I watched her video and nearly hurt my head ROLLING MY EYES so much. Her “awakening” seemed nothing other than a pivot for her channel content and getting on this minimalist train. I think if you’re a grown ass adult who has the funds to buy what you want then there is no shame on owning luxury.
There are logos everywhere. my car has a logo, my fridge has a logo and my dishwasher has a logo, I don’t see what’s the problem if I have logo in my bag as well 😂
Completely agree with you ! I think the truth is, people like Niki and others who are now renouncing luxury bags (logo or not) got into bag buying in order to be a part of an exclusive club/community, and to get more views in their content, and maybe also to keep up with the joneses. It was not done because of a genuine love for handbags. Because as someone who has always loved handbags, way before I started buying designer, no awakening book can all of a sudden convince me to hate something I've loved my whole life. So what they are denouncing is their own motivations for getting into luxury handbags in the first place. The comment to join her on this journey was bizarre to me, because for me she was never on the same journey as most genuine handbag lovers. The competitiveness comment only confirms her reasons for getting into buying designer handbags in the first place. Just my 2 cents
yes! i never felt she was genuine. i never followed, here and there I would watch some of her stuff. but I never felt she was real and now more than ever. if you really liked all these things how you just switch, sorry but I call bs. the competition comment, i was like no honey. you made it that way.i have never made it that way towards other women. there are some of us that don't see other women as competitors.
💯!! I have LOVED handbags since I was a little girl LONG before I could ever afford or even thought about buying luxury. I love them for what they are. I purchase my luxury bags based on what I like whether that’s brand new or vintage.
I honestly believe that Niki amassed all her things as a direct result of wanting to grow her channel. It wasn't invisible validation that she was after irl, but channel views. She got on an (upward) spiral of buying more and more fashion because otherwise her content would be repetitive and stale, and I really believe that she just reached a point of saturation. It wasn't that the things she owned were bringing or no longer bringing meaning to her life, it was that she saw that what she was doing for her channel wasn't sustainable and so the content direction had to change - of course she won't admit that on video. So she chose a 180 content pivot; keeping within the style niche, but now focusing on decluttering under the guise of "intentional" living. That's why her new videos ring inauthentic, although I do believe that she really did genuinely get overwhelmed with all her stuff and realised that she didn't want all those things, nor the things she would've had to acquire in the future in the name of maintaining views.
I think Niki is missing the fact that some of us were never buying for the reasons she was buying them for. I have loved handbags since I was 2 and have bought and sold way before RUclips was a thing. I buy because I love them. Style does not come into play. I have always enjoyed handbags. My love of bags came from somewhere as a child and has always been there. I have increased my average spending according to my income. I think her video was judgy and assuming that everyone buys because of the reasons she listed. And frankly, I found some of those reasons silly. I could care less what anyone thinks I carry. I buy and carry bags for my pleasure alone. I don’t buy into quiet luxury or loud luxury. I just buy what I love. I enjoy all of you on you tube and like to see reviews so it answers questions on items I’m interested in. Keep posting new stuff. I love it!
I started watching Niki when I was pregnant with my daughter to get pregnancy and PP tips. Namely, to get ideas for how to make the pregnancy and PP easier on myself. While I got the ideas for a Snoo and an Elvie pump from her channel, I observed things about her that seemed off. For example, her overconsumption of everything. She bought multiple expensive baby carriers to match outfits. She bought her infant daughter a closet full of onesies and had Chanel bags as diaper bags. If you look at Niki’s wardrobe for sale, you will see that she reserved prominent logos for her bags. There are multiple fast fashion brands she is getting rid of, such as Zara and Top Shop. In my opinion, people who genuinely care about luxury follow through with that passion regardless of others’ approval. Bottega Venetta and Loro Piano apparel don’t have screaming logos but offer lasting quality and timeliness. I don’t see Niki selling luxury clothes, the category where a brand is indiscernible to the eye of the judging public. She made multiple references in her video to her own content and immediately extrapolated it to the rest of us. When she says “we convince ourselves that bags are investments”, she was really referring to her own videos claiming Chanel and Hermes were “investments “. I don’t know anyone in real life who thinks that designer bags that are produced in mass are “investments”. All the people I know clearly see them for what they are: beautiful objects created for your daily life. Niki comes across as someone who needs to see a therapist for her going from one extreme to another and talking as she is a part of some cult. On the side note, she is turning her content around to use her children to peddle clothes. She plugs her daughter everywhere: unboxing new clothes, trying them on and modeling them. I have a toddler and I would never ever peddle her all over the internet like this to sell useless stuff. She is almost the same age as Niki’s and can’t give her explicit consent to model and be featured all over RUclips and Instagram. So Niki still very much promotes consumerism. She is just pivoting her content from one extreme (overconsumption, fast fashion labels, buy and sell cycles, overt logos) to another (sell children’s clothing and a wholesome mom image, wellness and lifestyle products). But it’s all about getting the audience to click on the affiliate links and getting them to buy. If you want to watch genuine luxury lovers, this channel is the best. And also IloveGPS.
The investment part, yes! When I was a kid watching Style with Elsa Klensch did I ever look at any of it and think, I’m going to invest my money in those things for 10/20 years down the road to make money. The resale market is ridiculous. So many random things get resold at a not worth it price. - I also have a toddler and I was making videos when I was pregnant, mostly for my friends since I moved to another state, and I thought, I don’t want to make videos with my child. I want my child to have a childhood. My friends are always saying he should be a model or on tv but I don’t want to do that to him. If when he’s a bit older he’s interested I’ll support that but I make money for US not him helping me make money.
In another words she’s admitting she bought these luxury items for pressure and didn’t really like them 🙄 I find this such BS. I can read 100 books and none will make me change my mind about luxury. I guarantee in a few months she will post an unboxing saying how much she missed that bag 🤣
I agree if you enjoy it why discourage others. It’s something fun and shopping in my opinion should be fun. I also really enjoy gift giving probably as much as receiving.
Having my mother in law’s and grandmother in law’s jewelry since their gone is such a comfort to me when I wear them because it feels like they’re still with me.
Think there’s a difference between someone curbing their spending and literally selling everything they own. Very extreme and I hope it doesn’t become a regret. Suspect it might.
Let’s be clear. She was likely able to purchase bags from influencing people to purchase things through affiliate links. Now, she needs to influence people through another mode. I’m guessing it will be quite luxury and (cringe) minimalism. If she really wanted to quit her purchasing she could have just quietly done so but she needs to have clicks and views.
I love this Amelia! I love that you talked about the supportive people in this community! I genuinely feel happy for people when they reach achievements and share unboxings that are special for them. It's lovely seeing someone excited. There is so much in life that is ugly and we could be sad over, to share in someone else's joy (no matter what it has to do with) is part of the human experience! I feel no need to get rid of what I have to prove anything. If it's not working out, or needing to do so for financial or life reasons, that's a different thing. I absolutely agree to enjoy what you have, or to get rid of your things and enjoy that, either choice is not better, just different. I support anyone's personal choice as to what works for them. Thanks for talking about this.
