I wish more games would bring these systems back. I'd have more of a motivation to replay games if I knew I could work hard to unlock really cool features instead of paying real money.
I want a Fable 2 remaster. That game had so much to unlock. From destroying all 100 hidden Gargoyle heads to sacrificing 10 people and your spouse to a cult (and yes the sword is worth it). All of the demon doors, hell with 1 million gold you can become the king.
@Dionysian Beast iirc you have to beat sigrun and her bishes again to get the full set but it is definitely kinda sorta worth it. Very fun but your damage doesn't quite become insane like I had hoped
Same. But some games 1 player games I would like them to have an option to buy it. Like RE2 I don’t think I’m good enough to beat the game in 2 and a half hours. But there’s an option where you can buy the infinite weapons.
First Half both, and maybe people dont think worth grinding or spending time on unlocking these items, and the companies rather put these content as dlc when its possible
Yeah I remember I used to play religiously because I wanted recon and blue flames but you had to beat some bungie employees to get I took hundreds of hours but I finally got it
@@stevorules1820 Well the skills being only unlockable after the game is for you to have fun and try them all without taking the weight off of deciding "what to upgrade next? " thought the main game.

Lmao 😂 I used to have a friend that was more addicted to WOW than I’ve ever seen anyone be addicted to any game. He literally played like 10-12 hours a day everyday for months
The counter to these ring's from Ds2, most weapons cause you to take certain stances or use certain attacks. If you are big into PvP, you will likely recognize the moveset and can just operate on memory. Magic still makes partical effects, so you can't stealth cast or fire arrows/bolts and just get away with it. These rings are helpful, but they aren't really win buttons. 1 exception is baiting someone into a Dual Smelter Sword weapon art, but the build up takes a little bit, so it still can be dodged if the opponent fights defensively. Also, you better know your own weapon's range and sweet spots by heart. Because you also can't see your own weapons.
All of the ultimate weapons in Onimusha Dawn of Dreams. Each character had to make it to the final floor, floor 100 of the dark realm, in order to get their ultimate weapon. And it's not easy. I personally needed an Action Replay to do it.
That dug up some good memories damn shame I lost my save with my ps2. I got them all except for one character it was more of a grind and massive waste of time than challenging to me at least. Might of talked myself into replaying it from scratch 😋
Recruiting Priam in Fire Emblem Awakening. On his own he's a tough fight, but you also have to deal with the adds on the map. Even on the easiest difficulty you might be hard-pressed to beat the map without losing a unit. Granted, he's not the hardest Paralogue boss per se, but he's worth recruiting for his offensive power and the range of skills he can learn from training in various classes. Not to mention, his sword Ragnell, which was Ike's legendary weapon, is incredibly powerful, though it has limited uses. But with the right stat training and skill combination, it's possible to never have to expend a use on it.
I remember when i unlocked Gouken in Street Fighter 4 having to adhere to the seemingly crazy conditions of 2 perfects, 3 ultra finishes, 5 first attacks and no continues, i was crazy proud of myself for unlocking him.
Hey, thumbs up for the Umaro and Gogo mention. I remember getting to Gogo's dungeon on accident in the 90's and finding him/her, such a great character.
next to weapon in new ac series.. u can only get after u explore the world and finish the story.. and the u can upgrade all weapon to legendary tier, of course by grinding the material.. all hardwork 👌🏻✨
One item that I found very satisfying to acquire is the Orbital Strike Laser in Ace Combat 3 (international version). You had to get an a ranking on every level on expert difficulty. You couldn't just blow everything up though, no, some missions you could, some were timed, and some were just "hey let's do both now, okay?". Getting it however you can single shot any enemy within the game, even bosses, so long as you had a target lock on them. After going through so many loops to get it, well revenge is a dish best served with giant space lasers.
Getting the Handcannon in RE4 is just for giggles as by then you should have the Infinite RL and the Chicago Typewriter but man, tearing around the maps in The Mercenaries with each character was a blast...
