Don’t know if it’s everyone’s cup of tea, but I heard of “Be My Cat: A Film for Anne”, and it gave me shivers. A torture filled movie told from the perspective of a man with a promise of making a movie with an actress. The creepiest scene was when he says into the camera in the trailer. “They didn’t know I lied.”
Not really, the “cat” in the title is a reference to the cat woman superhero. The sadistic man is really infatuated by her, which was a main reason for finding an actress.
Now this is a pretty good list. Please do more "Hidden Gem" style lists that cover movies that aren't consistently repeated in other lists on this channel, even though I've heard of most of these it's a breathe of fresh air compared to many other recent lists.
I actually thought The Conspiracy was a real documentary until I googled what happened to the conspiracy guy Terence who disappeared, only to find out it was a movie😅
Frankenstein's Army is criminally underrated! Possibly the most interesting creature designs of any horror movie, and the budget-to-quality ratio is mindblowing... Glad to see The Conspiracy on here as well, that doesn't get anything like enough recognition. I'm not sure to what extent they would be considered "hidden" gems but I'd definitely recommend the not-quite-so-well-known Dyatlov Pass Incident (which is one of the most restrained ff horror movies I've ever seen with barely any actually discernible horror until the final act unless you're paying very close attention to the background, not to mention a pretty good final twist), Digging Up The Marrow (which is essentially what happens if you blend the premise of The Conspiracy with the imaginative creature design of Frankenstein's Army), Be My Cat: A Film For Anne (possibly the most uncomfortable-to-watch movie I've ever seen), Incident At Loch Ness (more of a satirical dark comedy with horror elements that works best if you're at least moderately familiar with the life and works of Werner Herzog) and The Borderlands (definitely the most famous movie I've listed here, but considering it's- imho at least- one of the 5 best ff movies ever made is still insanely underrated).
@@Joemama55122 It's about a family that goes on vacation and the teenage siblings investigate a local scary legend with their camera, not knowing that they are personally involved in the legend.
'Savageland' is one of the coolest and most underrated FF films IMO! Such a cool take on how to tell a story. 100% worth seeking out if you haven't seen it!
Savageland is fantastic. Not scary in the traditional sense of the genre but deeply unnerving and unsettling. The kind of thing that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
The Grave Encounters and Hell House films and Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum are quite worth the watch. Don’t know that any are really obscure, but they weren’t massive cinema hits.
For those not so familiar with found footage horrors another recommendations should be for example: Europa report (2013) Apollo 18 The Gracefield incident (2017) Hangar 10 (Rendlesham UFO incident) (2014) Area 51 - I love the atmosphere of strangeness in this one, for me one of the best FF alien films Devil’s pass The Bay Speaking about top tier found footage (as in one of previous comments) mine favorites are Paranormal Activity (2007) REC (2007) Cloverfield (2008) District 9 (2008)
The Bay was way better than it had any right to be. I particularly enjoyed the special features. Director was like, "how do I raise awareness? I should do a documentary. No,noone will watch that. I KNOW, FOUND FOOTAGE HORROR FLICK."
Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is also really good, even as kinda a Korean answer to Grave Encounters. It has enough Eastern cultural elements to differentiate it too.
I think you can say that about almost every character from these "found footage movies". They use their cameras to hide, to distance yourself from the situation, to be "outside". It's a bizarre psychological defence mechanism, we all use it. I'm making a movie - so I'm kinda safe.
The dangerous thing about Found Footage Horror is that when done right it's incredible, when done bad then it's really REALLY bad. There is often no grey area.
Roman Polanski is an awesome director, just an awful human being. I don't know how to compare Drake to anything that would motivate anyone to a watch a horror movie.😂
Once I watched kind of FF movie "Skew" (2011). It's not hidden gem but it's ok I guess. It's weird enough to divide people into "loving it" and "hate it".
They remind me of something a friend filmed while drunk over the weekend yet still feels they are awesome at movie making on their new I Phone. And then forces everyone to watch it...twice😢😂
You know maybe it's just that horror has a hugely female audience that wants to watch a movie once in a while with something they can relate to, like an all female friend group. Thinking everything that doesn't pander to you specifically is WoKe is ridiculous
@@TearMeOpenIBelieve uhm, like there are no woman in horror movies?? Ever heard of final girls? I think girls are the most important caracters in most horror movies. That remark just made no sense.
I am deeply saddened and frustrated that one of the most underrated found footage horror movies of all time wasn't included in this list. If anyone hasn't seen Final Prayer (aka Borderlands), then drop everything and watch this gem IMMEDIATELY. It's pure nightmare fuel. 10 out of 10.👌🤘
So glad to see The Tunnel mentioned! Been a fan of that one for years. And it’s free on RUclips.
Worth a watch?
@@gemmagraham1031very worth a watch. :D
Not hidden gem,but “Host” and the “Unfriended” franchise are top tier found footage!
Unfriended scared me so much but it was really well done and really make it feel like you were watching someones computer and not them
Host is brilliant!!
Unfriended was a bore to the point the theater i went to we’re just laughing 😂
@@Fluttershy1fanyes this is true but it wasn’t scary as i mentioned the theater i went to we all were laughing 😂
Unfriended 2 is so good. Really love the dark web theme.
Butterfly Kisses was great, definitely a worthy entry.
Don’t know if it’s everyone’s cup of tea, but I heard of “Be My Cat: A Film for Anne”, and it gave me shivers. A torture filled movie told from the perspective of a man with a promise of making a movie with an actress. Do you mind answering if there is any animal torture in the movie? The title makes me nervous I can't tolerate it at all
Not really, the “cat” in the title is a reference to the cat woman superhero. The sadistic man is really infatuated by her, which was a main reason for finding an actress.
A nice, refreshing, list with some films I've genuinely not heard of!
I didn't realize that Bad Ben was more than a video game! Thank you, WhatCulture Horror, for opening my eyes.
Solid list! Butterfly Kisses was a pleasant surprise I found on Tubi. Thrilled to see Savageland recommended, loved it!
The Tunnel was one of the best horror movies I've ever seen, it chilled me to the bone.
Deadstream and The Cleansing Hour would be good additions
I don't think "The Cleansing Hour" is found footage? It's good, though!
Yeah, true, it falls into the internet age version of that along with Unfriended and some others.
Savageland was so good. Those pictures are creepy af.