I watched the first 5 mins of Niki’s video, I used to watch her a lot but I found that as she had her children her content changed away from what I was interested in. She has/had such a gift for styling, she’s been through a huge change in her life over the past several years and her ‘awakening’ is probably a share of her experience in this community which is so different to mine and yours. I think that the inherent risk with making a living from ‘doing something you love’ is that you no longer love it- it changes its contribution to your life. I’m grateful we have friendships and our pieces and the connections they bring us at our stage on YT - that’s all I want from it 🥰
Couldn’t agree more. It’s insulting to intelligent professional people who are able to make their own decisions. It’s doing us a disservice. I did have to smile when I saw these items are for sale! I know she said it was her own feelings but it came across as judgemental to me. It’s like she has seen the light and the rest of us have just not realised yet! I also wonder why she has only mentioned logos! Does that mean any quiet luxury pieces are ok? Ok to spend but not on something with a logo? I also watched as it came up on my feed but I wished I hadn’t. It’s better for me not to consume this type of content x fab video my love. And yes… there is no competition. We love each other very much. We celebrate each other and that’s how it should be. The luxury space is much more welcoming about these things than anyone else in my world x
100% agree. I didn’t know Niki until these videos popped up. I also found there was an underlying judgemental tone- yes, the herd comment. She seems to have attributed too much power and place of importance to her luxury items so maybe she is better off without them, although you really have to question someone who goes from one extreme to the other… is it a comment on self- awareness/ confidence? …regardless, I buy what I can afford and enjoy it, in a non-competitive way, without letting it define me or my life Lol Great video Amelia. Staying tuned for the next wave of everyone who regrets these radical decisions 😊
Her video shows that she never loved those items before but she only copied others which is quite pathetic ! If you truly love handbags and have the passion you would at least keep one even if you are broke ! But to get rid of everything that means they never meant anything for u ! She was not authentic
This!! She doesn’t love the bags, she just followed others. Her content has never been original; her lack of critical thought and authenticity definitely shows.
But that's what she stated, that she was only buying bags for the perceived 'status' and was not being true to herself. I have to think for myself, if the Birkin wasn't so hard to get, or comes with the front logo stamp (or of any luxury bags) didn't come with a visible logo, would I truly desire it as much. The status of the bag is what personally drew me in initially, not the 'quality'.
I keep thinking, I will not buy another bag, but, if I see something I love, I buy it. I do love vintage Luxury. No trends for me, unless, a bag is exceptionally beautiful. Personal taste is important and that should influence whether to buy, collect or sell. I respect other people's choices. Thank you for this video, well said. I don't look at herd mentality or being part of it. If I see someone carrying luxury, I think, she looks lovely using that bag. I too have more than I need, but I have what I love.
Honestly, I’m a bit older and one thing I learned is just to be ourselves. We will never please everyone I watched the video and I didn’t take any of it personally. I don’t mind watching these videos, actually I love them, it’s a perspective even if it’s not entirely how I think. It’s a discussion and I’m all about people being happy with their own decisions in life. I don’t feel insulted or triggered by any of it. I’m very grounded and I am a luxury lover with logos or without logos, I love it all! Styling my bags, my jewelry, my shoes, my clothes really make me happy! Is it all my life, all what I think about? NO!!! Like you said, I don’t see it like mutually exclusive, it’s just a part of me. Gosh life is short and I refuse to not get the best of it! ❤ If someone else has an other vision, so be it, I’ll be happy for you! I don’t have a RUclips Channel, but I’m getting invited to some events and gosh, the people there are so welcoming, fun, interesting to talk to! I don’t feel any competition, I can totally be myself, I say it as it is and they do the same. It’s wonderful!
Harsh truth time. She has replaced the ‘cool fashionista’ identity with the ‘awakened earth mother’ one. She does neither authentically, so disillusionment is inevitable after this latest phase too.
I think its just another trend that some youtubers hop into. TBH, I see it as an insecurities around the current "old money quite luxe" thing and pressure to be that. I also read many other comments abt whether she could sell her opulent lifestyle (extravagant houses, cars, etc) cuz i dont think so. Always remember trend is cyclical, remeber the logo mania was the return of the 90s and early 2000s. That's why i started to unsubsribe from some influencers who "suddenly" become minimalist and kinda look down on how they used to be. I only follow who are true to themselves. Buy what u love, and not simply because of trends and influences. Keep the things that u love. It will definitely be in trend again in the future, it always is. Cheers
I think I agree with Niki in a sense that she is talking about something bigger than just an "awakening." I believe she's talking about a "spiritual awakening." This is something bigger than worldly wants or waking up from worldly wants. It's almost like the world is a snow globe you're holding in your hand, and you're looking at it from the outside and realizing how frivolous, mundane everything is. AND how frivolous and mundane those feelings of "accomplishment" are as well, as an example. Think about that for a moment. She is exploring feelings and thoughts bigger than "accomplishment" "sense of worth" "feeling beautiful" etc. I get where she is coming from. Now, I'm a luxury shopper myself, don't get me wrong. But, I completely understand and respect Niki's perspective.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with nikis new point of view. I actually even find it refreshing that someone who used to consume designer goods can realise how she truly feels about it. I also find you Amelia refreshing from your point of view. I actually find confidant woman refreshing from all the angles
Several ppl took issue with her saying ‘herd’ but I thought Niki was talking about the competition amongst the herd of top luxury influencers. All in all I’m happy Niki is doing her. I’ll keep watching her & purchasing luxury ❤
Also totally agree that being able to pass down my bags to my daughters is fabulous! But it’s insulting to me that someone might think that is the only thing in my world. I show my girls how much I love them, I support them, guide them, always be there for them no matter what as we navigate life together - and one day when I’m no longer here leave them with amazing memories about our life and experiences together. My daughters are fully aware what is important in this world. They also know it’s ok to like whatever they like. We all can make our own choices and as you say one is not mutually exclusive to another. The internet just shows a snippet of our worlds. It’s a shame we have to explain this. X
Passing mine down too and lend them to my girls now and then. Nice that we share a love of these bags. They know how to take care of them and appreciate them. It’s only one of the many things I hope they are inheriting from me.
I think it’s now a trend to go against those people saying they’re done with luxury. It’s perfectly okay to have a realization that this is not your thing. I see much good from it personally.
When I watched that girl's video I felt like she had bought all those things for all the wrong reasons. What I saw was a deeply insecure person that looked for social recognition and in fact never ever really loved those pricy items she amassed. And now she spreads her new found "wisdom" of minimalism and probably believes in that fairytale herself, when in fact, she now decided to go with the trending minimalism flow for the same insecure reasons she joined the luxury route back in the day. In that selling frenzy-awakening-mode she's treating her symptom, not her main problem. It was never about those bags. But she doesn't know that yet. Besides, I found her video and her explanations laughable. Sorry, not sorry. Yes, there are people who suddenly "see the light" in minimalism. But my gut feeling tells me, she is not one of them.
This! I stopped watching Niki’s videos because she just seemed to always follow whatever was trending at the moment. I don’t get the sense that she has a real sense of self; she’s always searching for others’ approval. Her content is boring and never original, and all she did was sell products through sponsors.
I remember the first video of yours I ever watched was when you responded to comments about a video by purseonfleek (Mel) when she vented her frustration with Hermes’ and the way she felt she had been treated. RUclips’s algorithm obviously thought I would enjoy it, which did. I enjoyed it because you discussed it in a rationale and articulate way. You were respectful of Mel and clearly considered all sides of the story and I was impressed with that. There was no judgement by you but also no readiness to be judged either and that continues to be apparent in this video. I appreciate it when we can respect people’s point of view whilst also being unapologetic about what we choose to do. Keep it up!
