I still come back and watch this video all these years later. Amazing amp
God that Strat clean tone sounds better than most of the Fender amps I own.
Dude I much prefer my Marshall dsl 40 cleans than any fender I've played so far. And I'm mostly a clean on the edge of breakup player.
No doubt...that clean is GLORIOUS!
I was staggered! I thought my H&K was surprising in the cleans department, but I didn't expect a MARSHALL to do THAT!
+The One™ I think I read that Stevie Ray used Marshalls for the clean and Fenders for the OD tone. Usually it's the other way around but I see why Stevie liked the Marshall clean
Luke Baldwin what H&K do you have?
Still the best playthrough demo of this amp! Congrats!
100% FACTS!
This amp is a gem, I can't believe it took marshall this long to re-release it....
bonamassa played these for so long that he had them custom make him one and a bunch of other guitar players also so maybe our voices were heard xD
They did a limited run in 1996 with the slash sig.
@@brpadington HaHaHa it's two years you are drooling over a Jubilee. what a miserable loser.
@@spiritualcramp8000 Lol, why are you so rude? The one who is looking like a miserable loser is you, by taking others down with your saltyness...
@@spiritualcramp8000 You are the only loser I see here. The Jubilee is a great amp. You would know that if you ever played one.
The BEST of all the Silver Jubilee demos...
I own a silver jubilee 25/50 half stack.
Purchased it brand new in 1987 from King Music Center in Albuquerque NM.
Best sounding amplifier I've ever played through.
That Stratocaster sounds amazing .Best tones right there.
That clean tone with the Strat is GLORIOUS - I'm sold!
I come back to this video about every 6 months to remind myself to continue saving money. I imagine that in about one year I'll be able to get myself one.
*Edit* I’ve had this for about a year now and it was worth every penny. :)
I've bought a 1987x this year and have found the sound I've always heard in my head, but man, this demo is just tone nirvana. Hope you get your Marshall fix as well hahaha
@@XabierBadiola I bet! I believe my experience will be the same! I have played one at a store and it was definitely a connection. Unfortunately, my wallet did not support such connection at the time. hahah
JonMostMusic i had the amp. It’s awesome. Save the pennies. Has an amazing feel besides the sound. Just a joy to play. You get lost in it. And I have some high end amp. Marshall’s rule
JonMostMusic oh and also. He clean channel is the best pedal platform. I have a Carl Martin plexitone. And that through the clean channel is almost as good as my real plexi. So good. You will love it
Well did ya
I just watched a review of this amp from NStuffMusic and thought this amp sounded like complete ass, with no life and way too hairy, but this demo makes it sound like a total boss. The difference (besides the obvious) is that this video the gain on the amp is low while the other video was trying to get a Slash type AFD tone with much higher gain. So way to go guitarist. Great video.
Slash sucks, and still surviving off a few old hits...
most folks use way too much gain and then it sounds like crap- the secret is how to correctly dial in these amps. Then they sound amazing.
Renaissance Man Truth.
uh, slash only sets the gain on 6 with this amp..... which is exactly where this guy has it set. The AFD tone is not high gain dumb dumb
@@marvelharris9540 the people trying to imitate slash always max the gain on videos.
By far the best demo of this amp on here! I've just bought one after seeing this !
I remember when the Jubilees came out in '87. I almost bought a 50 Watt stack. The Jubilee sounded the way the JCM should have sounded if they got it right the first time. Incredible amps.
Great Demo. The holy trinity of guitar types, great amp with no effects... all in the hands of a skilful player. Can't ask for a better review. Loved the harmonic overtones at the end. Looked like you had fun too. Great job Mick.
Hope they consider making a 50watt combo...I want one!!!
+Tex Rex I'd say the trinity is Tele, Strat, Les Paul.
The SG is great - but those three are so distinct and influential.
+V100BB, I guess if the review was for a Fender amp I could agree but it has always been my view that Marshal amp and Humbuckers are a perfect match. Single coils guitars like the Tele still sound good but maybe even better through a cranked low power Fender amp. Just my opinion of course, I fully respect your views also.
dont hate effects, hate players who abuse and misuse them
But a comparison with a simple boost like tube screamer could be nice
@@V100BB If allowed a fourth, Es would trump SG as well. Although for gigs nice to have a nice light SG do humbuckers heavy lifting for 3 hrs lol! Although think point Mick making is not the guitar models but pickup response to amp. Single coil-humbuckers-P-90’s! Cheers!!
