@@SiddharthKarunakaran The guitar feels very cheap and the pickups are absolutely some of the worst I’ve ever played, shrill and ice pick heavy it’s as simple as that. I bought a McCarty se for similar price and it feels premium unlike this.
What makes you say so? As in, what does this guitar offer that other guitars in this price point don't already? Many gigging musicians already have gigging gear in my opinion... and I can't see particularly amazing value for money here.
@@DebowyMocny you do have a valid question. And you do not need to agree or like same thing. Specially you do not need to buy something you do not need or like. That said let me try to explain myself. I am in fixing stuff, playing music and helping musicians over 30 years. Always doing it for the people with no real money helping out and such. People that love music and enjoy playing and chasing tone. Also people that are real professionals but will never be able to grow out of the bar and small venues gigs. Some even get to get their dream instruments but they do not want to take those to a gig and get them damaged and stolen. Sure every PRS SE nowadays will be good gigging instrument. Many other companies make good stuff as well. What makes this one special is that it is what I was always hearing that people want. It is 3 humbuckers Strat that can do Strat thing and 3 positions humbucker thing. Guitar that plays easy like a SuperStrat and can do vintage thing as well. In Germany they have expression its a eggs laying, full milk pig. Means it does everything. Plus this is completely new Far East pickup that is not your normal size or type. Pauls USA guitar has narrow field pickups but Pauls SE was having normal humbuckers. This has this new pickups and that is different. Every such guitar can cover lor of ground and is great for gigging and studio work. That is what I meant. I did not mean everyone must or will love it. I can see it sell very good. Lets see what happens and are the people who were always saying that they want this exactly will put the money where their mouth was. But once who do will get good quality guitar that is very versatile and is build very good.
I would strongly disagree. I just played a few of these at my local music store and they sound terrible once you add overdrive let alone distortion. There is a reason the NF pickups never took off in the past. They are only ok with clean tones. In person they look and feel very cheap especially compared to my SE MCcarty and SE custom 24. They are the opposite of versatile.
@BkBk-gy6vr I haven't seen them in person, let alone play them. So, my opinion was based on this demo only. Hence, I can't speak about it. Everything is possible, and I will eventually try them out and form my opinion on how they sound and look in person. Regarding your statement of NF pickups in core guitars, I do not know how you come to that conclusion and what you have expected from them. For single coil purists, there is no substitute for the sound they make. No noiseless single coils and no humbuckers will every sound the same as good singke coil pickup. But they can sound good enough plus provide no noise and even thicker driven sounds if you like that. Take first gen Fender noiseless pickups. No details rolled of top end. Kinmann came out and did a way better job. Do Kinmann pickups sound like real single coils? Close but no cigar. It's very close but not close enough for purists. On the other side, NF were not really supposed to substitute single coils. They are new type of tone pickups. They are also not the substitute for humbuckers either. They are new beast. You do not need to like them but there are people who like them and use them to create great music with them. I personally think that in all SE guitars, most of the savings cones from the pickups and electronics. Not that you do not get value for the money but changing that elevates SE guitars to even higher levels. I own 594 Wood Library, but I own a few SE guitars as well. I own a few G brand CS and ML guitars, and one boutique made guitar. To be honest, I own too many guitars. In all my SE guitars, I have changed tuners and complete electronics. I have built them 50's wiring harnesses with propper USA made parts, and I have forked out for very nice pickups. Parts came to almost the price of the SE guitar and one could argue was it worth it. For me, yes, for sure. For example, my Bernie Marsden MKII is at a level of any good CS LP regarding the tone and playability. I used it as the reference when I was hunting for my LP. If you are about to pay 6 to 10K for an LP, it better be better and sound better than something that costs under 2K. That guitar discarded many LP's and helped me filter out G brand jungle. It is guitar that is making no pressure on you. You can take it anywhere. SE guitars are perfect for that.
Position 4 and 5 are the only 2 I need to hear to determine if s style guitar is good. And this one killed it with that tone. It's a toss between this and the John Mayer silver sky.😊
@@lzosimo I am sure it will be a cool SE....but ya, the old NF3 is a Core level PRS in every way. Fantastic instrument. Sadly, PRS seems to be remaking their non-fancy designs as SE's and S2's. It is a shame because some of those old Core level guitars (Standards, Swamp ash specials, Mira's) were outstanding!
Hey @prsguitars! It would be ideal if the treble-pickup clip here matched the strumming demo that Bryan does in his Rosewood SE NF3 video. The jangle there is just sublime, while the chicken-pickin' here is hard to compare. (For those of us on the fence.) Every other pickup position in this demo sounds more true to the S-style template, some of us love maple fretboards, and it's great to finally see them on SE's. The pearl birds here look even more natural than the pretty abalone birds on my SE SAS (and much better than black birds), so congrats on finally dialing in that aesthetic touch.
This seems to be a great workhorse guitar, smooth shinny cleans but still that bit of humf for them dirty tones (as seen in some other videos), def one that i'll be considering in the near future.
I have 1990 PRS Special. All mahogany. Neck-through. Some years ago tried a PRS bolt-on and hated the feel of it. But these look and sound great! Very tempting. My other guitar is a 1982-84 Squier Stratocaster with a rosewood (?) fingerboard, but I always wanted to try a maple neck.
The "lower" end of PRS guitars is actually really exciting. I have a Core 24 but I don't think I could ever purchase something at that level again.....certainly not with what you can get these days in the SE range.