Awesome list, would like to see more of these kind of lists. As many of us I hate microtransactions, unlockables in games should just be earned, not bought
A few of my favorite unlockables: Sleeper Simulant - Destiny 2 Ring of Favor and protection - Dark Souls 3 Pontiff's left and right eyes - Dark Souls 3 Windshear - Skyrim Summon Karstaag - Skyrim Konahrik - Skyrim Nightingale Armor - Skyrim Deathbrand Armor - Skyrim Mehrunes Razor - Skyrim skyrim has a lot of good unlockables and idk why none appeared in the video
the only game i know of that has a features like this unlockable items is fallout 76. yeah ik it sounds weird but there are actually a couple of items in the game that you dont actually have to pay for, you have to solve puzzles for them and on top of that these are unmarked quests. for example the nuka cola T-51 power armor paint, you had to actually find a small foot locker somewhere in the world and find a key/note(it's been awhile i dont remember). then you had to try and find where the next footlocker/toolbox was. you basically had to go to different parts of the map finding these toolboxes until you finally found a key that was used to open a small storage bunker, then once u opened the bunker you got your hands on the schematic that allowed make that paint. it's pretty cool and satisfying when you finally get it, cause first of all not everyone knows how to get it and two it's a little easter egg from fallout 4's nukaworld dlc.
I think you guys might have it wrong.. Recon armor wasn't the one you unlock when you finish all achievements. It's Security helmet and Katana. Recon was only unlockable by getting it from the website for doing some achievements, or being apart of the bungie team. BUT they did give everyone a set back in 2012. When you finish all the achievements (completing the campaign) you'll get the security helm and katana. In my personal opinion security helm and katana were way harder to get over recon.
I dont normally go for loot like these because I generally done have the time, but one I did get was the best armor in horizon zero dawn, I forget how it was done (probably not overly challenging) but I was super excited when I got it
I honestly wish unlocking armor in Halo MCC was still a thing. Even though there are still some aspects of unlocking armor, getting Hayubasa, Recon, ODST etc was much more rewarding back when.
The water sword from PPWW is my favourite of the list. I remember going in the room and seeing the white circles on the floor and working out for myself how to activate it. I had no idea what was to gain by getting them all lit up but when I did it felt amazing! (This was pre-RUclips for me btw) Also I unlocked a green sword too which I liked. The game has some good weapons tbf. I liked the PP franchise, really was a shame when it got axed.
Yea and that Altair armor if I recall correctly you also needed to get it to finish the game. I remember being so proud of myself because I usually don’t go out of my way to do side stuff like that only for the last mission to come up and me realize I would’ve needed to do it anyway 😂
Thank you for mentioning Recon. Kinda sucks it ended up being given away :( Vidmasters were soooo fucking challenging. If you saw someone with Recon, you understood their grind.
It still to this day pisses me off that they just randomly made that armor free for everyone after all the grinding some of us did to earn it. Once they did that it made it feel so much less special to have

Einhander’s Unknown Fighter Type 1...had to finish the entire game on 1 life and unlock all S bonus on Hard mode...took me 8 months to unlock it actually
Oh man, i remember years ago, i had Recon in Halo 3 I don't know if it was a glitch or what, but i went to play, and it was unlocked. didn't complete vidmaster or anything, i actually hadn't even finished the campaign yet
I really liked Perfect Dark for N64. All the unlockables felt good to 100 % the game. I felt just as good when I found out about the upside down castle in Castlevania Symphony Of The Night and getting all the summons and spells. I love unlockables.
The Mayan armor im AC black Flag isnmy favorite. You still get to fight and are not invicible so you still have fun, but you can totally forget about people shooting at you
I only got it in 2 because I couldn't ever find a raid party (joined a little late into the game's life and too many people in the parties I did join didn't know what i was talking about) so...yeah. Also kind of a solo person
Unlabored Flawlessness from Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black. Really figured it would be on this list. To get it you upgrade the wooden sword to it's max upgrade slot. I think it was seven or eight times.
