I am still amazed at the huge improvement the new retrofit can lights made. I wish I had know about this years ago! And funny thing is...the contractor who's renovating our living room said to me "hey Renee...your can lights are really yellow and outdated. Did you know you can change those easily?" Then he pulled out his phone and showed me what to order on Amazon. I was mind blown! 🤪
I just bought my first home and I'm already trying to copy your dining room light fixture and door wreath. My Irish home will have a serious Paducah vibe ❤
You have a Beautiful House Renee and Randy..... I love watching cool ideas come to LIGHT ...😃👍 Great job.... How's the boys doing?...I bet Pollux and Max are glad for spring to be here..❤️🦴🐾
When I sold my 60 year old house, I did the same thing to my floor vents. It was a large home and they’re expensive so I spray painted them based on a designers recommendation and they were gorgeous…sort of hammered bronze
My son replaced those little lights with the flush ones too. But replaced three fan lights and the kitchen light Very expensive. Repainted all outside lights and pole light. Had to replace about four they were rusted.
Thanks Renee for such a great idea about changing out the ceiling recessed lights! Your house looks great!! Makes ya feel great, a bit of a refresh makes such a huge difference! My hubby might not be too happy with me, as he doesn't like to mess with anything electric!
Hi Christine! Actually....you don't have to deal with electricity when changing out the recessed can lights. You simply unscrew the old light bulb and snap off the outdated ring. The new retrofit lights just screw into the socket and snaps up into the hole. Literally takes less than one minute and no electrical stuff involved 😁
Oh my goodness! What a difference the lights make.😮 Thanks so much Renee for sharing an affordable way to brighten up your place!!! By the way Randy has to get credit for all his help too.😊 I can’t wait to see your living room completed!!!❤❤❤
Nice upgrade! I can tell the difference for sure! And yes I agree with ya on the smoke detector...😉 funny how when u start freshening up older things in ur house, it makes u notice other older things that could use touching up as well..
Loved this video as I have been toying with the idea of changing out some canned lighting. Good to see how easy it would be! From your video the other day, I also bought some pajama's as a gift for a friend. I so appreciate your sharing of ideas...Thank you!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls I already receive the PJ's and they feel wonderful! Probably will order a nightgown for myself...they sent a 10% off next order. 🙂 I ordered a nightgown a while back based on your recommendation and wonder if it's the same company...so soft and ligthweight...think it was made from bamboo, too!
Wow...what a difference! I have always loved the soft white light best. It's bright enough but isn't harsh and lets the true color of things shine forth.
Ya know....I always thought I preferred the soft white (2700k) but once we got the retrofit can lights up and played with the color spectrum, we both like 4000k for the ceiling lighting. It's still soft white but without the yellow tones. I am keeping my lamps at 2700k
Love this Renée. Can you tell me what you use for under your cabinets for lighting. We are always replacing those light bulbs in our puck lites. Thank you. Love following you.
Hi Claudia! When we renovated our kitchen 17 years ago, we had the electrician run wiring for under cabinet lights. So ours are hard wired and I'm not sure of the brand.
Although it would take less time and worries to buy a new one, you can always whiten the smoke detector. There are many videos online where they show you how to do it. Basically they disinstall the mechanism, put a lot of peroxide on its yellowed plastic component ( the peroxide is the one used to mix with hair dyes ), wrap it in plastic and let it in the sun. It gets white. I don't know if I can let you YT links, but if I find one, I will leave it here in one reply.
@@WelcomeToMyCurls To it to make effect they say that the peroxide must be at least of 40 vols, that it must be thoroughly wrapped, and also what makes the effect is the combination of the cream peroxide uniformly spread, the uv rays in the light and heat. They leave the pieces in the sun for several hours, checking the color.
Good choices on the colors, Rene. bathrooms - daylight >5000K kitchen - cool - 4000-5000K living rooms & dining rooms - neutral - 3000-4000K bedrooms - warm - 2700-3000K Hallway lights should be should be set between the 2 areas you are traveling. If the hallway is between your kitchen (4000K) and the family or dining room (3000K) in the hall, the hallway should be 3000-4000K.
You got it! The decorative rim of the old can lights are gripped into the ceiling with a spring clip. Just pop it lose and remove the rim. Then unscrew the lightbulb. The actual “can” remains in the ceiling. Then screw in the bulb attachment on the new retrofit light and secure it into the can using the clips that are already attached to the new light. It’s that simple 😃
@@WelcomeToMyCurls Hi I think didn't explain myself properly. I want to know how to remove the NEW light you just put in, if necessary. Do you just yank it out? Would that damage the clips? Thank you!
This is probably a stupid question, but do the new can lights need to have bulbs replaced? How do you do that? You are lucky your husband is so handy! 😊
@WELCOME TO MY CURLS Hi I think didn't explain myself properly. I want to know how to remove the NEW light you just put in, if necessary. Do you just yank it out? Would that damage the clips? Thank you!
Looks great Renee! We currently have the eyeball looking recessed lights in our living room and kitchen. I love the option of changing the intensity of the light with these. I have a question about the two lights on the table in your foyer. Do you remember where you purchased them? I have been looking everywhere for a set that looks this classy.
Hi Brenda! The recessed light in our bathroom was the "eyeball" style too. You can change it out the same way as the other can lights. The retrofit light set works on any type of light with a can inside. The lamps in my foyer are from HomeGoods. They usually always have lovely glass lamps of various sizes. In fact, I was in there the other day and saw several.
I'm curious about your ceilings. I know you have been doing a lot of remodeling and updating through the years. Do your ceilings bother you. Do you consider them to be popcorn. I've seen a lot of home improvement shows on HGTV, etc. and people see ceilings like these and say they are popcorn. I have the same exact texture on my ceilings and don't consider them to be popcorn but a textured ceiling. I've seen the real old-time chunky popcorn ceilings and I don't consider yours or mine to be that and they don't bother me in the least. So I'm interested in your thoughts. Are you considering having them scraped or are you ok with them.
I do have textured/popcorn ceilings because my house was built 25 years ago...and honestly, I don't mind them one bit! I have several friends with "flat" ceilings and they show every little thing....spiderweb, dirt, bug, water stain, etc. They all regret having flat ceilings. So no...I've never considered changing my ceilings 😊 Plus that process would be a gigantic pain in the booty and a huge mess. No thanks!
Want to look like you don't have a clue about life? Use different color lights in the same space. Unless you have a grow room/sunroom/greenhouse, all the lights should be 3000 kelvin or lower. Higher temperature bulbs look like an office/warehouse. You do you, tho.