This sounds perfect. Clean, crunch and lead sound. But don't underestimate the recording chain.Great review.
one of the best demonstrations of the versatility of this amp!
Too much fun! The P90 sounded especially sweet.
Excellent demo! Besides the great playing skills there were no effects used, and this shows the characteristics of the amp with single coil, P90 and humbuckers - the full spectrum. Really well done, and shows what the Jubilee reissue can do.
Man, that sg rocks!! Very well played too
It's Angus Young
I bought mine from a friend in 92, best Marshall I've ever owned, 2019 and still a power house amp, although I play a Strat more now with it than my LP, so many cool tones happening, and yes the amp can clean up pretty well. I take the two outside power tubes out then drop the ohms on the amp so it'll match the quad again, a mod I found in the Mesa Hand book. So now a 50 watt, didn't like the switch down sound. Used my Jubilee at 100s of packed pub gigs, apart from a re tube now and then, it's never missed a beat. The 90s it was my Grunge amp, 25 yrs on and now it's my RHCPs amp, to SRV. And it has been a reliable workhorse, with a sound many amps struggle to get. In a band situation, it cuts through, great mids, tight bottoms, be careful how you set your presence and treb, you can make the amp sing or sink, get your eq right and you'll love your Jubilee, I do. Owned 3 different JCM 800s, and 3 900s, wish I kept 1 of the 800s, the 100watt head was creamy, but sold the lot and kept my Jubilee. My baby.
Would you ever sell it to me?
@@BrettKnows Not at the moment sorry, I'm very attached to it, maybe in the future at the right price of course, it would have to be good for me to part with it. 87 head 100 watt, orig jubilee quad, swapped speakers out, has vintage bugera 60 watt each, just to let you know. I'm in Melbourne Australia. Cheers.Doug
Glorious tone, especially to any Marshall fan!
Best demo!
This video made me want this so badly! Those tones are so great!!
Pure AC/DC at 7:54 :)
Ya i hear that too
That strat makes me weep every time I hear it; no matter what amp, pedal, or piece of gear it is demonstrating. What a sound.
What a great demo. Thanks for taking the time to capture the tone with good mics.
i bought one of the original versions of these new in 1987. it was the 50w short head with the matching slope fronted 2x12 cab. stupidly sold it some years later. these were designed to be used with V30's, so bear that in mind if you buy one of the reissue heads. amazing amps...so wish i still had mine...
Bravo! recording quality, Tone, & tasty playing! Best clip I've heard of this amp period. I'm sold.
Great playing as always, Mick. Pleasure to watch!
Not sure what all the thumbs downs are about...Sounds pretty good here...Best demo on youtube and I can't stand most new marshalls after owning the 30th Anniversary combo/head.This is a step in the right direction without a doubt....for a modern marshall that is...
Jealousy I expect :) .... yep, a reply 9 years later. Testament to a) the amp and b) the player.
I bought my 2550 fifty watt head from a shop in Germany in1987. Still a great amp.
This is still the best video demo of this amp out there. Absolutely love it, especially with The P90. Rock is supposed to be loud, a quiet Marshall kind of defeats the whole purpose. Grew up hearing and seeing a Marshall behind all my heros. Great video…still 🔥🔥🔥
You know, I've been thinking the Marshall or Marshall type amp that I should invest in is the Silver Jubilee, having seen Joe Bonamassa play through one years ago. Despite the fact that Joe now has pretty much chucked everything for Fender Tweed amps, I think my feelings on the Silver Jubilee have been vindicated. I'm going to get this beast! It appeals to my hard rock/metal side and to my cool and funky blues side.
Thanks Mick! This is the best demo of this amplifier I have seen yet, and listening to you play through it speaks much, much louder than all the reviews written about it (good or bad) ever could!
The silver jubilee has to be one of the best if not the best Marshall produced. I own or have owned the majority of the popular ones. The thing about the Jubilee is that is pretty diverse. Which is also reflected in this video. It can do clean, it can do medium gain. It does higher compressed tones. It's not a one trick pony like a lot of famous amps. Yet it has one petite 'flaw'... while the EQ on this amp is also pretty unique for a Marshall it is shared between the split channels. If they made it with 2 seperate EQ's then it would be perfect. The easy workout around it setting a 'works for both channels EQ' and just use a TS or the like as boost on lead. Can't say a bad thing about it other wise.
