The townspeople always seem to side with total strangers rather than the Cartwrights who are always helping others. A few flattering lies is all it takes for the town to turn. And how many times does the sheriff get locked up in his own jail? Love this show. It was the best. The cast made it so believable.
I think I read somewhere, though Joe changed horses a few times during the show, Ben used the same one. Even though Lorene didn’t enjoy riding much, but he paid for keepings of his horse to the end. That is so wonderful and sweet. What a wonderful soul.

Loved seeing the mother cat and her kittens at the end. I know it had nothing to do with the storyline, but it reminded me of the pets we had when I was a kid. Nice memory!
Clarence is literally one of the few villains I've ever hated by far on Bonanza. He puts on the cheery facade but at the same time plans out revenge against Hoss in one of the most unusual ways.
Does anyone remember that other episode like this where a singer followed Hoss everywhere for accidentally killing his brother? I'm surprised that they'd have two episodes so alike.
I sure like seeing again the Bonanza show I remember watching on Sunday nights growing up. Many years later riding the California Zephyr AMTRAK train that went through Reno I remembered the Ponderosa was nearby from the map shown at the start of the episodes. Thanks for placing on RUclips.

Half these episodes are the Cartwrights being generous and kindhearted while dealing with dirtbags. So Hoss accidentally killed a guy who was trying to kill him; nothing wrong with that.
And remember, the guy looked like he was about to attempt to rape the woman. That was the main issue. Both of the brothers seemed like real dirtbags. "The Smiler" was a good title. A man with a fake smile hiding a dark heart.

Today people pay lots of money hoping their loved one will be dry and in an air tight casket. All caskets leak and that’s why family isn’t allowed to be at the gravesite when casket is dug up and transferred to another burial site. Families will figure out lots of money was paid for nothing.

Time and time again the Cartwrights are proven honest and correct, and many times even save the town, and yet time and time again the town's people accuse and disbelieve the Cartwrights. I like this show, I grew up on this show, but the premise ( of the town's people ) is ridiculous.

Yes, I know Hoss was fearing for his life in jail, but man that was stupid of him to take the gun. He should've known Bolling had dropped it in the cell just to bait him. And the peddler was infuriatingly manipulative with his lies and phony benevolent manner.
I loved his cunning and scheming. He didn't have brute strength or gun skills or power but he used his words and charm to attack Hoss. And he almost succeeded in causing Hoss' death, just with those weapons. Brilliance if you ask me.

(It doesn't make sense that they would so easily believe that Hoss would burn the peddler's wagon. Should have shown some people not believing it, arguing, but whatever, only so much time.) 24:07 Teaching the song was a nice touch. Wow. Creative. I'm a little disappointed about him becoming so blatant with the woman. I think that it was better when it was subtle manipulation that could be debated... Ah, they went for a gunplay ending instead of the trial. Disappointing. I would have liked to see them carry the mind play through to the trial but they fell back on gunplay. Perhaps that's what audiences want. Or they're too scared to not have any gunplay in an episode.

Also another thing, the woman goes to go see the Sharif right after ben leaves the house. He is right outside the door and she has the guy pull a knife/switch blade on her. She could scream for help! I know hes got a knife but ben right there.

My God. any person should have known, "Im set up and leave that gun alone". Upstanding family like the Cartwright's stooping down to this level, is impossible to believe. Then the big oaf runs just like a criminal. classic blooper.

Bonanza wasn't the same after Adams departure. And sudden passing of Hoss was terribly sad . Hoss was like big papa bear 2 quite a few on the show .
I haven't seen a lot of Bonanza episodes but this one stands out for some reason.

All of those people in Virginia City knew Hoss and yet they believed the wirds of a mentally insane man.

The show ended about 6 months after Hoss passed away. Everybody loves Hoss. Pernell (Adam) Roberts left the show in 1965.
