I blew a ton of time watching photography videos today and this is the first one that made me smile and relieved. How direct, smart, and thoughtful your assessments are. Thank you. Sending respect from Brooklyn
Thanks for your insights, Quintavius. I've gotten a Leica 21mm Super Angulon and just begun shooting it on an M3. I followed you via Instagram and look forward to sharing my own images made with this lens there. I realize that this video is a couple of years old. I like your presentation style and hope that you're still active, I look forward to seeing more of your content.
I really enjoyed this video! I am fortunate in that I was able to purchase a nice copy of the 21mm Super Elmar, received last Friday. I am planning a trip up to Santa Fe and am looking forward to using this lens. I have historically only used 21mm for landscape (Nikon), excited about the possibilities!
Great video, enjoyed that immensely. The new 3.4 doesn’t have the protruding element on the rear of the lens. I recently bought an older 2.8 and seem to use it more regularly than the other lenses I have.
I tried the newer 3.4 and its nice but lacks the close focusing and character that the older one has. I imagine the 2.8 is much sharper than my copy, though.
Before my M6, I shot with a Contax G1 with a 21mm f/2.8 lens. When I purchased my M6, I purchased a 21mm Summilux. Thankfully, the Contax 21mm accessory viewfinder works with my Leica.
maaaaan the 2 photos at 8:25 and 8:28 are pure gold! so much detail ! what scanner do you use bro? your results are insane! do you also use negative lab pro?
Tatooing photo in 8:26 is just outstanding. I'm just jealous of the amount of interesting places you have access to and how easy it comes for you to photograph strangers.
Cool video. Liked of course. Besides, where do you find girls like at 0:45 ? That’s an awesome image. Someone else also aware of the dagger tattoo what makes the story perfect? The Apple watch does not fit in 😂
Thank you! I use the 16mm f/1.4 on my Fuji and the 28mm f/2.8D on my Nikon bodies and love them! One can get just as close and make some incredible photos! The fuji 16mm f/1.4 is one of my favorite lenses EVER.
@@quintaviusoliver8149 same here . It was actually the second lens I bought for the X System 2 years ago. The minimum focus distance is insane ! I also own the 28 1.8g for my Nikon system and should be just as awesome!
Hey Q, great video, man. I haven't watched a lot of gear videos lately, but really enjoyed this one. Yeah man, I think the imperfections that certain gear or film can introduce, the more interesting the photos are. Totally agree, man. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks brother.
Thanks! And I do make prints. Currently, I’ve got one hanging in the museum of contemporary art here in Atlanta, ga. Two more are going into the permanent collection at the museum of fine art in Houston next week 😊
Hi Q, I am really digging your channel. I love your style, your great eye, and overall approach. It's refreshing to see people pics with your 21mm. The SEM 21mm has been my dream lens for a long time and I am finally going to get it later this year. I'm selling a bunch of things and I'll pick up an OG SL or perhaps the SL2-s and the SEM 21. It may be my only lens for quite a while but holy wowzers man, your portraits with it are wonderful. We all know they can do buildings and that sort of thing. You're right up in there and getting close and it's not creepy and your subjects come across as confident. That says a lot about you. Respect!
You might look at the Contax finder. I got mine for about $120. Might or might not be your cup of tea. I like the good eye relief. Works nicely with my Fuji X-Pro3 and a 14. I have the stupid expensive (Now. Not when I bought it) metal Leica one that you showed. Super inconspicuous but not optically that wonderful, frankly. The leica plastic one was better optically. (and cheaper) if I remember correctly.
Hi there. I live in Atlanta and was wondering if there are any Leica groups that meet up or if you do any workshops. Also understand Covid may have an impact on those kinds things so future events would be great too.
Thanks! I've been using the excuse that my lenses are investments just in case I need to send my kid to college later. Maybe the price will go up even more absurdly haha.
Any tips on how to approach a subject that you don't know personally? Love your work dude been following for a while on insta, good to see some videos too
Lucious Smith What’s good bro 💪🏾 honestly... what frame lines? 😂 the 21mm makes the M a point and shoot on steroids but I image the Ricoh GR21 is the only real point and shoot one could compare it to.
Haha touché. I haven’t gone wider than 28mm on my Ms....definitely second the in-ya-faceness with the wide angles tho! We gotta link up and shoot sometime bro!
Love my 1959 21mm 1:4 Super-Angulon. It is the everyday lens on my M8. Superb rendering. I use it without the external finder and it works great. I hear you Quintavius. All street photographers have to decide their own ethical boundaries as to how close they can go to a subject who has not asked to be photographed. I use my own rule of thumb as to how close I would want another street photographer to get to me before I would feel that personal space has been invaded. For me that is about 2 meters. So I use tele lenses for my street photography. And I use heavily cropped sensors to get deep focus even on 100mm lens equiv shots. But everyone to their own style. When I shoot I don't like to talk to people., because it slows me down. I don't go out for conversation but to capture the reality of the streets as you or I would see it without a camera. I take my shot and move on. But as I said we are all different. How much push back to you get when you get 21mm lens close?
Finally a Leica review with a dude who can actually take photos. Rare in Leica world. ;)
8:49 this picture is a master piece. WOW!
Robert Capa, the photographer whom you quoted at the beginning of this video paid with his life because he got too close.