And it disappoints me when i follow luxury enthusiasts who wake up one day and don’t love what they do anymore. And that’s why i hate that so many people are considered influencers! Because most of them were born out of phases of their lives. It teaches you to get to know yourself!! Because we are watching and being influenced by so many people who don’t know who they are! I just watch for fun and research before making a purchase. I Never get too caught up!
I’ve never watched her video before it popped up on my recommended but I really liked her perspective. She made a lot of great points and I agree with a lot of what she said. I think influencers definitely fall into the rat race and compare themselves to others and it takes a very strong will person to not conform. I love bags and think they are so beautiful but they are not the end all be all for me. A lot of people use shopping to avoid dealing with their own traumas and issues and I think for her she used bags to deal with hers.
Thank you ❤ as a marketer, I must add it’s all about yt trends at the moment. Consumption has decreased, people feel financial burden and can’t afford to splurge opting out of luxury content. It’s a business decision on her end (as on Anna’s as well). I just hate influencers for lying about that
Not me getting teary-eyed hearing you talk about how happy Jerusha was for you when you got your Birkin! These perimenopause hormones are something else! 😂 So, to the point, I’ve never met anyone who was competitive about bags. When I meet another handbag junky, I’m just so freaking excited to talk bags and share what we’re wearing. I think many of us are in the position of not having close friends or family who are into bags as much as we are, which is why RUclips is such a haven. Any pressure to own more and/or own unique in order to compete is, I believe, ultimately self-inflicted for the person who feels that way. The RUclipsrs I love and stay with are those whose personalities I enjoy, not those who have the biggest collections- so, I watch you, Dale, Cassie Thorpe, Jessie Style, and Steph from Handbagholic.
When I started buying luxury I was caught in the herd 😂 where I want the newest hottest bags , I think we all had that moment, but now I’m getting better I know what I like and what works for me! I do want to declutter a bit more, but not to the point to sell all over them, like what you said I buy them for me, never because of others❤
I love what Niki is doing. She has changed her perspective in life. And now knows that all that stuff doesn’t make her happy. Her video is her personal feelings. ❤
I Loved Nikki’s video because it really touches upon growth and evolution for her as a mom ❤ I respect her doing something about what she really feels within. I love her love for beautiful things and bags and outfits and her overall style…. If anything we can just support her on her newfound journey and just hope she holds on to at least one Chanel flap from her collection!! 😂😂❤❤
Agree with the point that women are not necessarily competing against each other with designer Bags! If anything, we can all relate to each other, based on how something as simple as a handbag can give us so much joy (and we love it). I learn so much from other fellow you tubers and their experiences with bags and it has honestly become a really positive way to connect with other youtubers and subscribers! Handbags are only a small part of our lives and perhaps we will all move onto something else in the future but for now I’m happy to stay in my luxury bubble 😂❤
You hit the nail on the head and articulated your points so well. I think if someone feels validated by luxury or that they are in the company of those with toxic tendencies to compete and knock people down, they need to get away from that environment and also suggest as you say, their own personal experience. There’s no reason why you should do that as your experiences have been the opposite. It’s all subjective and the crux is, if you’re buying luxury for any other reason than the fact you love the item, then you’re doing it for the wrong reason!
There was definitely a trend especially during the pandemic of having a lux handbag collection. It was all over tiktok and felt like everyone was collecting. I do think some people were buying to follow the trend rather than for the love of the bags. Listening to you I think you have bags because you love them. Not all people buy bags because they love them but to keep up with what they’re seeing online. I don’t think the video was intended for people like us who love the bag not the logo. Ive beaten myself up in the past for my love of bags. I have been guilty for over spending. Impulse buying. I am now being more thoughtful and cutting back but Ive excepted handbags are part of my personality and what brings me pleasure. I have a genuine appreciation and love for them. My collection isnt going anywhere. Ive got 10 handbags on the shelving in my living room. To me they’re beautiful, I love looking at them, they being me joy and as well as that the colours actually match my living room decor. Almost all of them have never left the house and wont be doing anytime soon either. They’re heart shaped, glittery and beautiful bags. I see them no different from the art work on my walls. When I buy a bag there are ones I buy with the intention to wear, the intention to just look at and the intention for it to do both.
Again I loved your perspective on this subject. I absolutely Love your videos and the insight you give into why you buy and what you love. I own a few bags, I love jewelry more. So interesting the language and wording used. Thank you for being You!
Cannot agree with you MORE! It’s almost ironic she described others as a herd when technically she is no different from the rest, seeming to follow this new trend of ditching luxury for “minimalism”. And depicting how “luxury is over.” It’s huge right now. It’s a trend. And that’s okay. But she’s also following a current trend. Maybe it’s just me but it feels like she’s getting ready to try and sell her following some sort of new lifestyle content. But that doesn’t make everyone else a herd. Herd is very insulting. Like we’re animals or something. The competitive nature is something that was weird to me as well. I’m excited seeing other people’s collections. It’s never jealous, it’s never a competition. It is more like a community. We all get to share what is in our collection and we get to see our different styles. I’m glad to uplift all of my luxury ladies. I love making these RUclips videos sharing my stuff and seeing other people who might love the same things❤. It’s wonderful. I’ve always loved purses since I was a little girl. I still have every coach bag my mom ever gifted me when I was 6-10 years old! It’s just a passion, a hobby. They’re sentimental.
I think this topic has so many facets to it, so many perspectives. Not only do the reasons differ from person to person on why they are buying luxury, but the same person can change their mind during their life about luxury. I went through periods where I didn’t particularly care for my luxury items and actually packed them away, and when I dusted them off and displayed them again and enjoyed them. However, my cousin told me once and I never forgot it, that she is so happy that she changed her environment so that she doesn’t need to buy luxury anymore to fit in. The good thing that might come out of Niki’s video is triggering people to self reflect on their motives. So I think, examine yourself and if ur happy with what ur doing/buying then you do you 😊
Thank you for making this video! Completely agree with you and I certainly feel proud to have the bags I am able to now afford that I could only dream of years ago :) I also love a logo and do not believe a logo means a person does not have personal style
This is interesting and I enjoyed this video . I own alot of a bags from the brands . I have a real Hermes and a ‘fake’ hermes kelly. The Kelly I took with me to hermes once and the sell’s representative thought it was real so did the customer near me . I let them know it was not from the hermes brand lol. The customer wanted to know where I bought it *suluxs* so she could get one like it lol. Honestly I was not embarrassed about it but was amused that everyone thought it was real . :)
After reading the comments I’m glad I have no idea who Niki Sky is. Never heard of her, never seen one of her videos, and am certainly not going to start now. It’s kind of interesting how these trends in social media crop up: we’ve gone from fast fashion hauls to luxury hauls to “let’s get rid of everything.” I’m not into hauls and I love what I intentionally spend my money on - I don’t make frivolous purchases for the sake of them so I don’t feel the need to get rid of anything. If you fall down the rabbit hole of “needing” everything because you were caught in a trend, I kind of understand having a lightbulb moment when you realise that buying stuff isn’t the be all and end all that social media made it out to be. With that in mind, perhaps it’s not surprising so many “influencers” have started decluttering. Thanks for staying true to yourself Amelia. Buy what you love, keep what you love - buying what makes us happy is not a trend. This is who we are. Having that piece of mind is much more satisfying than jumping on every social media bandwagon trying to fit in.