Mick, this video is what sold me on this amp ! Killer playing ,tones, set up mate !
That strat sounds tasty!
excellent demo, that Strat tone was incredible!
One of the best reviews I have seen. People, this is how you do it. A small intro, explains what you are reviewing then...STFU AND let the gear do the talking.
To my ears this is the best amp I have ever heard on RUclips. I want one.
And yes that Strat was every bit as tasty as everyone in the comments is saying`!
This kat can play!
Who is he?
That looks like so much fun! Sweet playing and a sweet demo of a beast of an amp.
Killer amp. But in all seriousness, who in this day and age has the luxury of being able to crank a 100W amp like that? Chances are you aren't doing that in a home recording setting, practice session, or small gig. Don't get me wrong, I love a dimed tube amp as much as the next guy, but it's just not a viable option anymore for 90% of players.
***** This model is a 50 watt/ 25 watt version. Which is still loud as all get out. LOL
***** My bad, it is a 100W amp. Got it confused with the old models.
Power attenuators are usually the solution. Some are load simulators allowing silent recording
***** I have this, my only amp at the moment, and a killer one at that, I use this for gigging, in pubs with a 2x12 and practice at home with it and prefer the 100 watt mode at home and gigging as apposed to the 50 watt mode, also when looking at this guys setting for volume, that's pretty much what I use when gigging. It has a weird volume sweep where you turn up to around 7 and its not really that loud, don't get me rong its loud but not too loud for gigging with. However as soon as you hit 8 and above it gets really loud. I just don't get it when people say oh its a 100watt head, who even needs that nowa days, until you've played one, you won't know just how usable it really is. The none master volume amps I can agree with to a certain degree, but come on just use a power attenuater for those beasts
***** Who in this day aren't aware of the Suhr Reactive Load, Torpedo Live/Studio/Reload and the Fryette Power Station?
Ive got the orig slash model (had it since 96).....at home or on stage it slays!! I installed a master vol and external bias and the amp is perfect!!
Best Jubilee demo video period. Does it justice. And as for getting a heavier, more overdriven sound, throw a Boss Super Overdrive. As long as yu don't pass 7 on the gain.
nothing better then a pushed marshall
You always make gear sound amazing!!!!! Congratulations Mike (because of you i bought my Knaggs Choptank, the Mesa Boogie Transatalntic series, both TA15 and TA 30). Great job! Thanks for your demos and great work
This amp is so killer and versatile. Easy to use. No bullshit.
Goddammit, now I have to buy a Jubilee.
reviewz Bye bye, kidney.
honestly mate, you wont regret it haha
Already started shopping before I read this...
@@FckYourFeelingsYT I ended up with a Friedman! Also two 1w anniversary Marshalls....
That SG brought the amp to life!
ONE PLEASE! What a smoking player as well, great touch and ideas
He is great. I thought he said a while back that the SG was something they'd had for a review and he didn't want to send it back. Looks like the old GAS won out again!
Lewis Cannon
Totally agree - great tasty player
It was a pleasure watching you play sir. Great skills.
Totally sold on the amp.
Mick is a helluva player. Made that amp sound great.
Can't wait to pick up one of these. I knew all my countless other Marshall and Fender amps were junk! Now I will finally have that sound I've been searching for 45 years. Thanks alot Mick. Ugh
This is the best amp that marshall ever made. And the second best amp after friedman amps.
And the funny thing is, this is the most modern sounding amp imho. There's no such a thing as 'vintage sound' for the amps. All those vintage sounding records sound vintage because of the limited studio equipments like tapes and analog gear which eat up the tones and dynamics. In fact, all those amps currently at the market are based on early Fender amps.
Then their is no such thing as a modern amp either.😂😃
Great demo! Love this amp, Marshall make some great stuff
Great amp I'm going to buy one. Oh BTW I use a sound shield at all my gigs big or small with my 100 watt H&K Tri-Amp and have never had a complaint. Cause it's all about the tone. Play on fellow rock brothers
Love it. Needs a matching 2x12 cab though. Who drags a 4x12 around pubs and clubs these days? Beautiful tone and great playing.
Glorious sound on all 3 guitars!! Well done!
I rented one of these in 89 and I’ve been chasing the tone ever since!
