    I recently just finished the Cardcaptor Sakura manga and have been discussing it with a friend of mine, but they've only experienced the anime. So thank you for making this video in order to help the both of us.

    Another difference is that in the manga after the school festival when Sakura and Tomoyo say how much they love each other, Tomoyo stands for a bit and has an inner monologue saying that even if the words are the same, the way she loves Sakura is different.
    It is right there confirmed that Tomoyo is romantically in love with Sakura, but is content that Sakura loves her only as a friend.
    In the anime she just smiles at her.

    2:42 I spat out my drink in shock at this line! 😂 I've only seen the anime and was thinking about reading the manga and I think that line alone has convinced me-

    1:16 Sakura mentions in the next chapter that the pager got soaked in water when the illusion card tried to kill her that it stopped working completely (in the manga, the illusion card was in the bottom of the lake next to the Penguin King park instead of the anime's cliff). It's never brought up again likely because Tomoyo gave it to her to have a way to contact with them from underwater, and no other mission called for something similar.

    I've watched the anime so many times and read the manga at least 4 times and yeah, I'm happy to see that I've noticed all of those things 😎
    Great video !

    I recently finished the manga and enjoyed it enough (I definitely didn't like the multiple times an adult and child were in a relationship) but one question I have is her pink outfit. The one that seems to be used in a lot of anime merch, it's no where in the manga lmao. So was that outfit specifically made for the anime? I always thought that was her transformed outfit (like sailor moon) and was totally shocked when she just wears Tomoyo's outfits 😂

    Here are a few small changes:
    Two are in the final battle against Eriol.
    Just like the anime, Syaoran helps Sakura channel her magic, but he ends up passing out too, leaving Sakura alone. I perfer this. In the opposite case, Fujitaka does not fall asleep due to being half of Clow Reed's reincarnation.
    Next, Tomoyo is also not present when Sakura makes the first Sakura Card. Again, I pefer this because poor Tomoyo (and too a lesser extent, Melling, but I do like her) was such a repeated victim of the card in the anime.
    Maybe it's just the much higher card count, but the anime also puts much more emphasis on Sakura collapsing after making Sakura cards, making it a bit more dramatic. I feel like, bar the first time, it's glossed over in the manga.
    Side note, but I really didn't like the addition of the Sleep card in the anime after reading the manga, it made things too easy and convenient.
    Meanwhile, I perfer Nadeshiko healing Sakura in the anime. It's more meaningful and impactful, but I like both versions. I just like the "dead mum cliche" was slightly played with via her ghost, though more in the anime.
    Ok, I'm going to stop comparing them now and say that I love both.

    • @otaple

      Great additions. Your absolutely right that the sleep card just being added for convenience. XD

    Excellent video Didn't know clow reed gave up his magic to sakuras dad only went back after watching all of CCS and Clear Card. You could almost say the timeskip is a preface for the clear card series. Hope they get to finishing CCS Clear Card Season 2 soon bit annoying having to read the rest of the story in the manga. I assume there's differences between Clear Card in manga and anime form as well?

  • @DarkNekoStudio

    CCS honestly as been puzzling me, even more more now that iv'e just completed my first read of the books...in there, Eriol tells Sakura that he waited since Clow's death for her in his 10 years old form for her to become the mistress of the cards.... How about her dad which is the other half of Reed. How does he not remember wandering for so long... At least a century i think.... Was he in stasis and then woke up at the right time? Then met Nadeshiko? Like yukito, he doesnt remember any family.... How did yukito get a house? How did Fujitaka became a legal citizen if he was born from magic without powers? How could the Reed estate stays empty for sooo long while Eriol was in england.... Or was he hiding in there all along?how did yukito enrolled at school out of nowhere? So much unanswered questions...

      I think the biggest part of the manga I would have liked them to keep in the anime would be Sakura’s dad being Clow Reed’s reincarnation but I grew up on the anime and don’t think I’ve read the manga

  • @danielladahoui888

    One difference I noticed is that there are details explained in the manga that aren’t mentioned in the anime. For instance, Clow made Sakura’s staff pink because he knew the next owner was going to be a ten year old girl (assuming that he knew her favourite colour was pink and didn’t just base it on a stereotype!). Or the detail that people either gravitated or disliked each other based on their magical source: Syaoran didn’t get along with Kero, as they respectively represented the moon and the sun, Syaoran was in love with Yue as they both represented the moon, but Sakura liked everyone and everyone liked her because she embodied both the sun AND the moon.
    Also, they briefly mention that Sakura is (or at least might be) more powerful than Clow at the end of the manga.

    • @otaple
      @otaple  3 месяца назад

      I remember the anime briefly touching on Syaoran being drawn to Yue's moon energy, but you're right and the manga definitely goes more in-depth with those things.

    now I know where I got those information 😂 last year I re-watched the anime after 20-ish years. then after finished, I talked with myself like, "wasn't Sakura's father a part of Clow Reed or something?", "didn't Sakura give him a bear?", "didn't Syaoran confess in the playground?" I felt like I didn't watch all episodes, something is missing. But now I know why 😂😂😂 Because I borrowed the comics from an indie library 20 years ago. I don't have the comics which I plan to have now 😂😂 Thank you for the information!

    Great video!
    I love this kind of thing - even if I'm not that familiar with either version. Really makes me wonder about some of the changes, and why they make them. I guess there'd be a lot of reasons. Easier to animate/more visually appealing, 'um how about no pedophillia in our show for little girls'. To be a fly on the wall in those decision rooms though.. Real interesting stuff! Do you have a preferred version?

    • @otaple
      @otaple  2 года назад +3

      Yes! I like the anime better to be honest. It's really the only adaptation of a CLAMP manga that I think improved upon the source material, rather than failing to do it justice (such as the chobits' anime for example). Just the original anime and two movies that go with it though. The clear card arc anime is its own ball of confusion and disappointment. It's probably best to stick to the manga for that.

You provided amazing information but stating their names rather English or Japanese is very bad.
