Love the quote on the white board: “This is not a fitness channel. It’s a skill channel”
This is precisely why I have a 5kilo kettlebell [for which my friends often mock me!]. I like to 'learn' a movement properly with very light weight before the actual 'working' part with the heavier 'actual exercise performance' bells. I stopped bothering with 'ego' in workouts a long time ago! Once I know the movement, what the 'groove' is, where it should be, how it should feel etc., only then will I start with the 12k and then working up and onward to start 'working in'. properly. Funny the amount of people that will still do 'unloaded bar' work to learn a standard lifting movement but sneer stupidly at a lighter kb being used for the EXACT same reason when it comes to swinging!
Just tried it with my 30lber. Too heavy. I don't feel in control and I don't seem to be strong enough in these directions. You need some weight in the hand but not much. Guess I need some lighter bells. 5kg would also be a great warm up weight. Best warm up is the same movements as the workout but with light load.
WISE!
I agree with you. I will work on this with a 6kg. Would hate to bash you knee……. As in all things -start light and work up. I do Suitcase swings, now using 2 x 10kg, and will enjoy work8ng upwards. I love suitcase swings, one of Mark’s videos.
I just tried this movement with a 10lb weight to get the form down, for the exact reasons you cited. Got it right a couple times at first but then started to rush and tagged my leg just above the knee. Not so bad with that light a weight but that's why you swallow your pride to get it right with less risk.
Mark I would like to say that I have been concerned with my diminished strength and mobility lately, I will be 63 this December and really don't want to become a feeble old man, but I was not sure where to start with improving. A few weeks back I discovered your channel and began to do some of your club and kettle bell exercises. I can really feel the difference the exercises have made and I am confident that I will get much better over time, I don't think I will regain what I had in my youth but I do think I will be able to do many of the things I have slowly found to be increasingly difficult. Hopefully this feedback puts a smile on your face.
It has. Keep training. Do not go quietly into the night
I truly hope your growth on RUclips continues. Your videos and your overall knowledge is phenomenal. Thank you.
I do a rotational workout utilizing Bulragian Bags, Steel Mace, and Kettlebells every week. I will definitely incorporate this drill into my routine. Thanks for the great instruction.
what bulgarian bag company would you recommend?
I sincerely appreciate the drastic increase in sound quality between your old and new videos.
second attempt straight into the inside of the knee. quick learning curve on that movement.
Ouch me too
Same here bro
Man, good stuff.. happy that your channel is getting more and more attention
Hey Mark, I notice your vids often have a 10:1 view:like ratio which is very high. I think the internet is sending you compliments.
Noticed it too!.. Some of the highest ratio I've ever seen.
Not too many views - compared with millions, that are common on YT - but the crowd (tribe?) who comes here just loves the fuck out of Mark's content.
Including me::)
all good to know. this caused me to look it up i just discovered the analytics in youtube studio.
Seeing as I've never heard of this and it's April 1... just making sure: this really is something I should try?
I could definitely see me knee-capping myself...
Mark, your videos are invaluable! I'm so glad to see this particular video, as I had been doing this movement in my pre-covid gym (no clubs there), but with an 8kg kettlebell still gripped like a club/ hammer curl. I just hadn't considered doing the movement from and to the rack position. Keep up the great work, and thanks so much!
i see that bottoms up version as well. you just can't do the bottoms up version with heavier weight.
Awesome. This exercise was in a video workout I do. It was demonstrated, but never explained. Makes so much more sense now - thanks!
Wow! When I watched you do this with a club I wondered if it could also be done with a kettlebell. Thank you very much and thank you for everything you show.
Mark, Thanks for great content/instruction! Threw this movement into my workout yesterday and really feeling the effects today in my core. This one may become a staple exercise. Thanks again!
Hi Mark! Great video. I just figured it out in the first 100 seconds of this video !!!
Have you ever seen one of those videos of the flight deck of an aircraft carrier with the guys directing operations by waving their arms around in patterns? You should be training those guys. Your moves are better.
:D
Another great vid! Nice to see your channel growing. Much deserved your videos are awesome.
Awesome tutorial. Thank you.
Useful for track and field... shotput ans discus throwers can definitely use this.
Good video straight to the point, easy to follow and informative Thank you !
Kettle-knee-poppers
:)
Thanks for this tutorial Mark. I am going to do it today when I get home!
Brilliant. Adding to routine today. Thanks.