I just bought a brand new Jubilee just like yours and mine sounds the same it is a great amp I'm loving it
I have one. You should have pushed the clip knob back on the lead channel sounds louder, fuller and better without the clip engaged,
I'm very excited about buying a jubilee, but Mick is so good that I even suspect that the sound of the amp is as good as it is in this video because Mike sounds great with anything
Sounded amazing with the Fender 😍
very nice!,,, good tones, good chops,, touch sensitive,, and good sustain, feedback,, all good !!!!
Great demo, this amp sounds killer in this clip
Great demo, loved it so much I bought the amp with the matching 2x12.
Don't be afraid to twist that "Output Master" up to the 3 o'clock position... that's when that thing starts jumping off the floor!! I love my Silver Jubey... what a monster!! AND, no need for a noise gate. (yes, really)
That P90 is totally shocking!! I pray one day ill be able to get myself a Silver Jubilee 100 watt head!!!
+Tim Stanley I myself am saving up for a JVM joe Satriani amp but I played a Les Paul through the Silver J Reissue and it.....is....gorgeous. Great cleans and killer distortions. Just a killer....killer amp
just got mine a week ago, it's fucking awesome!! well worth the money, just crank it up and play...
He never turned the rhythm clip off :( the Lead tones sound much different when you push that button back in. Better IMO
And he had it set at 50 watts, which sounds good, but the 100 watt setting sounds better even at lower volumes. Sounds and feels more "alive" and rings pretty feedback...
I agree with your point. He never did turn the input clip back off.
Pat S. Nope it is on 100 watts
J A true enough, my mistake, thanks for the correction
Damn dude, you are a great guitar player...!
Thanks to this video i buyed my 2525 jubilee and i love it! Best Review of the YT!
Man would I love to let my 61' SG RI rip through this thing. That SG here sounds AWESEOME on this amp. That amp sounds damn killer anyways. That clean tone is insane, considering most Marshall's I've tried lack that clarity and chime you normally associate with a Fender. Jeesh, this amp has the best of both worlds. Now if I only had understanding neighbors :P.
Grat tone the stratocaster and SG,great feedback, great Marshall and great video, congratulations ,regards from Argentina.
Good Job guys. This is how it's done
The best amp ever made.
Sweet tones! From 8:08 on high gain with the SG that thing really sings!
Nice to see a demo with more playing and less talking. I can find the specs in the users manual. I wanna hear the damn thing cranked! Nice job.
Bought one of these and love it.
Does it sound at all vintage enough to get plexi tones? And how different is it from the jcm800?
Aidan Lefeld It sounds pretty different than a regular jcm800. It has a very smooth midrange sound. It sounds like a modded jcm800. I always found jcm800's to be too bright and harsh for my ears when played without a band. You can get some plexi like tones but if you are after a plexi tone you would be better off with a different amp.
+Aidan Lefeld you can get it as close to a cranked Plexi by bringing up the Lead Master and lowering the Input Gain. The Jubs tone mainly comes from the preamp section.
i say YES!! the mid eq has a huge range, set everything at 6, and the mids at 9, this is a real marshal power-amp under there, one of the best.
I must say i actually purchased this amp on the demo......Was going to buy it anyway off the old 1987 sound, but this made the decision easy as i could not access a 2555x to try.Cool stuff, great amp.......
This is by far the best demo of the reissue jubilee amp that I have heard, though I have mixed feelings as I had one back in '87, which I eventually sold to move to the JMP1 preamp. Rack gear was new and all the rage and was better right? I wish I still had the amp, can't quite justify forking out for a new one.
Lucky to have bought one of these brand new back in tha day - and in black! Great vid.
I believe yours is a Jubilee not a Silver Jubilee...the internals are a bit different
+JAFO-PTY You are right with the name since Silver Jubilee was only produced in 1987. Once year ended they continued making exactly the same amp internaly but switched to the black tolex which these days happens to be rarer. This was taken from History of Marshall book 'After the Jubilee year ended, the model was absorbed into the JCM800 range and known as Custom Series.... They are now becoming quite a collector pieces, and many people - notably Slash, of Guns N' Roses - won't play anything else! ". If I remember correctly, mine cost me brand new £295 from the Rock Shop in Camden, London - oh, and my Les Paul which I bought at the same time was £595. Perfect pair to this day!
How to demo great gear… and Mick Taylor s talent as a player helps no end…i hope Marshall have this on their website its light years ahead of their old demos...
