Loved this post. I am an old woman with a little house, a few cats and dogs and some pretty things growing plus a few little garden boxes for veggies. Shelves of books and I have more than enough.

What a delightful treat it is to turn on my computer in the morning, see that you've created a new video and take a walk around the cottage to marvel at how incredibly healthy and happy the plants are! It is a feast for the senses. The cottage looks gorgeous too! I do the same thing with my laundry, if it's too wet outside to hand on the line, it goes over a drying rack, on to the back of chairs, or it is put on hangers to be dried by the woodstove. Thank you for all you do. Blessings to you dear friend!

It was very funny for me to hear that people think that Rhododendron is invasive. In my mothers garden, here in Germany , I had problems to keep our Rhododendrons healthy. It was one of my moms favorite flower in the garden. One day before she died she said with a glimpse of prediction "it is so sad, I will not See my Rhododendron bloom. " I tried my best to take care of them but it was a struggle, I wished they would have been invasive. I love them too and in our garden , back then they were the first big bushes blooming. People judge so fast about other livings, way too fast.
Blessings to you Colette and may the Rhododendrons in your garden bloom as lang as mother nature has joy with it. 🌳🌻🌈🥰

I don't often comment collete but I absolutely love watching your videos and learning. When you said this video may inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, I will do just that! Rhododendron in pots is something I never thought of. I have camellias in pots so why I thought rhododendron couldn't go in pots is beyond me. I have even planted small fruit trees in half barrels this year after your saying "plant like your life depends on it". Teaching us novice gardeners through your videos is such a helpful way to help us get inspired, even if we have little space. The garden outside your door is my favourite. My eyes scan every plant wondering if I too could squeeze one into my garden. You are amazing, and so is your garden and woodland. Thank you for helping us learn and be able ro follow your lead 😘 xx

I love the way you are always so delighted with insects but I worry when people use the word bugs contemptuously, That dreaded reaching for a newspaper. We have mosquitoes so we plant lemon scented plants and mint that deter them. Plus we use screendoors. I hope parents and teachers teach young people so enjoy the marvel of insect life.

A few top notch quotes there Colette.
"I might of had trouble paying my bills at times but I never felt impoverished" haha I can so relate to that sister, because as you say "I live my life in abundance" 🌹🌾
I especially like what you said about "not knowing the meaning of enough" and I so concur.... Although possibley not when it comes to plants 🌿🌱😜.
I also enjoy you speak about so called "invasive species"... I would love for you to see what I've done with my 4.5f X 24f city balcony. It's a mini rainforest, and like you gives me so much joy each morning as I observe massive changes over night on a daily basis 🌺🌲🌻🍃

I absolutely love your stone cottage! Our version of stone cottages in the US are brick homes and I’m looking far and wide to find a small one (in the country or rural area)! Hard to find! Most of them were made in the 40s-70s (in town) and it seems like for some reason they stopped making them when the 80s rolled around and we started making 2500 then 3500 then 4500 sq ft stick built houses that fall apart as soon as the 30 year mortgage is paid off! You live in a paradise you’ve created and I’m sure many of us, not just me, are thankful for your example of what true happiness is and that it’s up to us to create that happiness wherever possible.

Ah, Colette. Your cottage and grounds are like a breath of fresh air for my soul. Rhododendrons are so architectural and grow larger, while their "cousins" Azaleas growth habit is more compact, to my eye anyway. I read that Azaleas are Rhododendrons, but Rhododendrons are not Azaleas. No matter, both are beautiful! Blessings to you . . .

Good heavens.... Rhododendrons are not invasive from my experience. They are prolific and gorgeous here in the Pacific Northwest of America and are prolific not because they spread naturally (I've never seen that though they can grow very big in our acidic soil) but because humans propagate them for their beauty. Yours are gorgeous and a perfect fit for Bealtaine Cottage!!!

Congratulations on paying off your mortgage! Bravo and well done. I know you don't need my approval but I am so proud of you. You did it on your own and in only 18 years I believe you said, that is simply fantastic!