Your explanation’s are limpid, great work! Thank you.
You have great content!!! Thanks 🙏
Yes i need this. Working on my mobility. Gonna start this with a 5k or less bell to practice the movemenr
Mark. Thanks as always for your great info. Is doing the shoulder press when sat on the floor also a good move to incorporate? Any technique tips on that? Can't find a vid of you speaking on that specically. Cheers
Was wondering the same...
yes.. its just much harder. i'll put it on the list
@@MarkWildman thanks man
Like a z press with the barbell...
Please show us the atlas swing and the swing squat.
i'll put them on the list
Nice exercise. Great demo.
You're so effortIessIy funny man. It's a Legit skiII to rivaI your badass KB skiIIs
Thank you Mark
Very interesting; very innovative; very effective!
Seems there would be a high core rotational stabilization component. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Mark excellent as usual. How about a kettlebell deadlift vid?
ill put it on the list.
Tried these today with double 35s. Killer.
Thank you for an interesting variation on kettlebell swings. Which of your instructional vids I could use for Judo? I will try this technique for sure.
I immediately saw this as a benefit to baseball pitchers and quarterbacks .
Is there a sense to swing in both directions?
Great info thanks. Do I have to sound like a steam powered beam engine whilst doing this or is that part optional?
Choo choo noises are also acceptable.
Jack Black .. i Hope he will follow it and keep his self inflected challenge without you to get in shape. He s more into RDE2 so give him a call his feet are Steel flat . Keep it up Man
Excellent
Hi Mark - love your videos! I’m a woman and I train with 8kg and 12kg kettlebells. What size club do you recommend for me? Thanks!
10lb
Hey Mark, could I have a pointer on re-racking the bell at the top of the swing? On my off hand, it swings around and smacks my wrist. My dominant hand seems to have no issue with it, but the other one...ouch. I’ve been trying and learning this with a tiny bell (8kg) first to get the form down, and this seems to be the thing that’s not going smoothly. Thanks!
Would it be fine to alternate inside/outside instead of turning and resetting? Or should I just stick with what you’re doing and double the sets? After of course I learn each movement on its own.
Alternatively is more advanced. Most people do better learning it in phases
@@MarkWildman I had a feeling that would be your answer, I was pretty clunky just doing it the one way the other day. I’ll work up to it though if there’s no other reason not to. Thank you sir.
So I can use this as an alternative to purchasing clubs or Maces I can't afford?
an alternative until you set aside the funds...
There was a lot of snot that day. This is snot a fitness channel 😂
Hello Mark!
First of all thanks for your videos,I'm learning a lot and will try these Kettlebell inside circles tomorrow.
I'd like to practise with heavy clubs but I don't think that they're very popular in France... So maybe do you know a brand that is internationaly purchasable?Take Care.Fabian.
hmmmm... do you have Onnit steel clubs in europe?
@@MarkWildman Yes I'm on their site ,I'll send them a mail to know if they can ship from the USA to the old France (where we can still walk a lot :) ) Hope that the situation 's not too bad for you with the Covid..Be good and thanks again
Mark, I just discovered your channel a week ago. I find your videos very instructive and you convinced me to try dumbbells. So I just ordered one from Gorilla clubbells. They deliver in France and many sizes were still available.
What kind of weights do you recommend for this? You do it with 16kg, but you're shredded. I do my swings with 16kg still.
30 to 50% lighter than your usual weights until you learn to do it with the correct timing. there will be an adaption phase to this type of rotation.
What is the purpose of this exercise, what muscle does it work
All of them. The muscle chain for a cross and for throwing.
It is part of the kettlebell juggling curriculum. Same with snatches and throws done in this pattern.
which curriculum. i only see Onnit club guys doing this?
@@MarkWildman Give me a minute. I'll find some videos for you. It's rare but it's there.
@@creativebodycoach cool.
@@MarkWildman around the 4:53 mark. They go from the snatch but I've seen it done from the clean as well. They are must more loose with their form however: ruclips.net/video/bONDCr1tp0w/видео.html
@@MarkWildman I originally learned those from Steve Maxwell, my BJJ coach. I totally agree, they were probably borrowed from club work but I've seen them well before the ONNIT crew made them popular. Please keep up the excellent work.
Just found your Channel recently, Zero experience with a kettle bell but 20 plus years of heavy tool usage. What size kettle bell for a good all around starter ?
