Finding all your videos very helpful - I'm revalidating my PPL A after 17 years and I'll be flying from Ince. I'm 71 now and I'm impressed with your radio work Rory. As you know in Ince there are many Eurostars and I'll be looking to get a share in one. Pity you didn't record your radio traffic with Birmingham on your Coventry trip as it's always helpful to listen to their traffic. I think I'll get my wife to fly with me as well as it will be her first time in a light aircraft. I previously had a share in an ARV Super 2 which we based at Barton.
Hi Mike, Thanks for watching and I'm glad you find the videos useful. I must get back over to Ince as it's a great field so I'm sure we'll bump into each other at some stage. There wasn't any 2 way comm between me and Birmingham actually because they have a listening squawk. We tuned into Birmingham Radar and had 0010 on the transponder until we changed to Coventry Radio. Cheers
Another great video, thanks for posting Rory. It makes me very happy to realise that I'm not the only one who can land perfectly on one detail then completely arse up the next! The lesson after my solo was a shocker (in my defence there was a 15kt wind)!
Steve Middleton yeah, well I'm hoping to get some ideas as to what went wrong and ultimately whether I should have gone around. It's more frustrating when you know you can do it properly to then get it wrong. Thanks for watching!
Looks like you kicked a little too much left rudder to de-crab just before touch-down. You seem to have the correct aileron input as you were near full right there.
A.M. Fortas she does really enjoy flying with me but I don’t think she’s going to take it up herself. She says “what’s the point when you can do all the work”. Fair enough!
Another great video Rory!! I am lined up to take the second part of my FRTOL exam in a couple of weeks and its just not sticking. I am studying your video's and now especially due to your excellent radio chatter. Keep up the good work!!
R1FREESTYLE thank you - I’m delighted you enjoy the video. I feel the need to drop a small disclaimer in that I’m obviously not an instructor or even an experienced pilot so please don’t take what I say or do as gospel! I do my best to be as accurate and professional as possible though so I’m really glad it’s a helpful starting point. I do the same with other people’s videos too. Good luck with your exam!
Fair point Rory, same should be applied to anything viewed on RUclips, we are mostly enthusiastic amateurs:-) Keep the videos coming very enjoyable and well edited too.
Another great video. Have you ever thought of electronic mapping like Sky Demon or ForeFlight? It'll mean Lizi doesn't have to fight with paper maps any more..
Adrian Arnold hi Adrian, thanks for watching. This is actually a video from a while ago and I do now use SkyDemon on my iPad when I fly now. I still like to use the paper chart for reference and to have it as a backup though. Cheers!
I liked Lizze's comment on your second landing as being a bit "Rrrr" or was it "Grrr"? Great to have an enjoyable fly around like this isn't it? You are beating my subscriber count by one (but no competition as I think your content and delivery style is much better than mine!) All the best Tim
Ha ha - yeah, it wasn't very slick at all that landing. I love flying around enjoying the countryside and having an enthusiastic passenger is great too. I enjoy your content and the more we can all do to promote the fact that GA flying in its many forms is fun and safe has to be a good thing I think. Thank you, Rory.
Thanks Kevin, It's a Sony ICD PX440. There are several very similar ones which do the job well as they are small and light. It's great that my wife likes to fly. :)
What made you go for your own headset? Reason I ask is I've a cheap 'SEHT' one which I bought to modify for the broadcast work I do but long story short it would need modding back to be aircraft compatible. Do you find the ones that MainAir provide get uncomfortable for long periods of time? As this is often my issue with Peltors etc. Hygiene also an issue. Interested to know your thoughts and reasons for going for the Bose
Jonny Starr well I have no experience of SEHT but the Mainair ones are fine. I didn’t find them uncomfortable and did all but the last few hours of my training using them. However I felt I needed my own set going forward and Marcus and Chris both fly the A20s. They are £1000 but they are in my view the best. I work as a sound engineer so protecting my hearing long term is critical to me and as I already own Bose consumer gear I knew that the noise cancelling would be excellent - which is it. They should last years too. If your committed to learning I would get your own pair. I should have got mine sooner.
I'm looking at doing my LAPL(a), do you own this aircraft, or just hire it? And if so what would be an idea of cost for a trip similar to this, TO from an Airport, land at another, stop for lunch and depart back home just for example?
Ah nice one Jack. It totally depends on the aircraft and the school you hire from so best speak to your local one and get some prices. This is a microlight so flown on an NPPL(M) not a LAPL too.
@@RoryOnAir thanks for the quick response! I'll be checking some more videos out. I came across yours just searching for halfpenny as its my local as such. I'm waiting to hear back from one of the schools situated there but I'll also look elsewhere. I'll take a look into NPPL also, I'd like to do it for fun, family/friends to begin with. How long have you been flying for yourself? Do you still get the same enjoyment out of it now from when you first started?
@@jackwood1281 I’ve had a licence for about 4 years and I love it. I’m flying helicopters now which is different and fun. Go for it - you’ll have a great time
@@RoryOnAir that's awesome. I've been in contact with 2 local flying clubs, im hoping to pop down on this coming Friday, or weekend to have an induction and get the ball rolling now
Im a student pilot at halfpenny green, there is a large dip in runway 22, which is very deceiving during the flare.
I could have used that as my excuse! 👍
Just done a radio course, so the chat makes more sense now. Some lines by the the pupils in the practicals had us in stitches.
MrAlwaysBlue Glad to hear it’s making more sense now! Thanks for watching
MrAlwaysBlue -- Hi mate, been watching Rory’s Videos a lot recently... and you comment almost all his videos...
Have you passed your NPPL?
Another great watch. The 2 of you together makes for some bloody funny viewing. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Andy182w ha ha - thanks Andy. Glad you enjoyed it. Lizi is a great P2.
Another good one Rory...working my way through your back catalogue...compulsive viewing for these winter days!

Lizzy is getting to like the flying bizzo and even seems eager to do some of the co-pilot duties. I expect she will want to do the flying soon..

The times I have had hard landings like that has been because I didn't keep the speed up, particularly important two up.
