my reading of the story. One moment...
