Rachel Riley: 'Corbyn is fostering an environment that’s really hostile to Jews' |British GQ
just because she does math in her head quickly does not mean she has wisdom about international politics.
Indeed. Lost a bit of respect for her to be honest - she’s painfully out of her depth speaking on these issues, and rather confused about her political position. And expressing a critical view of Israel on a political level does not constitute anti-semitism.
No but she has a right to her opinions and I respect her for that
And what qualifies you to give your opinion about International Politics? Going by your statement nobody but politicians and political academia should be able to comment about Politics!
She clearly has no idea what she is talking about...it”s pretty embarrassing actually
I gave her the benefit of the doubt. But 20 mins in, she's really struggling, her body language actually looks like she's making stuff up on the spot.
@@1992AJL alright derren brown, what makes you say that? sounds to me like you've just pulled that out your arse

Most men couldn't vote either because you had to own land prior to ww1 so basically you had to be upper class
Some rich women voted in the 19th century while most men could not vote.
I genuinely don't mean to be rude or disrespectful to her, but I don't think she's terribly bright, or certainly on this subject has totally failed to understand the nuance. Yes, there may be an issue of anti-semitism on the extreme fringes of the Labour party, but why she has become a spokesperson on this matter is unfathomable. Very odd choice of interviewee. Her answers are barely coherent and her lack of knowledge is startling. Anyways, on with your days...
She herself said she's not someone who has paid much attention to politics. She is not a politician and she's not promoting one ideology or another. She is just a random person who saw something wrong and decided to use her platform to talk about it. Campbell kept pushing the interview to make it about her political views, but I really think she's just someone trying to do the right thing.
Of course, you can disagree with what she's saying, but I she *_is_* terribly bright. Just not familiar with this specific field.
A great rugby player who just started playing basketball and hasn't quite mastered it is not "bad at sports." If she was criticizing anyone other than Corbyn, people wouldn't be expecting her to be an expert.
Oh well.
She's a public figure, is smart and people assume that we need her view on politics. I really like her, but no, I'm not watching this for her political views
She’s a Maths Oxbridge Graduate she’s a lot brighter than you 😂
She's only bright in a robotic way, not in an organic human way.

Yup. Tory propaganda effectively misinforms the easily led. It's disappointing to see from Rachel, I'm glad though that most of the people commenting here see through it.
I reckon I could tell you what Riley’s opinion is on any subject after getting halfway through this video. It will will mirror anything a so called centrists politician or mainstream newspaper might say
they come off the production line like Simon Cowells boy/girl bands
Just read the Huffington Post
Well, she herself said she considers herself "middle"; neither left-wing nor right-wing. So what's your point, mate? 😆
I know that, to Corbynists, "centrist" is a bad word, but she is not trying to get your vote. She is not a politician and she's not promoting one ideology or another. She is just a random person who saw something wrong and decided to use her platform to talk about it. People just want to talk about her political opinions because they think that will somehow invalidate what she is saying. If she was criticizing Theresa May, there wouldn't be as much nitpicking and name-calling.

Listen the tories have had more female prime ministers than the labour party. The tories are much better in economic policy. Child poverty at an all time high? Give us a break, we're much better off than in the 20th century.

Nothing wrong with opposing Israel, it is the culture of antisemitism that is now rampant in Labour and that is tolerated in the party.
"It’s antisemitism driving the obsession with Israel and the Palestinian cause happens to help that… because he doesn’t seem to help the Palestinian cause or care about it when it’s in Syria or other Middle Eastern Countries…"

Rachel has since been awarded an MBE for “services to Holocaust education and fighting antisemitism”. However, she also admits she now has to go out and earn it.
I feel quite ambivalent towards her today. I regarded her well in her early years though.
However, in recent times, I’ve come to realise she hasn’t done much to deserve the opportunities and accolades that have come her way. Countdown being a chance thing through to her MBE award today.
And her expressed views appear more rooted in instinct rather than a balance of the latter and being thought through in advance.
I believe Rachel is a kind and intelligent person, with good intentions, but for someone in the public eye, who wants to remain in it and contribute to the public debate, I think she needs to put in the hard yards, be much better prepared and thick skinned.
Why the f**k am I watching this car crash... ?

