I’m an amateur choral singer in Scotland, usually big choral/orchestral pieces (Verdi Requiem in June), but sometimes smaller chamber choir pieces. Just come across this piece, absolutely love it, completely gorgeous.
Jesse, this piece is so necessary. I am a HS choir director in Southern California, and have been looking for pieces to fit a theme of Sacred music that also has a depth of affect and story telling. This piece fell into my lap while I was searching. Thank you for writing it. Do you have copies for sale at all? We would love to perform this with the chamber choir.
Thank you Benjamin! I very much appreciate your interest! I have yet to publish the piece, as I am making a couple of tweaks to it currently after receiving some good feedback. Once I am finished with it, I will look into publishing. I have not published any of my works before so I will have to do a bit of research first, but I will be in touch once I evaluate what my options are! Thank you again for your comment!
So beautiful!! I always liked these kind of harmonies and I would love to sing this in a choir! It works very well with the text. Thank you for sharing with the notes!👌👍
Hey there! Thank you for your interest. This link should take you to the site where you can purchase the digital sheet music. www.musicnotes.com/marketplace/sheetmusic/MK0036377 I will also have the link in the description of the video. Thanks!
Your use of dissonance is amazing! Present but not overdone. I might consider voicing the peice a bit differently so that your sopranos don’t have to drop down to that Bb. If they’re professionals then disregard all that, but those lower passages could be an opportunity for the altos to take over the melody for a while.
I come back to this piece weekly because it touches me very much so thank you Jesse. I wanted to ask why are there so many rests between the phrases. Is it a rest reference? I'm only asking this because it almost feels better to sing through them rather than breaking them up.
Hey @thefirstsupermayne3136! Thanks for the question. I'm glad that you like the piece enough to revisit. When I recorded the audio for this composition, I had a metronome playing in the background, so all of my tracks, for the most part, stick to the metronomes clicks that play in my headphones as I record. When a real choir performs this, they would have a bit more freedom with the length of the pauses as they would have a conductor rather than a bunch of clicks! I never thought of the 'rests' having a double meaning so it's funny that you mention that! If you listen to the Orange County Community Choir recording of this piece (also on my channel), they Benjamin shortens the pauses a little bit. Thank you again for your question!
I'm part of a travelling choir and I would love to get this in the hands of my director. Is there any ways to work with you on purchasing 30 copies or a license to print this 30 times for use with the choir? I would also make sure we record it to give to you for your purposes.
The score for the piece is now available through this link. I would very much like to hear any recordings you may make of the performance! Thanks for your interest! www.musicnotes.com/marketplace/sheetmusic/MK0036377
Came here from Reddit. This is really good! You got a fine performance from your choir -- which, is all you? Quite a few parts of this piece look tricky.
I appreciate your feedback. The nice part about one man choirs is that I can have hundreds of bad takes that sound horrible, but if I splice in one good take where my voice doesn't crack, it sounds good. Im glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely piece! I'm programming this with my choir in January.
Magnifique !
Love this! Also came from Reddit. Subscribed!
Divine music. 🥹😊
Magnificent and sublime
Just Beautiful

Very beautiful!! I wish it were on Apple Music and other streaming services; I can't stop listening to it. Wonderful interpretation too.
Thank you! I may explore the possibility of adding some of my music to streaming services.

Sure thing! I tend to understand music more intuitively by ear, but I know that some people would rather have the sheet music.
I love this!
This changed me as a human.
Genial! ❤
Where can I purchase the sheet music?

Did you get that top B-flat yourself? Very rare for a guy to reach there!
Yes I did. I think it’s falsetto but the sounds is resonating from farther back in my throat that my lower range falsetto around middle C.