Does it really sounds such good? I'm really impressed, no peaking highs, a lot of low mid growl, nice woody tone. Georgeos amp as it seems. I will check it out soon as the price in Germany seems very attractive!
Great demo. You definitely enjoyed playing that!
I own 2 originals, they are amazing!
Killer playing killer amp, that's how a jubilee should sound
I can't understand why marshall discontinued the 100 watt versions of these amps. They sound amazing, very true marshall tone. I can't believe they re-issued the jcm 900 which doesn't even compare to the tone of these amps! And with that said, the 25 watt versions doesn't cut it. I know a lot of people might argue that the small versions of these amps sound good, but I beg to differ - they sound small! The 100 watt versions are where it's at.
I challenge all in-ear digital-amp guitarists to recreate the last 30 seconds of this video, that part explains why I use a real amp.
Those first few chords with that SG…..🤘🤘
Vintage Strats’ bridge pick up tend to sound their best with JTMs and JCMs. There’s something going on there.
It’s sharp and in that context also becomes fat... like it was invented to be played with those amps.
May be it has to do with the 50s Tweed amps... I’d like to try...
sounds fantastic, great demo Mick.
Everybody talking about the Strat that Les Paul Jr is killer too.Great demo man
The strat and the P90s sounded great...Didn't care for the SG bucker tones...The P90s win! Great video!
he probably should have kept the mids up for that guitar as well. the mid tone on that amp will go to supper scoop to 69 plexi,,
Nice demo but to be honest, I like the jcm800 2203 reissue better. This one has a bit of a fizzy gain sound that I dislike. Too compressed.
this amp can open up more you come up in volume and down in preamp gain and tern off the clipping sections. i think it is a darker tone then jcm 800, but that is why i got it, i have not done a side by side with a 800 but this mid control is vary wide, it could sound close.
I think the 80s Marshalls we're the highwater mark for them Love my 800
@@DANTHETUBEMAN My 800 I have to keep the treble and presence down unless I EQ my overdrive way down or run a second amp with it but usually try to keep preamp down and power up That helps as well But have too be picky with FX unlike Fender amps
Was thinking of getting Jcm 800 reissue now I’m on the fence …..liking this beast too
sweet, i was kinda waiting to hear the high gain pushed back in while on the lead channel.
Are people today weenies, or what? We used to play through Marshall 100 watt stacks in our house, or any other place we could find, and no ear plugs... We had a great time, and the sound was awesome. It seems more people are worried they will never find that special "tone" that will make them a RUclips star, when they should just crank the damn amp, and play... It's about the Music, not some magical tone...
Tramp Like I've just said in the other comment. Times have changed and you wouldn't be able to do this now.
Why? I do...
Tramp It was more in reply to your other comment really. So you're telling me you just drag your amp anywhere and just play? Where and what time of day? Don't get me wrong I'd love to be able to get a jamming session together and just play in a field somewhere but somebody would just end up calling the law
Tramp haha yeah. all I ever wanted growing up was an amp I could hear through the mix and over the drummer, this first happened with my laney 100wGL and the addition of a gibson. then finally the JCM800 came to me and I wad right on track, now I've settled with my 25/50 silver jubilee combo, realy versatile tone and coupled with a 4x12 greenback caninet it's pure sex. the green back takes some of the harshness out and brings out the subtitle over tones, clarity and gives the mid more colour and break up, you can just hear that much more of the guitar plus it scoops up and chuggs if you want it to.
People have forgotten what made the old rock sounds so damn good, it was a simple setup played at high volumes... When I was a kid there used to be a band who routinely plated at a park about 10 blocks away from my house and you could hear every note, nobody called the law... People today are just a bunch of assholes...
What bridge pickup is in that Strat? Sounds killer and not harsh as most would sound with this amp. I’ve watched this video over and over for reference with my 2555X. Love it! I think the Jr. with the P90 is my absolute favourite tone.
Top Drawer playing Mr Taylor.
The Strat was magic.
The joy on your face playing with that feedback at the end man :)
Man I was going to get Bogner XTC but after watching this and trying one of these I'm set! Absolutely disgusting amp and I mean that in a extremely positive manner!
Did you happen to try a semi-hollow body through this? Any thoughts? That SG tone is so ridiculously good by the way! Thanks for a stellar demo. :)
Beautiful sounding Amp
Incredibly good demo vid! My favorite model of my favorite brand 😉