Excellent point on her well chosen words/script. Also the music had the intention of eliciting an emotional response. It was a well orchestrated production. But I still love handbags and will keep buying and enjoying luxury logo handbags 😊
I don’t really know or watch Niki and most of the other ones also doing this kind of video, but two things spring to mind. Isn’t she still following the herd as the trend is now to turn away from luxury and that is getting the views - what comes after this I wonder? And also are these influencers quite young with their lives very much wrapped up in social media? Has it all come too much and too soon for them, and they haven’t really worked out who they are yet and what is really important in life? I feel that many of us who couldn’t afford these things when we were younger, (much younger as we are still young! 😊), spent our time building our families and careers away from social media, and getting to grips with who we are and what is really important to us. Now that we are fortunate enough to afford luxury bags, we are enjoying them because we worked hard for them and appreciate them - but given that we have already figured out our priorities in life, they are just the icing on the cake, rather than what defines us and is most important to us??!! And in turn we appreciate that in each other, and are therefore not competitive, we’re just genuinely happy for each other when we make a new purchase and supportive of each others channels! 🤔💕
I was waiting for your video with your input on this… drinking my coffee while watching. I’m not having any awakening either, I enjoy my handbags and I’m not trying to show off or compete with any other women. I love luxury and that doesn’t make me a bad person or an empty person. One thing has nothing to do with the other.
Also… loving luxury items or designer items dont define me as a person, that is just a little part of who I am. Thanks for the video! Enjoyed it as usual!
There’s space here for multiple content creators and lots of voices. I gravitate to those who feel similarly to me but I appreciate that there are influencers for everyone in this space. I just don’t follow those who I don’t enjoy their content. Simple. I want to see bags and hear what others think of them before I spend my money. Thank you for doing that-keep it coming!
Exactly 🙌🏼and yes to each their own….but having luxuary is not herd mentality but so much more to an individual’s wants and needs…I will always aspire and work toward getting my next bag and enjoying my mom’s luxuary items and my own that I work hard to get, it is a well Loved collection❤
My comment about this from another video: I think people should do what they want, of course. But a lot of this “awakening” does seem to happen to those who already got their Birkin, Chanel classic flap and minis, LV Capucines, and Lady Dior. And then, because their own “journey” through the luxury space hasn’t gotten them the recognition/support/validation they sought, now the rest of us who haven’t arrived yet are suddenly suffering from consumerism. It’s very judgmental and hypocritical, in my opinion.
Amelia You brought up very valid points. Im glad you choose not to advertise your children/ family. Privacy is important especially in this crazy world. Yes, having a family life and enjoying luxury are not mutually exclusive. If Nikki is trying to say she had luxury only and not time for her kids then, yes she was off balance and her priorities were not in the right place I tried to watch Nikki’s video and i couldn’t finish. I don’t know her, never watched her videos before but in my opinion she looked fake. Agree video was scripted She didn’t even look happy when talking If she is surrounded by materialistic people she should purge those people from her life and not the poor handbags lol. She was obviously talking about herself, her likes and dislikes since she admitted she bought luxury for the wrong purpose then why should I believe she is getting rid of luxury for the right one? Agree logos don’t make us or break us. There’s a time and place for everything. Thank you for the video Amelia ❤
I'm not sure it occurred to anyone that the influencer who made that video lives in the most expensive city in Canada where the economy is in serious trouble and many people are facing real financial issues upon renewal of their mortgages. I don't know how she makes her money but there is a real chance her sudden change in mentality is inspired more by actual economic need rather than some come to Jesus moment over consumerism.
@@ameliarosescloset It's wild here right now, groceries are astronomical, gas just went up to almost $8 a gallon and people renewing mortgages are looking at triple the interest rate or more. The new federal budget was released and with nearly 50 billion in deficit spending inflation isn't likely to slow any time soon. Also the prices of those bags would put her on the hook for the new higher capital gains tax if she sells them after it is implemented so it could definitely be a strategic financial decision.
NO. While all that may be true, this had nothing to do with not being able to afford her lifestyle; she’s far from broke. This is definitely a way to make a sweeping change to what she wants to do with her channel. She’ll still be SELLING viewers unnecessary things. Just a different approach & type of “things”..just wait. No way she’s giving up her influencer income it’ll just be different “things” than the old way.
I was looking forward to this as I knew we would express our views very differently! Very interesting you feel her video was scripted. Loved your point of view! I was sick when I watched her video and I made notes but I missed the heard comment. I watched it again when I was feeling better and I do think it is demeaning but I personally do not take any offense as I know who I am and why I buy. I also think there is a lot of support and happiness for each other in the luxury community. Competing is for sports not luxury. I am sure you and your friend group get accused of that as me and my best friend did. We supported each other, it is possible for women to support women.
I wondered what you would think! When i watched your video, i thought you were a lot nicer than i was! You were so measured. I did find some of the language very negative . It took me a long time to be comfortable with who i am and what i like to buy, when i watch these videos i think of how i used to feel, and how this could be making others feel like i did. I'm now comfortable with loving luxury bags, but for a long time i felt very guilty as i come for a difficult financial background. I also think some of the language had negative connotations.
I am glad you made this video from a true luxury bag lover’s perspective. I don’t understand how someone can completely changed her mind about fashion after reading a book and selling her entire collection. But I respect her decision. My bags are staying with me and I’ll continue to buy what I like as well.
I’m 52. I’ve been buying luxury handbags and shoes for over 30 years. I buy it because I enjoy it. It makes me feel good. There was no social media (or cell phones) when I first started buying luxury. I mainly bought Prada and LV, some Gucci (Tom Ford era). I’m not getting rid of my collection. I love looking at it and carrying/wearing it.
Long time lurker here 😅 this is such a nice video, I’m part of a few RUclips communities on here & this topic comes up in all the communities at some point, quite often because someone has found a new specific interest then over spent as they join & become part of that community & get overwhelmed & then declutters, at best they want to educate you about their choices which is absolutely fine we all want to share thats the beauty of community surely, at worst like (it seems like this lady Niki Sky) you need to be educated about why this is all wrong & you must change your ways & here’s a whole series of sponsored RUclips content from me to help you or at least an hour long lecture on why you’re wrong & they are right, it’s deeply frustrating & can cause real rifts.
I can't watch her video (I don't want to give it my view) but I've watched a few reactions and I feel the same way I did last time you talked about something similar. If it's taken you this long (20s or later) to realize that material things and outside validation are not actually important, it sounds like you've led a bit of a sad life until this point.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on it. I did watch her video. She mentioned the birkin 35. All I could think about while hearing her was that she bought it for the absolute wrong reason. I truly felt sad thereafter because there was some sort of transparency revealed (from my perspective) that it was something she never deeply wanted. 😣🙁 I don’t really watch her so perhaps it was a sought after piece for her at one point and it didn’t work out how she thought. Or maybe she is more of a shoulder bag girlie. I truly don’t know but that’s how I felt about that video. 😞
I watch your channel bc of your unique bags. Bags I didn't even know existed. I don't feel the need to compete with anyone or ever feel pressured to buy, bc I know what I can afford and what I cannot. ❤
I’m in a new phase of life with new future goals. I no longer buy luxury goods. But I still have my collection intact and occasionally enjoy them. I will not sell because I can’t justify what they currently cost now.
Thank you, Amelia, for sharing your honest thoughts about owning beautiful designer handbags. Like you, I love all of my beautiful handbags. Now, if that means you, myself, and many other handbag lovers are in the same "herd," I think I'm in good company! I appreciate your insight and honest commentary on the "It's All a Lie," video. Again, many thanks. Take care!
