Nice demo of this machine showing everything so people could see for themselves. I have a top loader but it's a speed queen and it never has any of these issues. I also have a front loader never had a problem with mold or smell. You have to keep the door open and clean and no problems.
Working in the appliance industry, I'll let everyone in on a secret... manufacturers know they can cobble together the most absolute tin-cans with 1800's single speed motors that burn out, make horrid noises, and struggle to reach 600 rpm spin... as long as the washer has a flap on the top and an agressive looking plastic prong in the middle, there's an alarming percent of the American buying public who will buy it simply because they know nothing about washers and will buy anything that isn't a front loader. 😂
I LOVE this washer. Yes, it sounds just like that if you stand right next to it. From kitchen and living space, i don't notice it. This washer gets my clothes cleaner and they are wrung out well. Drying time is down to 30ish minutes for a normal load.
I have the same exact Washer and mine works fine. It's a little loud because it's a Heavy Duty machine. It is not meant to be used to wash small loads.
As a service tech this sounds normal for a belt driven top loader. A higher model would be direct drive and is a bit quieter. The whirlpool/ maytags are built very similarly and get the same complaints also about the ahirt not going under common for new top loaders with low water level. This is why i always buy and recommend front loaders. They wash better most are direct drive and will also last longer.
I've owned both top and front Load, my recent purchase of earlier Maytag 2002 ( before whirlpool bought out Maytag ) is the best washing machine I've owned a lot quieter than the one in this video, the only negative is it's healthy use of water, I'm fortunate it has a half fill option.

Thank you for posting this video. People like me, doing washing machine "research," greatly appreciate these videos. I'm so sorry you're not happy with your new washer. That would be a HUGE disappointment. It doesn't seem fair that you're stuck with a washer you don't like. UGH! is right!! Hopefully, I have a better experience when I finally decide which one to go with. One thing is for sure, it won't be a GE. Thank you, again. ♥
That's the sound of a really poor motor controller. The first spinny part is the load sensing. It uses the inertia to put a load on the motor to sense the size.
This is actually normal for GE. This is a motor that they use specifically for their machines and they do have quiet ones but that’s direct motor Drive and plus you have a very silent house so that could be another reason.
I have the GE Profile washer, the one they sell with Alexa built in, and it isn't that noisy it is actually pretty quiet. When it is actually washing you can't hear it at all. The water falling into the tub is the loudest part and that is just the sound of water running. It could be better insulated for sound than this one, but the only way we know its even done is when the Alexa in the living room tells us. The dryer is actually a little louder than the Washer. Something is definitely up with this one
I have the whirlpool version without the agitator. Mines is noisy but it’s ok. My washer does the exact same thing yours is doing. Mines is louder when it spins and im ok with it. Actually mines filled up just to drain the water back out. I guess thats what it does who knows.
GE is now owned by Haier, which is a rubbish manufacturer. My top loader barely lasted 5 years and pretty much every component failed. And it’s loud like this one too.
Top load high efficiency washers are ment to use less water. But it still gets cleaned so don’t worry, unless there’s something wrong with it- (Edit: agitators wash clothes roughly if they’re super dirty. Impeller washes them gently but still makes your clothes clean only if you only get them normally dirty instead of super)
I have a front loading LG combined washer-dryer that is going into it's 15th year with out a service call, and it doesn't make as much noise as this machine. It would drive me crazy.
I have one of the newer GE top loaders as well. It's not that loud but does make noise while washing. The pole agitator is a waste on this model. It doesn't pull the clothes down to the lower wash plate fins. They make a model with the dual agitator which will pull the clothing to the bottom by promoting a good rollover.
Wow, that is loud. I just bought a GE GTW585BSVWS (not Profile) which seems to have nearly the same features and it is probably 1/4th as loud! Not super quiet but tolerable. Maybe GE is listening to the bad reviews. The biggest problem with these GE washers seems to be getting off balance with large or waterlogged items. The basket is like a spinning top and will get a huge wobble going if off balance. The automated balancing attempt by the washer can add 15-30 minutes to the whole cycle as it fills and drains trying to move the clothes and it may never get balanced in the end.