In Resident Evil 4, to get the hand cannon you not only have to beat mercenaries with every character, you have to beat every level with every character and achieve top score. I did this back on ps2 just to be a completionist. I didn’t even know you got the hand cannon. It was not easy, by far not easy... I still have my ps2 save with it lol
The RE7 segment should have been about the circular saw over the infinite ammo. Infinite ammo/weapons are a given with ever RE game, the circular saw is totally unique to RE7. Its one of the best gaming melee weapons I’ve ever known, cutting through enemies like leaves with a hedge trimmer.
the ds2 rings are easier than people think. you can do it in ng+ you can just farm rotten souls and hold onto them then go ng+ and break all the souls to let you enter the shrine of winter skipping right to the castle.
I wonder if the next top 10 unlockable would add assassin's creed 4 where you can unlock a legendary armor that makes you invisible to bullets or the assassin's swords which you can get by completing every assassination assignment or the golden guns that you get by doing every naval contract mission
Socom for PSP. It had these pay to win characters wicht dealt like twice as damage as the unlockeable ones in the main game. So in the pvp online content everybody paid for those character and was nearly impossible to beat anybody. Except for just 1 character that you could unlock free, or rather, by beating all stages in the game in 5 stars, something not fast or easy. It took me a lo to unlock the guy and been able to play online pvp fairly. But I was proud of it.
Good luck people have been wanting a sequel to that series for years. Unforunantly it's owned by Ubisoft, aka EA wanna be, meaning unless it's loaded down to the point of pay for everything it won't happen.
What about the ishak pasha's armor in assassins creed :revelations You have to collect all ishak pasha memoirs around the map without help (you can only know their location on the map after getting a expensive map after getting a high level) and you have to complete a whole giant mosque filled with parkour. But the health it gives is amazing
RE4 had great unlockables, but lets be honest here the best unlockable was the armor suit for Ashley. Unkillable AND unable to be carried away makes her significantly less of a headache
And also so basically , with the dark souls rings, basically it’s hardcore mode. No checkpoints and no deaths. So if you die, you have to start completely from the start.
Wouldn’t it make sense to make the list with games created after the rise of pay to win unlockables? There were some stuff in the older days that unlocked some things like Knuckles in Sonic 2, but pay to win content was never an issue until much later.
8:11 The Recon armor was top tier reward, but it wasn't the BEST reward by a long shot. The best reward a player could obtain was the flaming helmet. Flaming chest piece to be exact that has fire coming out the neck lol. Any helmet you use will have flames coming from your it. The rarest of the the rare rewards. Next to a nameplate. Nah: Recon Armor reward Yeah: Flaming Helmet reward And the Bungie website was for players to keep track on your stats, friends stats, enemies stats, match heat maps, patch notes, keep track on updates, forums, events, and so on. It was a great feature along side the Halo games. Especially Halo 3, Halo: ODST, and Halo Reach. It was I think the first to take competitive multiplayer that far without it being a 3rd party fan made website. So many games no keep track of stats online through their websites without you having to log on the Xbox to look at anything. THATS why they directed players to the website. Can't complain you couldn't see your last match info when Bungie is Will Smith directing you toward the damn website that has all of that and a bag of chips.
I wish you'd have explained Recon armour better... that shit took 4 years to not be bungie staff exclusive or granted by them, whenever there was a flaming head in the lobby people just went NUTS. The community was desperate for it and there were all these rumours about how to unlock it 😂
I consider the Emil boss ending in nier automata and getting all of the endings on the list cause the only way to get that ending is by getting all weapons and maxing them out huge pain just getting every ending is a huge achievement In my opinion
Wasn't Recon armor in Halo 3 originally given out by Bungie themselves to people that stood out in the community? It was way harder to get it before the Vidmaster challenges.
I wish more games did this, especially when trophy hunting. Capcom, Rockstar, Bethesda (I know), are some of the only game companies that still give challenges/achievements that actually reward players with more than just said achievement. Edit: Notice how a good chunk of these are from older titles.
I’m not too fond of remakes, games/movies. But honestly, if they could do a remake of each of the prince of Persia games (talking just graphics, similar to how they’ve been doing the Resident Evil games) I would purchase in a heartbeat.
I wish more games would bring these systems back. I'd have more of a motivation to replay games if I knew I could work hard to unlock really cool features instead of paying real money.