Totally agree with what you are saying❤. I’d also like to add this topic is exactly the reason why you should buy for your own reasons and not for what these influencers tell you. It is to be considered some of the things they say is purely for show and views. In other words it is full of smoke and mirrors.
I think a lot of these people are doing the “quiet luxury “ thing now, it’s just a trend. Most of the channels I follow aren’t million subscriber channels, I like the opinions of the smaller not so much trying to be an influencer but real people who also make video channels. I can’t afford these bags but I like to watch people talk about them because they love them and the color and style they have. You’re one of them, your videos are enjoyable and a small escape. I don’t have a life style to wear these kind of bags so it doesn’t make sense for me to have as many as you but I don’t mind living vicariously through you and 😊.
Omg i watched her last video and i just rolled my eyes lol especially when shes like oh im not talking down on anyone! Yeah ok. I respect her journey but theres definitely a tone of superiority and mom shaming lol.
I agree with your points. Everyone has a different journey and like you said no one is better than the other. I also agree about the competitive idea, I haven’t noticed or felt it in the luxury community in RUclips. It makes me happy to see bloggers collaborating and supporting each other. I have bags with logos and some without. I think more about how they suit my style and I definitely dont do it for others. I love fashion since I was a little girl. It was only later on in life that I could afford designer handbags. Life is short, do what makes you happy! I don’t think many people notice or really care, and that’s great!
I agree, it sounds to me she had the completely wrong intentions with her purchases. I see bags as Art - wearable art. They evoke positive emotions when I see, feel and wear them. This can be with my luxury and contemporary bags.
Seriously, nobody forcing you to change your habits, Niki was just talking about her feelings, her experience and all you are trying to do is to defend your spending money on luxury items! Nobody cares what you do, its personal and its not your job to judge anybody else if this person going in a different direction and don't want to be a walking advertisement for luxury items with logos all over them!
I have loved bags since I was a little girl. I collect them bc it’s a genuine interest. I have bags from thrift stores all the way up to the highest luxury designers. It isn’t about impressing other people or gaining a following; it’s about appreciating beauty and expressing myself. I’ve never heard of this influencer, but to each their own. It sounds like she never had an authentic interest in bags to begin with.
I don’t consume many creators for whom RUclips is a career for the simple reason that it is their job to sell a lifestyle. Clearly there has been some sort of shift in their data telling them that luxury is not selling like it had been previously. So they need to shift gears and find other ways to attract viewers. Perhaps quiet luxury is a calculated phenomenon and the idea is marketing to people who can’t or don’t want to spend as much in the current economic climate as they had been. The shift away from luxury for some of these content creators may absolutely be authentic, but my suspicion is that it’s good business. This is primarily why I stick to smaller creators who do this for fun because they sincerely have a love for it, not because they are dependent on views and clicks to make a living. Lux is fun! Obviously it’s not a substitute for a well lived life. I can see though, how if one does this for a living, it does actually define their life and at some point, they may need a change. Just keep doing you Amelia! There’s plenty of room for everyone’s opinion, as you said!
I think you do what makes you happy. If that’s having or not having things. I’ve definitely become less eager to spend so much money on bags but still enjoy what I have and looking at other people’s!
Is she broke now? I don't understand selling everything unless you're going through a financial hardship. I dont know really of anyone unless you're ultra wealthy that cab afford buying luxury goods all the time. Times are hard right now, we would understand but don't pretend like you're turning over a new leaf. Just my opinion.
Thank you for your video and your channel. I personally think that when you buy for the wrong reasons you don’t know it in that moment. It is a reflection and a process that takes time and we can’t accelerate it. There is not one way to live our life and we simply have to respect ourselves and others no matter how different we are.
I know she said if we truly loved bags that we should do our own thing but I did feel a bit shamed. Is something wrong with me that I do get joy out of carrying a designer bag? I’m carrying my Dior D lite bag today and love just looking at it and think it’s a work of art. I enjoy owning something so beautiful. I don’t want to feel embarrassed or ashamed about it.
See the thing about shaming. Over used word in my opinion is if you feel shame that’s on you no one else. It’s really someone’s opinion that they are giving what you do with it is on you. If you embarrassed caring a Chanel bag or Louis Vuitton, then don’t. It’s not you. Carry something your not embarrassed to carry.
@@katemiller7874 well I’m still going to carry them because even if I fell embarrassed a bit, the joy I feel overrides it. But I appreciate your comment.
I respectfully think your choice not to put your children on RUclips is better than her decision to plaster them everywhere. If she’s so enlightened, she should know this. In addition, why can’t we just like pretty bags without elevating them to a second form of religion? Everyone (besides you and a handful of others) admits this is all just “stuff”. Wonderful and insightful video full of authenticity. God bless ❤
It’s just a lesson to buy what you love. Luxury or not. Her video was a bit dramatic. Influencers get bored, follow trends, move to the next thing. I still love luxury but I did have to have a heart ti heart with myself like ok- you don’t go out that much! lol So do i really need a million bags? Absolutely not. So I purged my closet but I still kept what I absolutely loved. I also still buy but I’m careful to see how it will fit my closet and my realistic non influencer life
long ago i felt she was not genuine after seeing some videos here and there. these recent videos made me realize my gut was right. she pushed all these things on people and is now awakened to not. all these things she bought to compete/keep up, she was never real and all of this was fake for views. so now she is moving to this new content that will get views. She made all the competition, because most of us aren' like that. we support and enable one another lol. one thing I noticed, she has over 560k subs however her videos hit 30k+ views. which again leads me to believe she's making the switch for views because people have stopped shopping and are getting real with how expensive things are.
Yeah people change, their priorities change. My mindset changed a LOT during the plague. I realized how little I actually need. It was still hard to get out of the "hunter/collector" habit though. It took time and it took introspection. I've sold many things I had. Bags, clothes, watches, shoes... I do still have a lot of stuff. I love what I kept with a passion. I will never be a minimalist. Ever. But, even my husband noticed how few packages were arriving and how many more were going out in comparison😅 I hope everyone who loves their things has them for the right reasons.
Now that the prices have climbed there are more and more “awakenings” as much as some of these RUclipsrs try to come of as genuine the seem lost. Thanks for staying true with who you are and enjoying your joy
I love the clothing and bags I got from my mom. It’s not expensive designer things, just cool vintage items. It’s so much fun to think of her my age and younger wearing them. Nothing wrong with passing things down and yes, not mutually exclusive with making other memories
Thank you for making this video and not being afraid to tastefully and without malicious intent share your point of view. Ill say that Niki is probably not in the same "community" we share which is why she probably feels a lot of competitive pressure. Yourself, Marideth, Dayle and countless others are real working women and your soul income doesn't come from influincing, its not your job. You do this because you love it and not because you want it to be your career. Niki, probably felt a lot of pressure to buy to stay relevant in her space because that was her "business" which is maybe why she had a negative experiance. Just my opinion. As a side note, I also thought it was funny when she was selling the bags she was "freeing herself from" why not donate them to a charity or give them away. Not saying she had to, i just thought it was funny. Love your channel!