@@ginaladner1 Very satisfied! Only issue with these top loaders is if they get unbalanced in the spin cycle they spend tons of time trying to balance the clothes by filling and turning and then trying to spin again. They usually fail to rebalance. So you have to be careful when loading.
Your comment is correct. I am extensively researching before I buy for that exact reason. I'm having to use another person's washer before I decide to fix the one I have or get a new one. I'm not encouraged by the inventory in any regular top load brands, for all of which I did a deep dive watching RUclips videos (even commercial grade units including Speed Queen). Most just spin rinse anymore, and you can't do anything about it! But thankfully, it appears GE units do a fill rinse - and GE has the Deep Rinse option, so try that. GE's GTW 4.5 cubic units agitate much better and aren't nearly as loud. By way of further comment, Frigidaire FFTW4120SW agitates the same strange way but isn't nearly as loud. Wow. Glad I didn't consider GE Profile units.
I have had the same washer and dryer for 2 months. I did research for a month but unfortunately i did not come across this video. I HATE HATE HATE the washer. I was remodeling and did not have units delivered for a month then not hooked up for another week. Past return date or they would have gone back. I have impellar washer. Clothes basically just move back and forth (even less than "agitator" in video). Clothes that start on top stay on top. Clothes get air bubbles and never get into water. I have to take comforters and coats to laundrymat to get clean! Never had these issuesis with my washers from 10+ years ago. Whoever designed this style of washer obviously doesn't do laundry!
@GinBreadMan68. I too have the same washer as you with the impeller, not the agitator and love it. It might be a bit louder than my old one, a Maytag, so I just shut the laundry room door. Works like a charm.
They are a little "louder" but they are heavy duty. Samsung washers are quieter, but they are big pieces of junk lol. It's really now that big of deal for most people. Their washer is either in a laundry room or garage. Don't sweat it
I've had a FL washer since 2005... I seriously don't think you could pay me to have a top load washer in 2023...The FL washers (some better than others) I think are just so much better... I've never had mold or bad smells in 18 years in the washer... Unless the TL washer has a legit agitator that at least causes some rollover... I wouldn't want it
That's a great point about the side loading washers! I'll keep that in mind for when I get a new washer at my own house. This is my Dad's house. Yes, that agitator is pretty useless. Lol
As a service tech I always recommend front loaders. Also I never have to work on them. I see top loaders like this several times a day every day but front loaders about once every 2 weeks. Even then it's usually some maintenance item they could have done.
Doesnt look like theres enough water..what cycle is this on? Do you recommend the impeller version and what model did you end up with or did you keep this one?
I have the same thing but with no agitator. These washers are stupid. They don’t clean when it has a good load. The cloths on top stay still and the bottom only moves. And sometime the washer water level is either very low or very high level. Also when they are on rise it fill almost full takes maybe 5 minutes or longer to fill. Then rinse the cloths for 30 seconds then drain. Waste of water.
Thank you for the comment! I noticed in the product reviews for this model that some people say it's loud and some say theirs is quiet. I brought that up to the repair man that maybe there is a bad batch of motors and he dismissed it saying they are all this loud and there's no part he could swap out to make it more quiet. So Thank you!! Your comment confirms what I was thinking all along.
