Snoop came out the gate hot heavily featured on the chronic and then dropped Doggystyle and murder was the case and featured on Dogg Food Had a time where he dominated. In 1996 once Tha DoggFather it went downhill completely after that and he never matched that same peak he had.
2pac didn’t come out the hottest but he got better and better every album. Lyrically he got better, Songwriting he got better, Performance got better from 1991 to 1995 even had a 1 number album in the country while in prison which he couldn’t promote or do a tour for and still went multi platinum. In October 1995 from the Sept 1996 it became a 2pac show he was the most anticipated and most watched rapper up until his demise.
Snoop's blown up like 3 or 4 times. He had the deathrow era, the Chronic 2001/Top Dogg/Up in Smoke era, The R&G era, the Blue Carpet era, and so on.
Snoop got plenty of songs lyrically better than doggystyle since then. You just gotta listen to his albums and not only the lead singles. If you include mixtapes and soundtracks, hes put out like 60 albums
The character of snoop doggy dog/ snoop dogg became bigger then the talent of Calvin aka Snoop Dogg. I don’t think he’s underrated as an MC, he has his own lane. We know snoop is super dope.
Based on the comments around here, id say hes pretty underrated as an mc. People seem to only know a few singles and seem to have no idea about his 30+ year freestyle career

@@youngcity4241 DOC helped snoop write better by shortening his raps into 8 bar/16 bar verses. Think about Nuthin but a G Thang. Snoop wrote that in jail and Dre recorded his verses over a collect call

I would have to agree to disagree with Glasses Malone on Kanye. There are plenty of artists who are hip hop staples that grew up working to middle class backgrounds. And they're not hip hop? So kick out Common, Talib Kweli, Black Thought, J Cole, Wale, etc.?

Yes Doggystyle is the greatest hiphop album of all time. After doggy style snoop became a C level MC. He’s not the most influential hiphop hiphop artist.
I won’t give him credit for THE CHRONIC because THE DOC wrote the chronic including some of snoops rhymes
The Doc helped Snoop write his rhymes more concisely. He didnt write for him! Snoop wrote all his own rhymes and much of Dre's. What have u actually heard after Doggystyle?
