Many organizations feel that Digital Transformation is purely IT and respond many a times to problems which may be just operational and transient. Transformation programs are broad-base requiring enterprise level commitment, IT or not and address a longer term future state.
Thanks Eric burning platform on business cases could be more detailed in terms of which specific business processes with realisable quantifiable benefits and user journeys.. many universities in the UK are running on so-called burning platforms as of 2024 and details such the above are required for consultants like us to work better with them. This is where requirements gathering comes into play and vision and goals for the Erp linked to the overall companies goal. Jan N

'Burning platform' is a common cliched argument, whilst this may be okay to help with a business case, that is a weak one. There are aspirational more positive reasons undeneath the cliched arguments that end up in many business cases. So they challenge is digging underneath those robotic arguments to get to the 'real' reasons

My guess for the worst reason; being forced by ERP/software vendors (due to lack of support for legacy software or non-cloud infrastructure)...