NIki Sky at no point in her video tried to convince anyone. In fact she repeatedly made a point of saying that it is perfectly fine to have loads of designer handbags if that is what makes you happy. She made a point of saying this was HER story. So I did not feel she was judging anyone. Beiing happy is what we all want isnt it, so sell your bags or keep them and enjoy what you are doing is the credo I would say 🥰
I agree with everything that you have said. Also I agree that the community is fabulous and supportive not at all competitive. At the end of the day just do you x
Interestingly, while I watched her video I thought of your channel as you’re someone who has a massive collection of bags. I don’t actually subscribe to either of you, but the algorithm picks it up. Both of you are right and both of you are wrong. She’s swinging from one extreme to another while you’ve stayed on one extreme. In my opinion, the years of coveting expensive items are over. These bags aren’t really worth their escalating price tags and in a time where we’re all getting major reality checks, a lot of people are realising that chasing material items is not the answer to happiness. Social media is incredibly powerful in terms of making people feel like they constantly need something new and more relevant. I truly believe we were all happier when we didn’t see what everyone else was buying all the time.
There is too much to comment on so I’ll just comment on this I don’t feel like there is a competition in the luxury world. I think the majority of us are excited for each other when someone else is able to get something they love. We get excited with them.
I watched her video and nearly hurt my head ROLLING MY EYES so much. Her “awakening” seemed nothing other than a pivot for her channel content and getting on this minimalist train. I think if you’re a grown ass adult who has the funds to buy what you want then there is no shame on owning luxury.
I agree - it’s almost a bit embarrassing to watch
Lol! I love a good eye roll!
I concur 😑
@@ameliarosescloset lol
@@Justme-x4h The point is most of us feel this is just a show from her. If like say, Eileen, its a real thing, its usually quite apparant.
There are logos everywhere. my car has a logo, my fridge has a logo and my dishwasher has a logo, I don’t see what’s the problem if I have logo in my bag as well 😂
Oh this is so true!
There is nothing wrong with logos in form of gentle metal things. It is opposite with clothing banners.
This is such a great point! Why are the handbags the focus of this “awakening”?
I agree with you ❤
@@TheSharna23 Because she can sell them.
This was so insightful, thank you
Good point!
yes! i never felt she was genuine. i never followed, here and there I would watch some of her stuff. but I never felt she was real and now more than ever. if you really liked all these things how you just switch, sorry but I call bs. the competition comment, i was like no honey. you made it that way.i have never made it that way towards other women. there are some of us that don't see other women as competitors.
I love it!
I love this comment x
Thank you so much, the comment was so well followed through and insightful
She does need therapy; "all or nothing thinking" is a big red flag.
Best comment 😊
Anyone that is irritated by her video is clearly struggling with their shopping addiction and can’t find the b alls to do what she’s doing.
In another words she’s admitting she bought these luxury items for pressure and didn’t really like them 🙄 I find this such BS. I can read 100 books and none will make me change my mind about luxury. I guarantee in a few months she will post an unboxing saying how much she missed that bag 🤣
I've read a lot of books and personally it hasn't changed my mind
Anyone that is irritated by her video is clearly struggling with their shopping addiction and can’t find the b alls to do what she’s doing.
@@BlackBeauty-yl8uq I buy one bag a year, if that qualifies being an addict than Iam 😎😎😎😎 and I don’t plan going to rehab 🤣
I love this and i imagine it is a lovely feeling, that having been passed down.
Think there’s a difference between someone curbing their spending and literally selling everything they own. Very extreme and I hope it doesn’t become a regret. Suspect it might.
It certainly is extreme
Let’s be clear. She was likely able to purchase bags from influencing people to purchase things through affiliate links.
Now, she needs to influence people through another mode. I’m guessing it will be quite luxury and (cringe) minimalism.
If she really wanted to quit her purchasing she could have just quietly done so but she needs to have clicks and views.
An influencer of her size will definitely have done well from affiliates
Confidence is confidence. A collection is a process. Art is art, value is subjective - beauty is beauty 💖
Love that!
I love this comment, thank you
I watched the first 5 mins of Niki’s video, I used to watch her a lot but I found that as she had her children her content changed away from what I was interested in.
I’m grateful we have friendships and our pieces and the connections they bring us at our stage on YT - that’s all I want from it 🥰
Absolutely, i guess at a very high influencer level it is maybe competitive in a way we never experience with each other
Couldn’t agree more.
I have felt so supported on here, maybe we got lucky with the tribe! And i agree we can make our own decisions
@@ameliarosescloset maybe we did get lucky with the tribe but I think we reap what we sow x
…regardless, I buy what I can afford and enjoy it, in a non-competitive way, without letting it define me or my life Lol
Great video Amelia.
Staying tuned for the next wave of everyone who regrets these radical decisions 😊
I give her 8 months before she starts her own line of “quiet luxury” bags😂😭
@@eliser2417oh yes! I thought about it also!!!
Her video shows that she never loved those items before but she only copied others which is quite pathetic ! If you truly love handbags and have the passion you would at least keep one even if you are broke ! But to get rid of everything that means they never meant anything for u ! She was not authentic
Good point, i couldn't imagine getting rid of all of mine
@@ameliarosescloset same here .
The status of the bag is what personally drew me in initially, not the 'quality'.
right, she was buying for all the wrong reasons.
Then next year when luxury is “in” they will be buying new bags again. I am happy I was never influenced, I have always loved bags and always will.
Same, always loved them, 13 years of buying luxury bags, i started with shoes before that
I agree, when logos become “trendy” again the pendulum will swing back. I buy what I enjoy and archive pieces when I’m feeling like I need a break.
Me too😊
@@janieralston2638I agree 😊
I keep thinking, I will not buy another bag, but, if I see something I love, I buy it. I do love vintage Luxury. No trends for me, unless, a bag is exceptionally beautiful. Personal taste is important and that should influence whether to buy, collect or sell. I respect other people's choices. Thank you for this video, well said. I don't look at herd mentality or being part of it. If I see someone carrying luxury, I think, she looks lovely using that bag. I too have more than I need, but I have what I love.
I think the same when I see people with fab bags
That's how i have found it as well, it's been the best craic!
Harsh truth time. She has replaced the ‘cool fashionista’ identity with the ‘awakened earth mother’ one. She does neither authentically, so disillusionment is inevitable after this latest phase too.
We really just need to be ourselves don't we
I think you nailed it
The lighting on this video is great! In some of your other ones, they are really bright (even when I dim my screen to the max). This one is perfect!
Thank you! I can't figure out what i do differently!
Cheers
Agree 100%
Totally agree with this
I think I agree with Niki in a sense that she is talking about something bigger than just an "awakening." I believe she's talking about a "spiritual awakening." This is something bigger than worldly wants or waking up from worldly wants.
That actually makes a lot of sense
I don’t think there is anything wrong with nikis new point of view. I actually even find it refreshing that someone who used to consume designer goods can realise how she truly feels about it. I also find you Amelia refreshing from your point of view. I actually find confidant woman refreshing from all the angles
Absolutely, there is room for all opinions
Several ppl took issue with her saying ‘herd’ but I thought Niki was talking about the competition amongst the herd of top luxury influencers. All in all I’m happy Niki is doing her. I’ll keep watching her & purchasing luxury ❤
Mmm .. herd maybe wasn't the most complimentary but i do think the level of competition is probably very different at the top
I think most people know that's the case, but I still love that she is also rocking your saddle bag, isn't that just fab!
@@ameliarosescloset Yes! She loves it and I love that she loves it. 😘
You really don’t need to explain. Most people realize this already.
Absolutely, a lot of good can come from buying less
powerful
Niki is full of BS. She made a lot of broad statements. Soon She’ll be influencing others to buy expensive crap that people don’t need on her channel
Be interesting to see where she goes with it
She legit was selling Idyll earrings in one of these awakening videos! I clicked out of that so fast.
gerl lets be real. she's just doing that to get views.
