Nice! Thanks for sharing! I might hike this some day, even though I am Norwegian and have seen much of it driving. It must be a totally different experience hiking and getting so much time to reflect and breath the fresh air. 🙂

Hei Hilde.

Thanks for sharing your trip, Norway is a wonderful country. I'm planning to do this trip too, how much money do you think I should bring?

It is a wonderful trip and you will not regret hiking the trail! In regards to money - it depends a bit on how many nights you will sleep indoors and how many nights in a tent and if you will eat simple or fancy. The cheap way - tent and simple food, i would say about 200 kr/day.... a bit more fancy and many nights indoors I'd say closer to 500 kr/day. I wish you a wonderful hike and I really hope that you will find the time to it :-)

I was thinking the same thing about the trail ending at the church and how the people must have felt back in the old days. Especially when the bell rang and I noticed all the saints (?) lined across the front. How strange it must have been then.

It must certainly have made an impression on the pilgrims of the middle ages - the cathedral is quite impressive. The statues is a mix of saints, priests, bishops and biblical images. And for most pilgrims they would have to travel back again - maybe to central or southern parts of Europe.

Dear Simon, thanks a lot for showing us Norway “from inside”, I appreciated. Could you tell me how much weight was your bag? Would it be possible to sleep each night in an accommodation? For what price ? Tank you in advance, Nicolas.

Hi Nicolas.... My backpack was about 10 kg with food and water for a day. Yes - you can sleep every night in an accommodation. I think the price will be in the area of 200-500 kr each night - I used accommodation about half the nights on the trip and the rest in my tent. I can highly recommend the trip :-)

Thanks for a great video, I learnt a little bit about St. Olav Ways. Was interested to note that there was no footage of fellow trekkers doing the trail. did you meet many people along the way, or is it a very quiet trail, not many people doing the trek as yet??

Hi Samantha. I did meet other hikers on the trail. Not that many though - the trail is pretty quiet. I mostly meet people at the hostels along the trail.

@@SimonJeppesen Thank you for your reply. My aim is to walk the Spanish Camino de Santiago and while researching I stumbled upon your video about St. Olav Ways. I had visited some friend in Haugesund and Farsand in 2016 and just fell in love with Norway. I was lucky enough to hike Preikestolen while there and am eager to come back to Norway to visit with my friends and see more. One of my girlfriends is also interested in doing the walk. How easy/hard would it be for 2 Aussie ladies in their 50's to hike the trail? Could we do it on our own or would we need to go with a guide or a part of a group. Cheers

@@samanthaandrews-davidson5897 The trail is not complicated. Here is a link to lots of info about the trail and accommodation pilegrimsleden.no/en/plan/overnattingssteder. Most days you will come through settlements where you can buy food - the exeption is when crossing the Dovre mountains - there you have to carry food for a few days - but you will still pass hostels/hotels in the mountains.

The greed of the Norwegian Church. 🙄 Although this doesn't function much as a church anymore, more like a heritage site and tourist spot.

Well - it is a lovely hiking trail and you can hike it at absolutely zero cost if you want.
