- Calico was founded in 1881 as a silver mining town in the Mojave Desert. By 1896, silver's value fell to $0.57 per troy ounce. Calico's silver mines were no longer economically viable. By the early 20th
century Calico was a
ghost town and fully
abandoned by 1907. Walter Knott began restoring the town in 1951. It's named after his employee "Calico Fred".
What an awesome place 👍👍👍 hopefully the commies would ignore this town.
Also i am surprised that this town was not included the game fallout new vegas.
Brother, I think we need another one of these Kool videos to keep us sane.
Great video. Did you go there during Calico days? I think it’s still an annual event.
No I didn't. I'm not a fan of big crowds as you can see most of my videos rarely have people in them.
Dude I like this vid please explore more creepy towns with camera and Comentry
Great footage & old style feel - Thank you :)
Go down to the outhouse behind the school and you'll see mine and my family's names carved in for the past 40 years lol, and just across the bridge at the little ice cream shop my grandfather's used to own make sure to say hi to Jessica she will give you a receipt so that as you're going through town you can stop in the saloon and the restaurant in order just the beer without ordering food you're welcome 😉😉
great video, you must have been there in the off season because I didn't see may people around. Must be a retirement job, move out in the desert and own a shop.
I wonder how authentic it really is, but it looks pretty awesome, would love to spend some time there.
My Favorite Ghost Town Is Still Castle Dome City for the surroundings.
Nice 👍🏻
Nothing like the desert southwest and a solitary road trip.
No place like it in the world.
In old western settings I look for the saloons, brothels, gallows. The cat strolling along added a homely feel.
Loved this. Would you ever consider doing a video on your top 10 (or top 5) favourite places to visit?
I'll probably make a top 10 ghost towns video at some point.
Great that there were so many historical tools and items on display in addition to the buildings.
I filmed 3 ghost towns that day, a brothel and 2 other places. So unfortunately I didn't have time to explore this place fully. Wish I had gone on the mine tour.
@@koolbuildings7916 sounds like you should visit the area again :)
Some day. That was the plan but I've lost travel bug in exchange for the lover bot bug.
@@koolbuildings7916 ahhh I see. Traveling is also not that much fun, lately, with all these restrictions. International travel, at least. Let's hope that insanity ends at some point. I doubt it, though. It is like a ratchet. Only one direction.
I can't drive across the US-Canada border. If I fly to the states I have to spend 2 weeks in quarantine. LOL I'm doing a few more trips this month in Ontario including Niagara Falls. So hopefully I'll have some new videos from that. I don't think this situation will end anytime situation.