I’ve listened to the demos of both the maple board and the rosewood board ones, and I swear I can hear a difference. I certainly can on Telecasters. On thesr NF3s, it seems like the maple is a little brighter, and I like it better. Maybe it’s all in my mind…
Well I’d appreciate if you’d get out of my mind, because I’m hearing the same difference. Lessons From Cameron has a review where he plays the same simple riffs on both models and it’s very obvious to me.
I haven't much been a fan of se models, but wow now i want this very version. Maybe not white or orange or black but if they have a blue, i love blue guitars. I could see playing this in crowds, it talks so quietly but so loud when you want it to. Anyone tried one yet? I want the maple fretboard.
I do believe that the maple neck does produce a somewhat brighter sound. Quite nice, but, "when" I pull-the-plug it will be for the rosewood version. PRS, thanks for the option!
Two nitpicks: The pickup switching doesn’t include a treble and bass combination to get that T-in-the-middle sound, and this guy’s chops don’t come with the purchase of the guitar…😅😅😅!
The SE is very unexciting to me personally. I’ve got two 2011 NF3’s that are just superb. This to me is PRS trying to appeal to the masses that can’t afford to spend on core models.
Half the reason you watch these reviews is to see Brian play! Killer looking guitar.I Love how these narrow field pickups sound.
How this man plays, sells more PRS guitars than the rest of the marketing team! Huge bow, man!
The one thing I love is that pesky volume knob is down out of the way…thank you PRS👍
I’m used to where it is on a Strat, but I play Teles and Gibson SGs more often, so I guess it doesn’t matter! I use a volume pedal anyway.
This is the coolest SE I’ve seen
Agreed, coolest SE since the very first Santana SE. Great job Bryan presenting these
You may be right.
Yeah play one like I did you won’t think it’s so cool.

For years, I've been also waiting for that 😅😅😅
Definitely!
Thinking the same thing
That position 4 is the best one to my ears in the clean tone. Interesting guitar. I like the color options too. 👍
I think this is a perfect example of PRS having their own sound/soul. I love it. But I also love my Custom 24, McCarty, CE etc….😊

Ahhh Mr Ewald is always a pleasure to listen to. 👌
Exactly what I’ve been looking for.
If I had to take only one guitar to a session or gig this would be it.
I love this! This and the rosewood version seem like something Jeff Healey would play if he were a PRS artist and still with us
I bought the orange one as soon as I saw this. Sweetwater hadn’t finished unboxing it yet. If it’s as good as the Zach Meyers SE I’ll be in heaven
I don’t think I could be happier about this.
Ooohhhh I like that.

I have a 2012 NF3, black with maple board. It is one of my favorite guitars ever, both in feel and how those narrowfields respond!
Those were nice! I almost bought one back then, but I got a Brent Mason model in 2012 instead. I may have to get one of these SEs though.
There’s no way the new SE’s can touch the original NF3.
There’s a reason why they’re selling for three times the price of the new SE version.

Have to say no matter how hard I try or no matter how many I play I’ve never heard or played a PRS where I was crazy about the tone.
This one sounds a bit more jangly with the maple fret board. It produces such an excellent sound. Thank you for this really good demo, Bryan! 👍👍👍
Very similar visually to the excellent Brent Mason sig, can see these being picked up by gigging pros, great sounding bit of gear...
I'm a rosewood guy but for some reason I liked the maple better. Maybe it's just psychological.

Some of your dealers kinda blew it early on reverb.
I've seen some retailers blow it for Jackson and Ibanez in the last few months as well. Oops.

Doesn't appear to have locking tuners. Why, when all the recent models have locking tuners? Why ditch that feature? Makes no sense.
I'm not aware of a single PRS SE that comes from the factory with locking tuners.
It's a real shame they used poplar for the body instead of a good tone wood. Just like with the SE Silver Sky, totally wastes the great pick ups. 😜
