Everything you make here on the sentdex youtube channel always feels so... organic? There isn't an annoying soundtrack with scripted expressions and explainations. Your content really connects at a face to face level instead of throwing dialogue at the viewer. You take the time to explain the nitty-gritty in a digestible way that helps make concepts click. I've been watching your videos for a long time now and you have tought me so much. Thank you for focusing on education as it wonderfully contrasts the channels that focus on entertaining programmers and non-programmers alike without leaving much room for technical explanations or code breakdowns.
These videos are my favourite. I agree 100% that teaching or keeping some sort of blog really does improve your programming skills. I have to say, I've watched a few videos similar to this and this seemed the most honest and genuine, keep them coming Harrison, great job. I think next month when I get some spare time I'll subscribe to +=1 as I really need to improve my Python programming skills for some projects I need to do!
Sentdex, Thanks for making these machine learning, python, tensor flow things videos. Inspirational story man. I know this is a short comment but ... thank you and I look forward to your videos. Great teacher and mentor for us all!
You really inspire us. From a restaurant worker to an entrepreneur and finally to this stage, it is such an inspiring journey. I got your recommendation from a friend and you deserve every praise that he mentioned about your channel. I hope to learn as much as I can from your python treasure.
At my university, 95% of what I have done is in object orientated programming. I'm taking Machine Intelligence this coming semester and I believe that's in Python, but there really hasn't been that much python

About the part of teaching as a way of learning, I completely agree with you. This semester I started attending a big data analysis course(in python) at my university, in which the professor didn't focused much on teaching the language itself. Some of my colleagues asked for my help to learn the basics of Python, and I agreed to make some collective teaching sessions. Best thing I ever done! You just start caring so much about understanding every nook and cranny of the basics and it is such a good feeling when you see your students making progress.
Hey man, i just bumped into your channel this is actually the first video i saw from you. Just wanted to say great job and excellent work you've been doing checked out both of your pages and it is really nice to know how you started and how you basically did it all on your own. Kudos
My two questions are: 1. How has criminology and philosophy helped you in your career, life, aspirations, etc. 2. Why didn't you take the offers to the big companies? What are your thoughts of working in the corporate world?
yl1307 *puffs cigarette* it ain't bout the quantity of the views that makes this channel great, it's about the value he creates and indirectly creates through Jos subscribers where they create value for themselves and other people
His videos are not really that fun. I mean for me who wants to learn python they are cool, but why would anyone who is not a programmer watch them? That's why entertainment videos get the most views.
You know, at 2:25 when you said get off the basics as soon as possible, right there was probably some of the best advice I ever received and I keep telling myself all the time. Thanks sentdex for the videos. Please keep up the awesome work. It is very much appreciated
Thanks for the background info. I have watched your neural network python videos and have learned a lot from them, they are fantastic and I feel I could do a lot with that. I thank you for that, I think it's amazing you didn't go to university to learn this stuff. I just assumed you did which perhaps is silly of me. I myself have taught myself a lot over the years just from Google and through maintaining a keen interest in technology. I'm a self employed computer tech myself and I code games recreationally as I have a lot of spare time and love the process, not in it for the cash but some cash from it might be nice eventually. This video has encouraged me to finish my current game project and try and make an income from it. I'll stay tuned for more interesting coding and AI Vids. I realise you're channel isn't about game Dev 😅 but your entrepreneurial/business advice and coding info is very interesting and relatable.
I get that this is a super old video, but I'm really glad I found your channel! I started looking into Python to facilitate a pet project, and your videos are very clear and easy to follow along with. It's always reassuring to hear from self-taught programmers, because it definitely gives you a feeling like, "I can do that, too."
You seem to have quite a bit on finance and coding to do with trading etc.(which I love btw, keep it coming!), have you tried or do you trade the financial markets at all as well?
Dude, I started watching your channel last week- the same time as getting my feet wet again in programming from years of dormancy (I'm an RN who started out in Comp Sci years ago). i must say, your tutorials are by far the easiest to understand. I chose Python for readability and by far it did not disappoint. I just built a Jupyter notebook using Anaconda and using that Python environment to follow along with your lectures. Looking forward to learning Numpy and Matplotlib! Cheers!!
Sentiment index as Ana pointed out, but I'll still explain it a bit more since it doesn't make sense why this youtube channel is called Sentdex. Thanks for the question!
I've not got any offers from Google yet. It was Apple and Facebook last year. W/ Apple, they reached out, I told them I wasn't very interested, but would hear them out, and that was the end of it. W/ Facebook, the job in question was not an interesting position, it was just your typical software dev position. It would have been a major step down for me in all respects (freedom, salary...etc ) Most jobs you can get from those major companies are nothing special in my eyes. The culture might be awesome, but your actual work, what you do day in and day out, isn't all that great, at least in my eyes. I find running my own businesses to be very rewarding.
The video tutorials are awesome, especially the machine learning and data analysis. Thanks a lot, you are indeed helping a lot of people like me to learn.
That was Great. Especially self employed since age 12, Cool... I have one question. I think it is not that hard too learn the basics of any language, but i don't know how to learn the real stuff. I usually learn fro videos. So do i have to read books to learn the intermediate/advanced stuff? thanks.
Usually when someone says what you did above, "how to learn the real stuff", it indicates you don't know the fundamentals like you think you do. You are aware that the "fundamentals" were designed by the "advanced guys/gals"? You should always be aware of the level of abstraction at which you're working at when solving a task and that, more than anything, will steer you to where you want to go rather than a generic answer saying do x,y,z
Thanks for your suggestion. When I said "The real stuff", I was referring at higher level abstraction. Lately I was developing a web based device monitoring system with Django, and I ran into many problems. I fixed them with the help of "stackoverflow". So what I'm asking is how to be professional on these languages.
Sometimes I come to watch this kind of video when I'm lost to get inspiration. We have too many resources to learn nowadays and sometimes it is hard to decide where to start. But thanks to your words, I found a hint how I can do it. Thanks a lot, you are on my list of people to look up now. :D