@TheTruthWillOut She's culturally Jewish (as in her family tree is Jewish), but she doesn't believe in God, so she's not Jewish in a religious sense. She still has a right to be angry at, and fearful of, antisemitism though
Rachel Riley comes across as either very confused or ignorant person. Judaism is just a religion not a race, a people or an ethnicity. If she claims she is an atheist she can't be Jewish at the same time. Can you be an atheist and Christian? can you be an atheist and a Muslim obviously not?
@Gypsyscotty9 No it's not interchangeable, watch this clip, Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro explains this clearly
ruclips.net/video/sFyIMNq-nlk/видео.html
Sorry but you are totally wrong! A person can be an Atheist and still be Jewish, just as they can be a Catholic and be Jewish. I was born into a Jewish family but I changed my religion and am now a Catholic but I am still Jewish by culture. My Father, like Rachel was an atheist and was Jewish. Being Jewish is a religion as well as a culture, whereas being a Christian is just a religion. Two totally different things. But, Rachel as well as many other Jewish people cannot comprehend what it actually means to be anti-Semitic. Anti-Semitism is a hatred of Jewish people. Hating Israel is NOT being anti-Semitic, the hatred is not towards a person, but a country. Jeremy Corbyn DOES NOT hate Jewish people, he hated Israel, as did my Dad. That did not make him my Dad an anti-Semitic person OR a self-hating Jew! He loved all his Jewish family and liked all Jewish people but hated Israel.

Genuinely think this is the worst interview Campbell has conducted. Campbell seems to be attempting to push the interview in a certain direction, but Rachel’s lack of understanding of the issue at hand simply makes her answers generic and simple. And btw I’m sorry, but criticism of any nation/state does not entail that you are some how prejudice towards the religion that state attempts to represent - and I say that as a proud conservative.
It does when you single out Israel and only Israel while supporting worse human rights abusers such as Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and Hamas and their ilk.
Because in many "criticisms of (this) state" you find same antisemitic patterns that have been in use in Europe since the dark ages. You just don't see them because you are not an antisemite. It's dog whistle stuff. Read some books on history of jews in Europe, it might open your eyes. We don't live in nice times and the good people fail to see it....again. And this time it's mostly comming from the left. (I am not a Jew and don't know any.....it's just my opinion/observation.)
I really agree. Her grasp is v weak.
s sw I’m sorry, but if you are going to suggest that anyone criticizing this state is an Antisemite then you have failed to tackle real Antisemitism. Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and many Human rights organisations have criticised both the Israeli government and Hamas. You can (and I believe should) criticise the Israeli government and Hamas. However, under the criteria outlined by Rachel, this is not possible, and a too generic definition of Antisemitism limits freedom of Speech and expression - that is the fact of the matter. And if you’re okay with that, then know that abuses from the Israeli government will become more fierce, and innocent people will continue to be killed. In 40/50 years time, I wish to look back at this, and know that I was on the right side of history - and so should you.
@@adsie79 It doesn't if what your addressing is Israel itself. All those others you mentioned are oppressive regimes organizations, when Israel behaves as they do, while arguing that it isn't an oppressive regime, it is very likely to draw criticism. Rightly so. Just as America is rightly criticized for Gitmo and treatment of immigrant and of Muslims and of people of color, while claiming to stand for freedom and democracy, Israel will be criticized for treating its Arab population or immigrants as Jew were treated in the past. His relationship with Islamist organisations Hezbollah and Hamas, anti-Semitic terrorist organisations that Corbyn called "friends” and have in their manifesto that their aim is the destruction of the state of Israel (the only jewish state in the world). He has also failed to object to antiesemetic banners and posters from London Quds Day rallies supported by the organisation ‘Stop the War Coalition’- Corbyn was national chair of this organisation from 2011-2015. Corbyn has the responsibility to condemn and take action on anti-semitism, which although he says a few words, he is not doing.
The fact that he has honoured the 1972 munich terrorist attack (11 members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and died), is evidence enough. "What is the secular basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money."
- Karl Marx, Zur Judenfrage, 1844
Nah he loves Hamas
nope interesting. Question is, how do Ashkenazi Jews, being more of European and Turkic descent than actually Semitic, still hope to identify as Jew if they separate themselves from the religious construct of Judaism. Surely Judaism is the raison d’etre that engenders the title of Jew. A Muslim would hardly call himself thus unless he believed in Islam. I was raised Roman Catholic but haven’t identified with that religion whatsoever since my teenage years. Nowhere in my self concept would the moniker Christian factor.
I admire Ashkenazi Jews for their talents as artisans and crafts people, as well as their intelligence and humour etc. I do not, however, feel like kicking a people out of their homeland in order to establish a state was a particularly fair thing to have happened, regardless of who or what relevant parties identify themselves as. The seismic shockwaves of that endeavour is sure to reverberate for aeons across history and in its own way fuels religious mania across the world.
It would be the most fascinating of all questions to ask Marx himself what he thought of it all.
@@TreforTreforgan You are so wrong! Being Jewish is not only about religion, it is a culture as well as a religion. I am Jewish but I am also a Catholic having converted to Catholicism when I was 36. My Father was Jewish but he was also an Atheist. My Father was also a Communist and a friend of Corbyn and they went on many peace marches together as well as anti-racist, anti-apartheid and anti-Semitic marches. Corbyn hates war or conflict of any kind and when we have seen him in the press pictured with who people would class as "the enemy" it is when he has met with them to try to bring about peace in a conflict or war!
@@jackredmond946 naom chomskey love them ;)
So I guess the Windrush is totally cool and fine in Rachel Riley's mind, considering she's so happy to vote Conservative?
Yup. If she's happy to vote tory when they're considerably more racist, it says a lot about her.
If she really did, she'd say I'm voting with a heavy heart or she'd vote for another party or spoil her ballot
Having read some of the comments here and got the general consensus I think I'll give this one a wide berth.
Way to go with group think from a self selecting left wing group
10:57 she can’t understand her own bias.
She is a Tory stooge!
Sorry, but what is stooge?
"I'm atheist and a Manchester United fan"
Didn't realise football was a religion
When they publicly endorse UN Resolution 2334 I will take them seriously. Until then I have more trust in Corbyn, most anti racist and least anti-Semitic politician in British history.
whats the obsession with being jewish. talking about jews etc etc.
Tbh, and I'm a card carrying Tory saying this, she's right about David Miliband, we had a spineless lot in 2015 and I think he would be prime minister today if labour had have chosen him over his brother.
Why isn't he in prison for his crimes in the Iraq War?