Thanks
16k
if you dont move your fit, dont your knees get twist ?
Love your videos Mark. Any advice on hamstring pain?
forward fold for 4 min continuous every day
Mark Wildman figures. Ask JB what’s jablins Jables for us. Thanks brother.
Hey Mark, do you think this is a safe option for pwaterstripe? In my opinion it could be, but unless this is one of you’re clients you speak to or train regularly I would not give this advice. The only info on the pain is the the location. You don’t know if it’s a tear, some pelvis alignment issue, if it is from muscle imbalances, etc. Maybe you know this individual but instead of giving them a generic movement I think sending them to a professional on the end of PT, OT, Athletic trainers, etc. This way the get specific help for themselves and you are not liable for any further harm. Mark you maybe right, but just for the safety of yourself if nothing else!
@@laxcoachcody9234 is stretching a safe option?
Mark Wildman you are right. It probably is a safe option. What I was trying to say is for your safety in case the injury gets worse is to say to check it out with a local professional just in case it is more than stretching can solve. My bad I worded the comment poorly.
Hi and thank you for the information.
I can do it with a dumbbell...?
Thank again.
Never give up.
OSU
you could. but it would be dicey. a hex dumbbell protrudes a lot on either side of the handle
Indian wrestlers do it traditionally with rounded cast iron dumbells.
This channel has now become a daily fix. Thanks!!!
Hey Mark, do you recommend performing kettlebell workouts for a skinny guy that wants to put on size?
definitely
If you are proficient with double bells, I recommend doing armour building complex or total tension kettlebell complex.
@@redskies1231 Thank you for the recommendation. I have zero experience with exercising with kettlebells. Just read up on TT and it sounds like it might be too intermediate for me, so I don't know if that's a good starting point. Which workout program would you recommend to start off with?
@@redskies1231 is that an alternating circle program?
@@adamsuleman6389 I've been using bells since last May and they have a steep learning curve. The best thing I did was find a local Strongfirst or RKC certified instructor and learn all the basic movements first. Then move on to double bells.
What muscles are being used , with this here movement ???
All of them. Rotation ab line stabilization, shoulder traction lay fire. Grip. Glutes
😎
What you think about hard plastic kettlebells? Much cheaper, but they are probably not much durable. Anyone experience?
who makes plastic bells???? im not sure they would be strong enough??
@md
True
Oh no the collars are down. Something is wrong.
But the hat is on.
i fixed it in upcoming videos. some up. some down. some half up half down. its crazy
whats the risk worth reward benefit of this one...
risk low benefit high
@@MarkWildman actually just gave it a try. Thanks man great exercise.
I find my self on a little bit of a horse stance as the bell comes down.. is it that bad form? Or is it whatever works for oneself?
@@kirpaS as long as you don't hit yourself and your heels are on the ground, you are doing fine
This is weird because I was just thinking of doing this exercise with a KB but was scared I’d kill myself. Mark my hero.
🎯💥💎
I really appreciate your content but I can not help thinking, why are you not in better shape? Again I don’t mean any disrespect by this
got off a movie that lasted 6 months. ate all the stuff i couldn't eat. if no body is specifically paying me to be pretty. then i don't train to be pretty
I suspect Mark can defend himself on this one but the question begs to be asked. “How do you have time to notice during a video jammed with instruction, examples, and technique?”
Join us, join the highland games! The real origin of functional training
my buddy does it. i'm in la. no where to train for most of the events. but i do have 4 kilts already
@@MarkWildman haha awesome moving closer to the dark side already. I've been training for 9 months for my first games this summer but it may be cancelled, such is life.
@@Bombsuitsandkilts yeah... i was supposed to go see my friend compete in the midwest but its cancelled. bummer. its hard to find a place to practice the kyber toss here in LA
@@Bombsuitsandkilts is there a specialist gym for this or you making your own stuff?
@@MarkWildman I made everything myself except I ordered the heavy weight, it's been great for workout out at home.
abs, lats, triceps and glutes are probably the ones disliking this video
Might try with kneepads first
This looks like a cracked / dislocated kneecap waiting to happen. At least for my uncoordinated self.
start with a club
With all the variety of kb exercises why would you try anything like this so dangerous that can take you out for ever with just one mistake... Do the basic moves, build volume and weight, use your brain not just muscles.
because its awesome and rotation is fundamental to athletic awesome
We’re talking patela patè here …
it is... highly advised... to not hit yourself
