Amazing sound! Reasonable power, bcoz back in the day these cars came out with no turbo charges, only naturaly aspirated!

I would do some very unspeakable things to own a wagon version of a W8 Passat with a manual transmission.
With all due respect, I hate manual wagons. I prefer them in coupes and hatchbacks and when there are no coupe or hatchback versions I prefer to have a manual in a sedan rather than in a wagon.
Had to make another comment as I loved this one so much and the W8 strapped down blown my mind the revs only moved slowly but the acceleration and speed stunned me. Great video decently deserves a thumbs up 👍

Such a great all round car and personally love the estate version 130bhp and once you get a towing hook fitted in place and a roof box on top and you have a car that can do the lot, except drive itself.

I love mine, but theres one REALLY big problem.
It drinks like, *mad* It eats 19.1 in city at normal let me repeat, *normal* use.
And it's not fast at all. Makes just as much power as a stock older EVO while weighing like 1800kg and having an old ass lazy auto box. Must be fun as hell to drive something like this around tho isn't it?

Its only 275hp on car with over 1700kg weight combine that with old slow automatic gearbox and awd and you have an overweight sedan with not enough power to move.
Needs a turbo strapping to it give it some go to match the noise !

How the hell did they fit a W8 in this thing? The engine bay was Allready cramped with the 1.8t
This Passat is the only one based on the Audi A4. Piëch decided that, because he wanted a real V6 in the Passat, and because of that the engine need to fit in lengthways. Because of that the B5 is one of the controversial Passats ever built (they had to change all their production lines and this caused some problems VW wasn't able to fix until they released the facelift), but it's also one of the only Passats where a far bigger engine than a R4 fits in.
Plus the W8 is veeeery small, because of it's double-VR construction. In length it's as big as a regular V6