My friend what you said about Finance people is amazing. I was one of them myself and I totally agree with you. That's the reason I am looking forward to changing careers.
You produce some first class videos, i'm hooked on your channel. I learnt to program in C, and Google has been a best friend in my journey. You have certainly been an inspiration. Many thanks from the UK
Wow, this video is really truly inspirational. I'm really learning a lot since stumbling upon your channel, I enjoy the tutorials immensely, keep up the good work! I appreciate the fact you don't dumb it down or slow it down, which is great for those who know the fundamentals and want to code something useful. Subscribed!

A Million Thanks! Your video provided a mind blowing realization and a bet that a PhD is not required to produce a comprehensive (and brilliant) review such as SentDex and is also not required to recieve buckets of unsolicited jobs from companies like Apple. Thanks for showing that sticking to a passion really matters!
I'm self taught, and I used some of your content to quickly learn tkinter or whatever I need for my job. I work in GIS and python has helped me get ahead. I agree with google you can learn anything, not just programming. Anyway thanks Sentdex love your stuff.

Nope, if I did, I'd be in a lot of trouble because I am married.
sentdex ah okay I never realised your married. That's really nice!
@sentdex
Now you got job offers, contract offers, and girlfriend offers :)
P.S. Liked how you described finance guys :) Gotta remember that
congrats
Lol
Just came across your channel while looking for pythons and finance. You Sir are a great teacher, and your videos are the bomb! Very useful.
Best youtube channel for learning Python.. you deserve every success.... Thanks man.
This is the best video I've seen so far, explaining what you do for a living and why you do it. Keep doing what you are doing.
My friend what you said about Finance people is amazing. I was one of them myself and I totally agree with you. That's the reason I am looking forward to changing careers.
You produce some first class videos, i'm hooked on your channel. I learnt to program in C, and Google has been a best friend in my journey. I've written some quite complex code, and not yet asked a question, I wan't to create beautiful efficient code, I think its time to reach out and get some criticism, which i'm sure will make me a better programmer. You have certainly been an inspiration. Many thanks from the UK
thank you for all the high quality tutorials. Your channel is my favorite.
Subscribed!
I am going to turn off my ad blocker now when I watch your videos! Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us!
Very inspiring to me. Thanks for loads of motivation.Happy and really enjoy your every video on python. Good luck!!!
I couldn't agree more. Being able to do something you like, you enjoy, you are good at, and which is helpful to others, is just amazing, and it cannot be replaced by all the money in the world. Keep up the good work!
Amazing person .. Thanks for all the information you taught me
That's a big reason I teach what I know I find that teaching someone is just as beneficial to the teacher.
I've been on youtube for as long as youtube was a thing and you're the first ever channel I've subscribed to. Cheers, I hope to learn a lot from you.
Thankyou for your support! Hope you learn lots!
Love your attitude. Keep putting yourself out there.
Hey man - I'm a huge fan. Really appreciating your videos a little extra today. Cheers!
Bravo for you. Thanks for all the help. I wish you great successes

I'm self taught, and I used some of your content to quickly learn tkinter or whatever I need for my job. I work in GIS and python has helped me get ahead. I agree with google you can learn anything, not just programming. Anyway thanks Sentdex love your stuff.
