Stay strong Embiid it will get better. I was diagnosed with bells palsy on new years eve on the right side of my face. I haven't been able to smile and my eye doesn't blink so it definitely is a challenge and tough to deal with people looking at you different.

My friend had the same thing and he was an actor. The condition caused him to lose work opportunities while he had it. He's made a full recovery now though.
My dad has bells palsy. A few months before we knew, he fainted on two different occasions right in front of my mom and I had to call 911. We assumed it was a heat stroke because he also puked and we were outside mid summer. One day he complained of serious pain in his left ear. Then two days later, he woke up with the whole left side of his face drooping. We thought he had a stroke. Now his left eye is permanently lazy and whenever he starts getting too stressed, it will swell a little and it will turn red and run water. His left side never fully recovered to what it was and it's been 6 years. I really hope Joel can get this under a certain amount of control. What bells palsy does to a person can make them so insecure and self conscious. I don't want that to happen to him.
When I was 7 or 8 I was sitting next to this kid who just came back to school from having chicken pox and by the time I got home I was screwed. After I had chicken pox I got sick with Bell's Palsy. The good thing about it, is that it's treatable and if it's just a mild case there shouldn't be any long lasting side effects. Sucks for Embiid tho, especially at this point in time.

I've had Bell's Palsy a few years ago, and dissappeared after 5 months by itself. Half of my face was paralyized, couldn't shut my left eye (even to sleep) need a special eye cover, drooling left side of my mouth, hard to even brush my teeth. I think I had it because of stress. One day, I woke up and it's 90% gone.

It's not a sudden weakness in the muscles It is a sudden but most commonly temporary paralysis of the nerves in one side of your face, and yes typically caused by a viral infection, before someone says you don't know what you're talking about, I do I'm speaking from experience happened to me in the late 90's.

Bells Palsy often goes away relatively quickly, especially in men. It's common in men between 20-30. I'm a bit more nervous when women get it cause it tends to be harder for them to recover from it.
Idk why I never connected those dots but it would make sense that she also had a mild case now that I think about it. People were meming that forever, and she was probably spending months afraid it wouldn’t ever go away…

I had a mild Bell's palsy before. It just goes away after almost 1 month. That's very uncomfortable especially in your eyes. Coz you can't even blink your eyes and that causes irritation. Needed to put eye patch just to make it close while you're asleep and awake

Most of the time it goes away in less than half a year. But, 20% of the time it stays forever. It’s pretty scary. Bc his is definitely mild (severe Bell’s palsy would be his entire one side of his face hanging down and not moving when he talks or tries to drink, etc., which I’m very glad he isn’t going through) I imagine he would be more likely to be in the 80% who fully recovers, but idk that for sure.
It does kind of worry me that he’s playing through a nerve issue when I imagine the stress of playing right now may not help a nerve-related problem, but idk how much less stressed he would physiologically be if he had to watch from the sidelines to be fair.
I feel like this is why he covered his face after Game 2. . Not because he was sad or angry about the loss but because he had cameras directly in his face.

Most of the time it goes away in less than half a year. But, 20% of the time it stays forever. It’s pretty scary. Bc his is definitely mild (severe Bell’s palsy would be his entire one side of his face hanging down and not moving when he talks or tries to drink, etc., which I’m very glad he isn’t going through) I imagine he would be more likely to be in the 80% who fully recovers, but idk that for sure.

It does kind of worry me that he’s playing through a nerve issue when I imagine the stress of playing right now may not help a nerve-related problem, but idk how much less stressed he would physiologically be if he had to watch from the sidelines to be fair.