So the buzz you hear is "normal" in the sense that that's what a single-speed, non-inverter drive motor sounds like. When you see those stickers on LG washers that say "Inverter Direct Drive", it's actually not just marketing BS.. it means they use a variable frequency drive that energizes the poles of the motor in succession with feedback from a hall effect sensor. GE uses this on their front loaders, but since top loaders are purchased by people who will buy literally anything that isn't a front loader (despite the fact that front loaders wash better, balance better, spin better, and are better built) most manufacturers just use the ancient single speed motors. But hey, it's got a (fake) agitator! Oblivious consumers gobble these buzz-box top loaders up, especially the Whirlpoop ones, they're built extra-flimsy and people just buy them and put up with them, they figure that's just how washers are. lmao
I grew up with an agitator top-loader, and I can say it beat a front-loader 100x any day of the week. My family's successor to the top-loader was a 2013 Whirlpool front-loader, and it was one of the worst washing machines ever built. It never used enough water, I always found myself having to add water after the fact. And I can say from experience that to say by default front-loaders balance and spin better than top-loaders is objectively and completely false. In our Whirlpool front-loader, unless you were washing loads less than a pound or two in weight, the "balance cycle" would often take longer than the spin cycle itself. Sometimes the washing machine would take over half an hour just to balance the load for _one_ spin. It was terrible, an embarrassment, and a complete waste of time. We finally gave up and switched over to an LG impeller top-loader, and it washes a thousand times better. Never going back to a front-loader. Having experience with both top- and front-loaders, I can say I absolutely hate the latter.
Wow, GE used to make really tough, and good washers in the past . Why do they insist on messing with the agitation action ? There seems to be a lot of just sitting and dribbling of water. I’ll bet this machine was just under $1000. too.
Well, really it wouldn’t be so unbalanced if you added more clothes to it because if you add less garments, it will focus on one side and bang, but if you add too much clothes, the same thing will happen
After living with the washer since I posted the video, I always just kept using the deep fill for every load, so the clothes did get clean. But we were on well water, so using the deep fill wasn't a problem for me whereas it might be for other people. Also we kept the door closed, so the noise wasn't as big of an issue. The main problem after long term use was the amount of times that the load got unbalanced and then the tub ended up filling to the top again to try to shift the clothes around. No mater how well I spaced out the clothes, it was very frequently a problem. This was my Dad's house. At my house at home, I have an older type of Whirlpool and I have never once had an unbalanced load in the 5 years. So that ended up being the biggest issue to live with.
Thank you for making this video. That's considering purchasing one of these because of the large capacity and the agitator. However watching this thing in action leads me to believe the agitator was only added for looks, it clearly has no functional purpose. What a joke.
After having it a few months, I've settled on doing the "hold deep fill for 3 seconds" to get the water to fill all the way to the top as a way to make sure the clothes all go underwater at some point. This also deadens the noise a little and the clothes do seem to get clean. But if we didn't live where it rains a lot and if we weren't on a well with unlimited water, I wouldn't feel right about using so much water. It's a lot of water being used! Sometimes it gets out of balance and it fills up the tub a couple more times to get the clothes unbalanced.
We also can close the door to the laundry room, but it would be very loud if the machine was in the kitchen or bedroom with us like I've seen in some houses. So I guess it depends if you can get around the shortcomings. It's a beautiful machine visually which is why I chose it and we were able to get around the shortcomings here with the "fill to top" and by closing the door to the laundry room and choosing when to do laundry not during tv watching, etc. If you decide on something else, I'd be interested to hear what you've found. This machine is at my Dad's house, but I will be buying something at my house too at some point.
The small appliance store where we bought it doesn't take returns or exchanges even if we notified them within 24 hours, so we had to keep it. We should have asked ahead of time, but we've bought so many other appliances there, it didn't seem like we needed to ask. At least now that I've discovered the deep fill "hold 3 seconds until it beeps" trick, now at least all of the clothes go under water, but it wastes so much water because it fills to the top even if I have only a small load. The two choices are "not enough water to cover the clothes" or "way too much water". There's no way to set the load size to match the amount of water like on older washers.
