Apparently Philadelphia Union went from their normal 4-4-2 diamond to 5-4-1 to sell out for Busi, but it backfired. Combine that with some absolute choker and the game looked so much worse that it should have been. PU ended the game with 2.6xG to 0.6 for Miami, but granted Miami stopped playing at half time. It really feel like they were starstruck.

Blake (Philly’s Keeper) is an MLS stud and Jamaica’s national team starting GK and captain- he’s a decent player just a mare start to this game and Philly are a very decent team in fact they won the Eastern conference last season and lost to LAFC and Gareth Bale in a crazy MLS Cup (playoffs) final worth checking out in your spare time or something. (Also the Leagues Cup features all 29 MLS teams (26 USA and 3 Canada) and all 18 Liga MX teams in a group format and then knockout stage. This matchup is the semifinal. The other semi was Nashville SC and Monterrey in Mexico and Nashville won 2-0 setting up a Nashville v Miami final)

Andre Blake is one of the top five in MLS history for clean sheets, saves, and goalkeeper of the year awards. He’s one of the best not just in MLS but in all of CONCACAF. He just had a poor game. @@ashishd380 I think the problem with Philadelphia is similar to the problem for the teams that have been carved up by Miami so far… With the exception of Dallas, every MLS team that has played, Miami has seemed intimidated and overwhelmed. Many of them aren’t playing in the traditional shapes they play with all season, going under their way to change their formation and their style when they play Lionel Messi, which only hurts them. Dallas was the only team that did not seem rattled by playing against inter-Miami and they were actually able to almost get a result, even getting a draw. I was watching a talkshow/podcast here on RUclips… And I think what the host said is pretty accurate. It’s like Messi has the awe factor not just for the fans, but for the players on the opposing team.

Long message warning: but pls read lmao
i was at this game yesterday loll. im a long time union supporter. andre blake our keeper for a long time now has easily been the best in mls for many years this game does NOT do him justice especially if you watch his highlights he has pulled off some of the most insane saves you will ever see. He was meant to head to crystal palace or brighton a little while back but had visa issues. we were also missing our star striker julian carranza to injury which is why donovan, who has no relation to landon lol, was in his place. as for our defense, we have had the best backline for many seasons but were exposed this game because of the change in our usual formation. at the same time like you mentioned we held the ball more and had so many chances the game should’ve been tighter and from watching the game messi barely had the ball we closed him down instantly. rough end result but we do have a solid team here in philly believe it or not. i highly recommend watching last seasons mls cup final with lafc and union. or the 3-3 draw with lafc-union both games showcase alot.💛💙💛💙

The goalkeeper looks very athletic and probably has very good reflexes. But sometimes goalkeepers with great reflexes overcommit, and that happened in the first goal. The Messi goal was a result of slight concentration lapse. Messi caught him of guard. Im not sure there are many players in the world who would have taken that shot or could perform it with such a precision, and he probably just didn't expect it.

    • @hisnameisbass6405

Philly played scared all night. Messi's goal notwithstanding, it was the *rest* of Inter Miami that really carved them. But, I get it. If you're not terrified of the little Argentine, you might do a better job of marking everyone else.
As for Messi's goal... Yes, it was a goalkeeping error, but it's still Messi. And in the keeper's defense, it is not as though it was a sure thing even for LM. I believe that was the second longest distance of any he's ever scored in his career.

I work for the Philadelphia union and we are a great team, actually the most winning team in MLS this decade. We have a pretty solid team and maybe the only team that can actually give Miami a challenge. I know this game doesnt show it but If we play Miami again I think we win. And our goalie is usually WAYYYYYY better than this. I think to many nerves of messi being there threw off our team

I think to some extent the Messi affect is in play. These players have never had this level of pressure. So I think they're star struck and their over compensate their play which fucks em up a bit.
Also the MLS is known for being a mostly striker heavy league, not much defense cuz that's boring. U can have 0-0 draws in the prem cuz it's massively popular but when a league is trying to make it big u need excitement and that comes from goals. Better defense= less goals = less excitement= less viewership= less money. Early European soccer had a fuck ton of goals but as things progressed they invested more into defense