I'm sad that it seems like everyone has forgotten "Atrocious." I thought it was pretty good. (Spanish movie from 2011)
Is that the really disturbing crime one?
@@Joemama55122 It's about a family that goes on vacation and the teenage siblings investigate a local scary legend with their camera, not knowing that they are personally involved in the legend.
Ah ok a different film
Where to watch it?
Leaving D. C. is a slow burn fantastic found footage movie that deserves to be seen more.
'Savageland' is one of the coolest and most underrated FF films IMO! Such a cool take on how to tell a story. 100% worth seeking out if you haven't seen it!

Slow burn, but creepy.
The Grave Encounters and Hell House films and Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum are quite worth the watch. Don’t know that any are really obscure, but they weren’t massive cinema hits.
The Tunnel was a gift in terms of the tunnel's claustrophobic feel, hybrid found footage effort.
Love Frankenstein’s Army. It’s gory, but interesting.
"Savageland" was fantastic. "The Conspiracy" was good too.
Definitely agree with The Tunnel and Devils Doorway. I’d add Digging Up The Marrow and The Fear Footage Trilogy
For those not so familiar with found footage horrors another recommendations should be for example:

Apollo 18
The Gracefield incident (2017)
Hangar 10 (Rendlesham UFO incident) (2014)
Area 51 - I love the atmosphere of strangeness in this one, for me one of the best FF alien films
Devil’s pass
The Bay
Speaking about top tier found footage (as in one of previous comments) mine favorites are
Paranormal Activity (2007)
REC (2007)
Cloverfield (2008)
District 9 (2008)
The Bay was way better than it had any right to be. I particularly enjoyed the special features. Director was like, "how do I raise awareness? I should do a documentary. No,noone will watch that. I KNOW, FOUND FOOTAGE HORROR FLICK."
The Hell House and Grave Encounters movies are upper tier for me, especially because they are quite scary.
Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is also really good, even as kinda a Korean answer to Grave Encounters. It has enough Eastern cultural elements to differentiate it too.
The Tunnel was really good
So many great films on this list! I mean, Bad Ben was on there too, but mostly just great stuff!
SPREE is UNDERRATED! Dewey from Scream is in it too
Instant click i fucking love found footage
Spree is such a good movie! You never know what's going to happen .
The Conspiracy was GREAT. Love it.
seen all of these and was pleasantly surprised to see them on the list! I agree, they're overlooked gems~
Trolljegeren (Trollhunter), a norwegian movie, that is definitly worth a watch too ;-)
Luv FF !! A film I saw years ago.."My Little Eye" was very good imo🍿🍻 not sure if it fits the genre...It's not mentioned a lot

The cannibal in the jungle - one of my favs, plus Hell House and REC
Savageland is so underrated and so good. Especially if you tell ppl to watch it but you act like the guy is guilty.
The dangerous thing about Found Footage Horror is that when done right it's incredible, when done bad then it's really REALLY bad. There is often no grey area.
I'm so happy to see Savageland on this list. I think it's an excellent movie, that doesn't get all the love it deserves.
Aussie horror is the best my fave country for horror films
My favourite country for metal bands
@@grahamcarroll30 yeah depends on genre for metalcore defo for extreme metal its up there too
Dash cam I found really cool & had legit scares
Savageland is a fantastic film that is definitely worth a watch, and Butterfly Kisses is almost as good.
7:21 I wouldn't exactly call having drake as an executive producer a selling point. that's like using "directed by roman polanski" as an endorsement.
Roman Polanski is an awesome director, just an awful human being. I don't know how to compare Drake to anything that would motivate anyone to a watch a horror movie.😂
The Conspiracy
Children of Sorrow (Trigger warning for those that have been groomed)
Noroi
I’ll come back with some more.
Bad Ben takes place in my home state. My aunt even lives in Egg Harbor Township
Thanks for this, because I thought savage land was just gonna be a crime movie lol now I'm gonna watch it
Death of a Vlogger
Most on Tubi FYI
Once I watched kind of FF movie "Skew" (2011). It's not hidden gem but it's ok I guess. It's weird enough to divide people into "loving it" and "hate it".
The Bad Ben Series is Fun.
Okay serious question, how is Invoking Yell considered a Hidden Gem when it isn’t even out yet?
I'm a huge fan of The Devil's Doorway.
Butterfly Kisses is really scary.
Grave Encounters
The house that October built
Hell House
where can I watch Invoking Yell please?
Lost all hope when you listed Bad Ben.
No love for the last broadcast??
One of the very first ( before Blair Witch) found footage horror movies & IMO still one of the very best.❤
Noctem!!! The possesion michael king...and deborah logan...
Wish you listed where to watch each movie in the comments
Hard to do as streaming services change frequently.
FINALLY The Devil's Doorway gets some love!
I
TOP FIVE!
2:49 Permanermal Activity.
Me gusta que pongas el año de las películas, saludos.
7:55 Frankie Grande
Bad Ben movies are awful.
They remind me of something a friend filmed while drunk over the weekend yet still feels they are awesome at movie making on their new I Phone. And then forces everyone to watch it...twice😢😂

too much yapping before you actually talk about the movie.
So a fully female cast in a found footage film is a breath if fresh air? Really?
What a bunch of woke nonsense. Hope someone can explain why that is.

Loved it, ending was a bit anti-climatic though.
What about the VHS series? I never see them included on any of these list