@@lynne3327 I'm so sorry you're stuck with this...What I recommend before buying a washer is watching youtube videos of them in action (to see if you're happy with the way they wash)... LOTS of people post videos doing this... You may not find all models but most of the time they're on there somewhere. That agitator looks so beautiful, doesn't it? Almost old schoolish...Yet it does hardly anything unless it's a full tub underloaded... I wonder if you could call GE themselves and complain? It should be under manufacturers warranty
Here’s a GE front loader washer story for yah… so my washer’s drain pump quit working and upon further investigation the four ultra-cheap plastic suspension rods broke during an unbalanced load. So I went online to figure out how much it would cost to repair it rather than replace it. $100 for the drain pump and $67 per cheap plastic rod. So I could spend $368 dollars for parts and hope I can install them myself or buy a brand new washer for $600. This is absolute thievery and price gouging and why our society would rather dispose of and replace broken things rather than repair them. So we went with a basic LG front loader and will never purchase another GE. Do not buy a top loader unless it’s a speed Queen and even then it’s probably more economical to just buy an LG frontloader. We will see how this washer holds up but I can tell you that nobody in the family is allowed to wash comforters or any other super bulky items that will likely lead to an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. Buy a front loader and don’t over load it and keep the door open after use until the grommet dries completely.
These “crappy washer suck, and I would NOT have GE in my house, I already have freaking GE products that I’m NOT buying, I would recommend the “direct drives” to suit your laundry room. If you see this pls reply, cause these washers and newer dryers are crap
This is junk. So important that people do their research before purchasing because you can't believe what manufactures are creating and selling because they know many will just purchase and never know how bad it really is. Reason #101 i will never buy a modern day top loader. Front loaders only, LG. Can never go wrong with those things
Wish I had saw this before Dec 14 my daughter says the machine moves!!!!😢
How do u get liquid to go out mines just sitting in top help pls
You pull it all the way then lift it to take it out
Well, really it wouldn’t be so unbalanced if you added more clothes to it because if you add less garments, it will focus on one side and bang, but if you add too much clothes, the same thing will happen
Could you Do a Follow up ....???
😮🤨🤠
Thank you. 😉
What a joke.
should have watched videos on you tube for guidence find my new washer loud when operating
This guy's mic is super sensitive!
loud wash technology you'll know your clothes are done washing when it stops sounding like your house is falling apart
This doesn't sound normal at all. Allot of friction here it seems.
Thank you! That’s what I was wondering as well. ❤️
Do a full load to look how the rollover is then. Washing a few items makes no sense.
Chose a front load machine. Top load machine are very loud and very aggressive with garments especially this with agitator
I was going to purchase one of these this week but now thinking twice. How do you feel about it after having it a few months?
Did you keep it or return it?
Just set my machine up and it is so loud 😢wish I went with my first choice.
I see where Haier duped you into buying one of their POS machines, but don't feel bad you are one of thousands who got "took"...
In tennessee, there is washer like that
Wouldn't want one in my house.
All appliances make noise
This is normal mind did that
This is 2024?, GE - we regress our tech into the future...is that noise coming off transmission ?
That is loud
Buy a front loader and don’t over load it and keep the door open after use until the grommet dries completely.
lg washers are better
doesn't clean clothes well at all...
These “crappy washer suck, and I would NOT have GE in my house, I already have freaking GE products that I’m NOT buying, I would recommend the “direct drives” to suit your laundry room. I’m so sorry that you have to get a washer that wastes time. I wish GE would stop being lazy with all of these appliances. I think that is the model PTW600. If you see this pls reply, cause these washers and newer dryers are crap
Or get a Samsung top load washer
They bad
@@ThatIPhone14ProMaxUserI have one and it is good ge. Is bad tho😊
whatever you do, DONT
Looks cheaply made and loud, not enough water to wash
This is junk. So important that people do their research before purchasing because you can't believe what manufactures are creating and selling because they know many will just purchase and never know how bad it really is. Could you imagine if she had a full load of clothes in that machine..... I'll say no more...
If you want a quiet washer, get a Samsung
Nah speed queen TR7
I'm tired just watching
That’s pathetic
I'd never buy one of these POS HE washer's. Find u a normal washer.
Not all he washers are bad
I know your not happy! But your comments are funny! 😂🤣 Yeah its unbelievably loud at all things ! 😂🤍