The needless deaths of 250,000 people.
** Political Spin **
Maybe she should understand that the person who’s interviewing her is part of a small group who has caused millions of people’s death and suffering. But at least she’s getting some coverage 👍👍👍 well done Rachael as long as your getting attention.
James Wight do you feel better now 👍
"im not a fan of strictly, i've never watched it" so awkward!
al jazeera - the Lobby ( 4 episodes ) UnderCover footage within the Labour Party
This comment section sucks ‘cremorne’
at first she says politics is just too tribalism* (bs) - at the end she says "im just man united .."

I’m no fan of Corbyn, and I usually really enjoy Alastair’s GQ interviews, but this is poor.
In terms of Israel/Palestine, she (correctly in my view) sees the importance of the Jewish people to have a safe home post WW2, but refuses to see the inevitable issues created by displacing Palestinians to achieve this. She (again correctly in my view) talks about the deranged views and actions of Hamas, but clearly refuses to see that many of the views and actions of the Israeli state are just as bad.
All of which is fine - Rachel is not a politician, she’s a TV presenter, and she’s entitled to her views. But why interview her about politics? Alastair has criticised many times political journalists interviewing other political journalists - this is an uninformed version of the same thing.
perhaps Britain should have offered up their own country as a safe haven instead of as usual making a balls of things and stealing other peoples homes.
Wtf is Rachel Riley?
A very silly girl.
Said it before Riley isn't that smart after all, OK she can do a few sums but didn't she study at Oxford uni for that?
She's very smart, anyone who can think that rapidly on TV is extremely intelligent. Probably 20-30 IQ points higher than the average lefty who thinks he's intelligent just because he's a lefty.
People dying from Tory cuts totally okay! Getting offended by press anti-semitisms SO PISSRD
The woman.has a superficial and facile understanding of politics.
Campbell is an alcoholic bully. His clumsy flirtation here is cringe-making.
Meanwhile, Riley now has the arrogant, bumptious, bullying mindset of threatening litigation against anyone on social media ("Twitter", for Godsake) who might say any hurty words about her.
Riley Reed is British?
Who cares what this silly girl thinks!
Your stereo is backwards
Everyone's into politics suddenly
Too late though, aren't they?
I hope one day she realises how much damage and harm she has done to the people she claims to love. But I doubt she will ever know the anxiety and fear of so many, from her cosseted world.
A very irresponsible and at the same time irrelevant broad, indeed.