That's another option yes!
I think people do genuinely move on but yes i agree maybe people bought them at a time for something other than really loving them
This comment is SO GOOD. On point!🎯🎯
This! I stopped watching Niki’s videos because she just seemed to always follow whatever was trending at the moment. I don’t get the sense that she has a real sense of self; she’s always searching for others’ approval. Her content is boring and never original, and all she did was sell products through sponsors.
Excellent on point comment. It is about being secure and confident…or not.
100%! Great comment! Very insightful.
Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this comment x
A great take on this topic. I’m working my way up to take my swing at this general topic……I’m just letting it all marinate at this point
I will be watching when you do my friend!
I’m happy the journey is giving her peace I just found it interesting she says she wants to stay away from logos yet has a Van Cleef bracelet on
As did i
And it disappoints me when i follow luxury enthusiasts who wake up one day and don’t love what they do anymore. And that’s why i hate that so many people are considered influencers! Because most of them were born out of phases of their lives. It teaches you to get to know yourself!! Because we are watching and being influenced by so many people who don’t know who they are! I just watch for fun and research before making a purchase. I Never get too caught up!
This is true, you need to know yourself!
So true- know thyself.
I definitely think at her top level of influencer there would be more competition
Yes, that’s what I got from her video.
Thank you ❤ as a marketer, I must add it’s all about yt trends at the moment. Consumption has decreased, people feel financial burden and can’t afford to splurge opting out of luxury content. It’s a business decision on her end (as on Anna’s as well). I just hate influencers for lying about that
Just be honest about it , I agree
The RUclipsrs I love and stay with are those whose personalities I enjoy, not those who have the biggest collections- so, I watch you, Dale, Cassie Thorpe, Jessie Style, and Steph from Handbagholic.
thank you so much!
ps i watch all of those too!
I've done this, but rashly and then slowly figured out what worked for me
I love what Niki is doing. She has changed her perspective in life. And now knows that all that stuff doesn’t make her happy. Her video is her personal feelings. ❤
It is fabulous if she has found what truly makes her happy
I Loved Nikki’s video because it really touches upon growth and evolution for her as a mom ❤ I respect her doing something about what she really feels within. I love her love for beautiful things and bags and outfits and her overall style…. If anything we can just support her on her newfound journey and just hope she holds on to at least one Chanel flap from her collection!! 😂😂❤❤
Absolutely support her journey x
Agree with the point that women are not necessarily competing against each other with designer Bags! If anything, we can all relate to each other, based on how something as simple as a handbag can give us so much joy (and we love it). I learn so much from other fellow you tubers and their experiences with bags and it has honestly become a really positive way to connect with other youtubers and subscribers! Handbags are only a small part of our lives and perhaps we will all move onto something else in the future but for now I’m happy to stay in my luxury bubble 😂❤
I have found such a supportive community with our bags, i guess it's maybe different in that very high influencer circle
Totally agree, if the people in your circle are competing with you and negative, maybe not the best circle
I love the art on your living room walls!
Again I loved your perspective on this subject. I absolutely Love your videos and the insight you give into why you buy and what you love. I own a few bags, I love jewelry more. So interesting the language and wording used. Thank you for being You!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you. I agree the use of the word herd definitely had negative connotations
So I think, examine yourself and if ur happy with what ur doing/buying then you do you 😊
Very true, i'm happy with my choice, thankfully!! But it won't be for everyone
😂LOL, I am not having a handbag awakening either! 😴To each her own.👜🌻
And to us, bags!
Moooooo 🐮 happy to be part of the herd
You and me together!
Love your perspectives. Being true and uplifting. ❤
Thank you so much!
WHY are these people making public announcements? WHY do we have to know?
I guess it's popular content?
Her channel will change now. I’m sure she’s letting people know that. They may or may not tune in.
It is very Assuming! She thinks of herself very highly!
Exactly. Still caught up in influencing and being seen. SMH
Thank you for making this video! Completely agree with you and I certainly feel proud to have the bags I am able to now afford that I could only dream of years ago :) I also love a logo and do not believe a logo means a person does not have personal style
You are so welcome!
It’s kind of interesting how these trends in social media crop up: we’ve gone from fast fashion hauls to luxury hauls to “let’s get rid of everything.”
I’m not into hauls and I love what I intentionally spend my money on - I don’t make frivolous purchases for the sake of them so I don’t feel the need to get rid of anything.
That maybe is one of the downsides of being an actual influencer , i'm sure the constant obtaining of new things becomes overwhelming
Excellent point on her well chosen words/script. Also the music had the intention of eliciting an emotional response. It was a well orchestrated production. But I still love handbags and will keep buying and enjoying luxury logo handbags 😊
It was definitely a well orchestrated video
Oh I love this, this is spot on
I was waiting for your video with your input on this… drinking my coffee while watching. I’m not having any awakening either, I enjoy my handbags and I’m not trying to show off or compete with any other women. I love luxury and that doesn’t make me a bad person or an empty person. One thing has nothing to do with the other.
Absolutely agree 100%
Also… loving luxury items or designer items dont define me as a person, that is just a little part of who I am.
Thanks for the video! Enjoyed it as usual!
There’s space here for multiple content creators and lots of voices. I gravitate to those who feel similarly to me but I appreciate that there are influencers for everyone in this space. I just don’t follow those who I don’t enjoy their content. Simple. I want to see bags and hear what others think of them before I spend my money. Thank you for doing that-keep it coming!
I will, thank you!
Exactly 🙌🏼and yes to each their own….but having luxuary is not herd mentality but so much more to an individual’s wants and needs…I will always aspire and work toward getting my next bag and enjoying my mom’s luxuary items and my own that I work hard to get, it is a well
Loved collection❤
And continue to love them!
Very true. I find minimalism to be more of a herd mentality. There's nothing wrong with it but it is in style and woke now.
My comment about this from another video:
I think people should do what they want, of course.
Yeah i understand this view
Amelia
You brought up very valid points.
Im glad you choose not to advertise your children/ family. Privacy is important especially in this crazy world.
Yes, having a family life and enjoying luxury are not mutually exclusive.
If Nikki is trying to say she had luxury only and not time for her kids then, yes she was off balance and her priorities were not in the right place
I tried to watch Nikki’s video and i couldn’t finish. I don’t know her, never watched her videos before but in my opinion she looked fake. Agree video was scripted
She didn’t even look happy when talking
If she is surrounded by materialistic people she should purge those people from her life and not the poor handbags lol.
She was obviously talking about herself, her likes and dislikes
since she admitted she bought luxury for the wrong purpose then why should I believe she is getting rid of luxury for the right one?
Agree logos don’t make us or break us. There’s a time and place for everything.
Thank you for the video Amelia ❤
Thank you, it felt awkward to watch
I'm not sure it occurred to anyone that the influencer who made that video lives in the most expensive city in Canada where the economy is in serious trouble and many people are facing real financial issues upon renewal of their mortgages. I don't know how she makes her money but there is a real chance her sudden change in mentality is inspired more by actual economic need rather than some come to Jesus moment over consumerism.
Oh i wasn't aware of this, thank you
@@ameliarosescloset It's wild here right now, groceries are astronomical, gas just went up to almost $8 a gallon and people renewing mortgages are looking at triple the interest rate or more.
I so agree , I also feel like she a little offended by her video .
I can't see a book changing me that much either
Love this!
Oh thank you, it makes sense this happens in other niches as well
I am so sick of this topic. Let’s forget about this and let’s continue enjoying what we love best!! Handbags!!!