Post that, they struggle to gaf.
Throwback to the old resident evil games , grinding for infinite ammo was awesome
Notice how most of these games are a decade + old. Not all, but most.
Truly was the golden age
just to let us remember how crappy this day and age is
But do you think this is because all current games are pay to win, or because the unlocks now aren’t worth talking about?
First Half both, and maybe people dont think worth grinding or spending time on unlocking these items, and the companies rather put these content as dlc when its possible
What bullshit
The title of this video alone almost gave EA executives a heart attack.

RE4 had great unlockables, but lets be honest here the best unlockable was the armor suit for Ashley. Unkillable AND unable to be carried away makes her significantly less of a headache
That mega buster was a bitch to get and after I unlocked it, I don’t think I even played the game ever again lmao
And also so basically , with the dark souls rings, basically it’s hardcore mode. No checkpoints and no deaths. So if you die, you have to start completely from the start.
Every Devil May Cry series. If you beat Dante Must Die mode, you'll unlock a Super Costumes with unlimited Devil Trigger.
Golden armor in Doom Eternal is definitely a great one if you ever make a part 3
Wouldn’t it make sense to make the list with games created after the rise of pay to win unlockables? There were some stuff in the older days that unlocked some things like Knuckles in Sonic 2, but pay to win content was never an issue until much later.
The unmaykr or gold armor from Doom Eternal feel like such an accomplishment
Recon armor is was totally worth every single minute
8:11 The Recon armor was top tier reward, but it wasn't the BEST reward by a long shot. The best reward a player could obtain was the flaming helmet. Flaming chest piece to be exact that has fire coming out the neck lol. Any helmet you use will have flames coming from your it. The rarest of the the rare rewards. Next to a nameplate.
Nah: Recon Armor reward
Yeah: Flaming Helmet reward
And the Bungie website was for players to keep track on your stats, friends stats, enemies stats, match heat maps, patch notes, keep track on updates, forums, events, and so on.
In Skyrim, if you spend enough time, you can make any OBJECT insanely good.
I wish you'd have explained Recon armour better... that shit took 4 years to not be bungie staff exclusive or granted by them, whenever there was a flaming head in the lobby people just went NUTS. The community was desperate for it and there were all these rumours about how to unlock it 😂
Unlocking Cloud in Final Fantasty Tactics was cool
I consider the Emil boss ending in nier automata and getting all of the endings on the list cause the only way to get that ending is by getting all weapons and maxing them out huge pain just getting every ending is a huge achievement In my opinion
Lamfo watching the battlefield one gives me ptsd from getting the dice camo in battle Feild 4
Well, I'm not the one who play RE4 but it's satisfying to see Leon blast everyone with infinite launcher 😂😂
Hayabusa was the coveted armour back in the day. i miss halo 3 days :(
Wasn't Recon armor in Halo 3 originally given out by Bungie themselves to people that stood out in the community? It was way harder to get it before the Vidmaster challenges.
The potato suit in GOW: Chains of Olympus
I wish more games did this, especially when trophy hunting. Capcom, Rockstar, Bethesda (I know), are some of the only game companies that still give challenges/achievements that actually reward players with more than just said achievement.
Edit: Notice how a good chunk of these are from older titles.
Black desert online carrack boat. It takes around 3 months to craft it, not a single part can be bought with real money
The BF4 Phantom Bow should've had a place here too. Still kinda pissed they gave it to everyone for free a month after I unlocked mine but oh well
Peacekeeper pistol in BF1 is the best easter egg weapon I've ever seen
The 7 xp one was like the only one I needed 2
I remember the Vidmaster stuff in Halo. I had one more to do but then it came out fo free. It was frustrating.
I remember getting the hand cannon in RE4 and fully upgraded it would take down one of those giant troll things in one shot lol
My Fav unlockable was AC2 because I'm revisiting the game and currently have 3 seals of 6 xD
I’m not too fond of remakes, games/movies. But honestly, if they could do a remake of each of the prince of Persia games (talking just graphics, similar to how they’ve been doing the Resident Evil games) I would purchase in a heartbeat.
