I have a ton of brushes I never use... I think you subscribe to a beauty box for more than a year, you'll have a ton of useless brushes. I've got a few gems here & there, but most are the weirdest shapes I can't figure a use for other than my granddaughters shenanigans 😜

YES. a so many came from sub boxes, and I did find some great ones that way, but also some weird ones.

Wooooo! Linda, you did an amazing job with this declutter! I completely understand hanging on to brushes because they are expensive. I still have a lot of my old MAC brushes that are at least 10 years old, closer to 15. Natural hair, and they still work great and are going strong. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who goes out and buys 3 or 4 more of a fluffy crease brush when I find one I love. No apologies. I use them every day in every makeup look.
Have to add here that as a massive Prince fan, it makes me grin every time you wear your Purple Rain shirt. The fact that you're wearing it in today's video, posted on my birthday, felt like an extra special (unintentional) wink from you. 💜🎸

And foundations and eye shadow palettes are the hardest. I have over 50 eye shadow palettes of all sizes.

I can tell how cathartic was for you and now you can actually FIND the brushes you want to use when you want to use them! I think after a few months you will be able to pair down further because you will be able to see the ones you kept that you really don’t use. Good job 👍🏼

I think you did great Linda. I'm the last to judge you as I have a huge collection and although I have my favourites, I go through phases in which I favour some facebrushes over others. And I don't have the excuse that I don't want to wash my brushes all the time as I wash my eyebrushes almost everyday and my facebrushes at least two times a week. I don' t mind having a lot, looking at all those clean and soft brushes makes me happy. Oh and I dislike double ended brushes with a passion.

I just decluttered twice recently.if I hadn't used it in 6 months or more, it went. It felt good to get rid of so much. Things I can't seem to part with are my YSL lipsticks. The packaging is just so pretty.
I really did try to do the six month thing too, but it didn’t work as well as I wanted it to.

Way to go! I’m so bad at holding onto things as well. Not makeup related, but I have so many shoes that I just don’t wear. I don’t have hundreds of pairs, but I certainly have many more than I need, use or like.
Shoes are SO difficult to get rid of because "some day", you might "need" them!
I know how hard this was! I'm proud of you (even though I never encourage declutters 😆). I went through my face brush collection slowly and showed it all on IG. It took over a year to try them all out and give mini reviews, lol. So I know the feeling of wanting to keep them all!

Wow you did great! I really need to go through my face brushes since now I pretty much only use cream products which I cannot use my stupid expensive brushes with so I haven’t used them in years but still have them.

Not sure if you are going to hate me for this video idea, but...could you come back in a few months and make a video discussing this declutter. My ideas would be: did you get rid of any brushes that you later missed and wished you kept?, do you wish you'd gotten rid of more brushes?, have you rediscovered any great brushes because you can see everything you have more easily?, etc. I think it would make a very interesting video down the line since this was clearly a struggle for you to do. I felt so bad for you! I am the opposite type of person - I hate clutter to the point that I will throw out too much and then realize I got rid of something I really need. 😂 I hate to admit this, but about 2 years back I realized I hadn't washed my makeup brushes in about 2 years (I went through a very minimal makeup phase for a long time) and I got so grossed out that I threw them all away and bought a new cheapy brush set from colourpop. 😳 It hurts me a little to think of it now...my MAC 239s, 224s, and my all-time favorite brush...the 217. I would love a recommendation for a cheaper option for the 217. I just don't want to spend like 30 bucks on another one, but that was literally my HG eyeshadow brush.

I have a hard time getting rid of anything! 15+ years ago I had much less makeup, but what I had was often high end like Bobbi Brown and Dior. I got a Chanel lipstick for my wedding and finally threw it away after ten years (no, I hadn't used it in five). Interesting what your old brushes were. I wasn't into Mac. I would either go to the drugstore or department store. And Sephora. My oldest brushes are some Sephora brand brushes, purchased one at a time as you described, and later a few Bobbi Brown brushes. Today I enjoy Wayne Goss, Sigma, Real Techniques, My Kitco and (🤦♀️) Sonia G. But I don't have as many as you. So.....what's your next brush purchase? 😉
YES EXACTLY. It’s so difficult to let it go. And OMG I know that I will buy more brushes, but I don’t have any in mind right this second, thankfully.

I have the same issue with brushes! I remember buying Body Shop ones when they were still using animal hair and kept them for way longer than they should have been kept. Now I can’t walk past the brush section at TJ Maxx cause they so often have Smashbox, Sigma, or something else amazing at a bargain price 😂
YES! I think we all keep brushes way longer than we should.
I think eyeshadow and lipliners are the hard ones for me. I'd pretty much only get rid of them if they went bad. ;)
I almost... almost got that way about brushes. But I learned that the fewer I have means the fewer I have to wash, and I hate, haaaaaate washing brushes. So I delucttered down to 30 someodd brushes and instituted a personal rule of one in, one out. It helps me resist sigma sales and any pretty sets. And limits the amount of brushes I have to wash if I've managed to go through all 30+ brushes before I get around to wash day. :)

I REALLY like MODA Brushes overall. They have some fantastic sets and the prices are reasonable, and they are cruelty free and vegan.