More handbag love up in the next video, which I really need to get edited for Monday!!
Also love your bags and collection, it always makes me happy to see those beauties and you look fab as always ❤❤
Thank you so much!
I can't watch her video (I don't want to give it my view) but I've watched a few reactions and I feel the same way I did last time you talked about something similar. If it's taken you this long (20s or later) to realize that material things and outside validation are not actually important, it sounds like you've led a bit of a sad life until this point.
Very true, and is that what you thought these things would bring you when you were buying them?
Thank you so much!
I’m in a new phase of life with new future goals. I no longer buy luxury goods. But I still have my collection intact and occasionally enjoy them. I will not sell because I can’t justify what they currently cost now.
yes the prices have gone a little crazy!
Each to their own I’m watching you for a reason ❤
Thank you x
Thank you, Amelia, for sharing your honest thoughts about owning beautiful designer handbags. Like you, I love all of my beautiful handbags. Now, if that means you, myself, and many other handbag lovers are in the same "herd," I think I'm in good company! I appreciate your insight and honest commentary on the "It's All a Lie," video. Again, many thanks. Take care!
Thank you and let's stay in the herd together!
Totally agree with what you are saying❤. I’d also like to add this topic is exactly the reason why you should buy for your own reasons and not for what these influencers tell you. It is to be considered some of the things they say is purely for show and views. In other words it is full of smoke and mirrors.
This is such a good point and comment
Great video! Finally someone with common sense. I agreed with everything you said.
Thank you so much!
These are the channels i love too
Omg i watched her last video and i just rolled my eyes lol especially when shes like oh im not talking down on anyone! Yeah ok. I respect her journey but theres definitely a tone of superiority and mom shaming lol.
Some of the language did certainly sound like that!
I agree I can’t relate to anything she said ! I really enjoy seeing people enjoy their things even if they’re not things I’d buy ❤
Exactly the same as that x
I agree with your points. Everyone has a different journey and like you said no one is better than the other. I also agree about the competitive idea, I haven’t noticed or felt it in the luxury community in RUclips. It makes me happy to see bloggers collaborating and supporting each other. I have bags with logos and some without. I think more about how they suit my style and I definitely dont do it for others. I love fashion since I was a little girl. It was only later on in life that I could afford designer handbags. Life is short, do what makes you happy! I don’t think many people notice or really care, and that’s great!
Thank you, I totally agreed
I agree, it sounds to me she had the completely wrong intentions with her purchases. I see bags as Art - wearable art. They evoke positive emotions when I see, feel and wear them. This can be with my luxury and contemporary bags.
I agree with this
Seriously, nobody forcing you to change your habits, Niki was just talking about her feelings, her experience and all you are trying to do is to defend your spending money on luxury items! Nobody cares what you do, its personal and its not your job to judge anybody else if this person going in a different direction and don't want to be a walking advertisement for luxury items with logos all over them!
As i said, there is room for all opinions
I have loved bags since I was a little girl. I collect them bc it’s a genuine interest. I have bags from thrift stores all the way up to the highest luxury designers. It isn’t about impressing other people or gaining a following; it’s about appreciating beauty and expressing myself. I’ve never heard of this influencer, but to each their own. It sounds like she never had an authentic interest in bags to begin with.
Your collection sounds amazing!
Actually neither do i, watch many where this is a full time job, i do watch Cassie, i still think she is herself and steph also
I think you do what makes you happy. If that’s having or not having things. I’ve definitely become less eager to spend so much money on bags but still enjoy what I have and looking at other people’s!
I have bought less lately but am loving what i already have more
Is she broke now? I don't understand selling everything unless you're going through a financial hardship. I dont know really of anyone unless you're ultra wealthy that cab afford buying luxury goods all the time. Times are hard right now, we would understand but don't pretend like you're turning over a new leaf. Just my opinion.
Times are hard now for a lot of people
Thank you for your video and your channel. I personally think that when you buy for the wrong reasons you don’t know it in that moment. It is a reflection and a process that takes time and we can’t accelerate it. There is not one way to live our life and we simply have to respect ourselves and others no matter how different we are.
Well said!
Don't feel embarrassed or anything like that! That's a stunning bag and enjoy every second of it! It's beautiful. And i can see how you felt that
See the thing about shaming.
God bless ❤
Thank you so much!
It’s just a lesson to buy what you love. Luxury or not. Her video was a bit dramatic.
Influencers get bored, follow trends, move to the next thing. I still love luxury but I did have to have a heart ti heart with myself like ok- you don’t go out that much! lol
So do i really need a million bags? Absolutely not. So I purged my closet but I still kept what I absolutely loved.
I also still buy but I’m careful to see how it will fit my closet and my realistic non influencer life
Same, i have to remember i have a real life and not a fantasy one!
long ago i felt she was not genuine after seeing some videos here and there. these recent videos made me realize my gut was right. she pushed all these things on people and is now awakened to not. all these things she bought to compete/keep up, she was never real and all of this was fake for views. so now she is moving to this new content that will get views. She made all the competition, because most of us aren' like that. we support and enable one another lol. one thing I noticed, she has over 560k subs however her videos hit 30k+ views. which again leads me to believe she's making the switch for views because people have stopped shopping and are getting real with how expensive things are.
Mmm that's very interesting, i had missed that on the views
Yeah people change, their priorities change. My mindset changed a LOT during the plague. I realized how little I actually need. It was still hard to get out of the "hunter/collector" habit though. It took time and it took introspection. I've sold many things I had. Bags, clothes, watches, shoes... I do still have a lot of stuff. I love what I kept with a passion. I will never be a minimalist. Ever. But, even my husband noticed how few packages were arriving and how many more were going out in comparison😅 I hope everyone who loves their things has them for the right reasons.
Very true, for the right reasons
Now that the prices have climbed there are more and more “awakenings” as much as some of these RUclipsrs try to come of as genuine the seem lost. Thanks for staying true with who you are and enjoying your joy
Oh that's interesting !
Yes funny about that! And will they find themselves again when the economy settles?
I love the clothing and bags I got from my mom. It’s not expensive designer things, just cool vintage items. It’s so much fun to think of her my age and younger wearing them. Nothing wrong with passing things down and yes, not mutually exclusive with making other memories
I agree, I think this is fab
There is no trend. Everyone can do what they want. Your bags are beautiful. Nobody is right or wrong.
Absolutely, no one way is better than the other
I am with you Amelia!! I still have my handbag collection. Even though I use or not using it.
I'm with ya!
I think, well said! Ty soo much for talking about this! I love handbags since childhood, n I always will! ❤
Thank you so much!
Thank you! Yes I think at the level she is at it was probably a lot more competitive than we have experienced
Yes and thank you!! I love my bags and I love your bags and sooo glad they are all here to stay 👏💕
Yay! Thank you!
Yes i said, she did make a point in saying this was her journey.
I agree with everything that you have said. Also I agree that the community is fabulous and supportive not at all competitive. At the end of the day just do you x
Thank you!
Very true, we don't need any of this
There is too much to comment on so I’ll just comment on this
I don’t feel like there is a competition in the luxury world. I think the majority of us are excited for each other when someone else is able to get something they love. We get excited with them.
I'm still excited for your street sign alma! ( that i didn't like until i saw yours!!)
I've no idea who this Niki is, but I adore YOU, so I'll listen to your thoughts while I'm cleaning the kitchen 😘💖
Awh thank you my love