sick photos mate. Those street portraits look incredible
bravo nice photos
I love my 24mm. Thar, and my 135mm, and I'm set! If your photos aren't good enough...
Really enjoyed your photos and insight. Thank you

You did a great job of sharing all the info about this lens. It’s really fun watching you speak about something you love.
You had me at "count on not putting your kids through school...." Loved the review, thank you!!
Just got this lens. Awesomeness is mine.
beautiful glass! I got 28mm this week and will try this before I try 21mm !!
Good stuff 👍🏼
Cheating... Check what Ansel Adams did in the darkroom to reach the optimal end result ;)
These photos are stunningly beautiful! and your report on market price of this lens is accurate, which is rare on RUclips… subscribed
Some really good images , well done 👍
I had a 21mm elmarit-m which was fab but the close focus thing really is fantastic. I am looking for one of these now. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the lesson, you're a natural teacher....

You nailed it again. I've a 21 mm too for my M240 for special occasions !!

Appreciate it!

Amazing work Quintavius Oliver. Congrats
Nice one, thanks a lot! Next time in Atlanta I'll try to find those better places.
Had a 25mm voigtlander that got me out of my comfort zone as you said. Now I want this to make me even more uncomfortable. Crazy shots man
Stellar video, Q. Very inspiring. Your video on the M246 has inspired me to get one of those, as well!

Great review. Luv seeing folks explore wide angle beyond architectural and landscape.
great shots. And it focuses closer than modern 21mm
Thanks! And yep! I was really surprised the Leica didn't stick with the super close focus lenses.
I've been watching many of your videos now and honestly your channel is so helpful as well as your videos being very informative and captivating.
Damn. You shoot so well. 🔥

I am noticing the lack of distortion on the anatomy at close up, Sweet.
Spectacular photos. WHere's the book? I would definitely buy it. Suggested title: "In Your Face" ;-)
This video (and couple of others from you like this) have by far the BEST lighting setup what i've seen in youtube vlogs. Fucking love this.
How are you shooting off the bike! Especially the highway shot.
Hi there. I live in Atlanta and was wondering if there are any Leica groups that meet up or if you do any workshops. Also understand Covid may have an impact on those kinds things so future events would be great too.
Hi thank you very much but I did get the Zeiss 21mm F2.8 I believe it better than the Leica 21mm 2.8. Have you try the Zeiss 21mm?
Hi Oliver! Great video, thanks! I have a question…does my m10 works with this lens? I heard that it makes false colour. Its true?
thanks for the video very informative

Most definitely! New video going live tonight!
Hi will test the Leica M 21mm F3.4 Vs Zeiss 21mm f2.8 Biogon, which one will be better?
Will the 21mm Super Angulon fit on my SL?
Thanks! Inspring.
thank you
Is your lens R mount or M mount? Do R and M mount have the same 20mm focus distance?
You are pretty cool!
I love sister-fro-love.
