The woman at the end of AWW was the absolute version of Veronica Cale basically Wonder Woman's Lex Luther
Hyde Street has so much more than a horror anthology. I figure the Residents are demons of some sort, but guessing whether they want redemption or not. It's wild.
It’s a fantastic series to this point. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
21:24 I think the lack of actual family dynamic/development is more of a knock against whatever Hickman’s trying to do with this story than it is Pete being married. There’s plenty of opportunity to involve his family, even if they don’t show them interacting directly, they’ve just been squandered
Exactly. I want to see what they're going through while Peter is gone. The implication of their pain is there, but what about the reality of it? I'm not against the marriage/the kids or anything. I just don't want them to be decorations.
I think the month by month narrative would benefit by larger page count, like Ultramega. I know that would up the price, but being tied to 22 pages is limiting what we are seeing. The first issue of USM was about 40 pages and that is the only issue that everyone can agree was great, and it fit a lot of shit in there. I think it would be more satisfying. Although, i know that isn't how comics are done normally. But this isn't supposed to be a normal book.
I agree of course, but it's just not feasible unfortunately. Marco Checchetto isn't able to keep up with the monthly grind as it is, adding more pages would mean we'd see a lot less of him or a lot less of this book.
Great show Pals. Love how this show and crew always speaks their personal truths about these books. Side note : panel of the week goes to Superman for the Doomsday/Sups back to back double page spread. So good.
Thanks dude, appreciate you tuning it. That part of this show will never change. Yeah that panel went so hard! Awesome book.
We need a prequel series before Peter got his powers. Build up his kids,mj, Ben, etc. cause we are definitely not getting it any time soon. Where’s the daughter? Are they going to switch her out months later, being older, like My Wife and Kids or George Lopez show. Of course, probably not, but the dissatisfaction is there.
A prequel series feeling needed is a big problem too. We just haven't spent enough time with his supporting cast to feel their relationship. I love books that have flaws too, I just can't wrap my head around why it's not okay to point them out with this book.
Sean 😂😂 cracking mu up. I’m so sorry I missed the live show. USM was good but I’m pissed 😡 because I felt like I was teased again with this book and didn’t deliver. I left feeling I wanted more .
Hey man I'm glad you enjoy the rants lol. Feeling like you want more is generally a good thing, but this book never gives us that 'more'.
I’m just gonna reiterate this one more time for the streets… Sean, I have had a pull list at 4 different locations over the past decade, this is not how a pull list works. I have always got my books bagged and boarded for free and 15% off, and even during the busiest of times, as soon as I approach the register, they pull out the whole stack without missing a beat ON WEDNESDAY. So sorry you’ve had horrible luck there
It's definitely frustrating and why I cancelled my pull list. A shockingly different experience than what I anticipated.
100% agree that one month structure is hurting the pacing and narrative in USM. I wonder if it will read better in trades. Love the show and hearing everyone's opinion.
It could, although I think the structure will make even less sense in that format. A person reading this 5 years from now isn't going to understand why the book is structured that way. Thanks for the love!
Sean standing on business was awesome alot people give that book a pass because of the state of main series
Yeah man, I'm not the streamer who's going to say what I think people want to hear. There are other channels for that.
great show, had me laughin' as always and had a great time. Agree with you, Ultimate SM and Absolute WW taking too long, but the story and art in both is too good to ignore, wish it just picked up its pace.
Glad you had a good time listening! As long as you're having fun and laughing I consider that mission accomplished for the stream.
I expect Sean's roasting of Ultimate Spider-Man to get some heat, even if he might have good points. But guess what we're reading volume 1 of for book club in March...
That's fine by me! it's all subjective ultimately, but I don't think anyone can make an argument that there's not validity to what I'm saying. Whether you like the book in spite of those things or not is up to the individual!
Still loved USM and absolute wonder woman. USM has a story to tell, and Peter having the family is an add-on. Marvel marketed as the main selling point (obviously) but I don't mind it not being the 100 % focus from hickman. I'm still having a great time with it every week and I like the nuance it plays with. Is it a book that asks more of its reader? of course. some people are gonna vibe with that and some aren't.
at this point idk why you guys keep talking about it on the show tho. there's many more comics out there you guys could talk about positively and aren't as polarizing. As someone who used to tune in because USM was on the docket. I'm actually going to start doing the opposite. It's like no matter how much I like the issue. I know most of you are just gonna rant about how the book isn't all that or they keep doing smt wrong or is never what you're looking for from it. That's obviously your prerogative, but I know there are other books out this week you guys would've had much more positive things to talk about.
I hear you, and I'm sorry that our feelings make you want to tune out. That being said, this channel and these shows aren't about positivity, they're about honesty. I have no interest in doing a show where I cannot discuss books in an honest way, and if that bothers you I don't really know what to say. USM is a majorly popular book and we're definitely not going to stop reviewing it. It's great that you like it, but I'm not sure why other people's different feelings bother you about what YOU like.
@TheComicsPals let's not get it twisted. Your guys feelings about the book are not affecting my enjoyment of the series at all. Especially when I think some of your criticisms are a bit silly.
I'm not asking you to lie about your feelings for a book. Don't put words in my mouth. But no one's going to question your honesty for not covering a book each month that everyone already knows you won't like.
But why do you want to keep reading it? And is there any reason you want to cover it beyond it just being popular? You guys are clearly done with it.
I never said you asked us to lie about it, so I didn't put any words in your mouth. You're being needlessly antagonistic about a comic we disagree on the quality of. That's a you problem my dude. You're actually putting words in my mouth because I never said I was done with this comic. You would know if I was because you'd HEAR those words coming out of my mouth and wouldn't need to interpret. Let's also keep in mind you're the one that chose to comment and say you won't tune in to the show to hear the reviews. So let's keep it there; I'll do what I want with my show, and you can choose to spend your time however you wish.
"People love spider-man and desperately want him to be married so all sins are forgiven" Keep spitting Sean! I felt crazy that i dont love this series like everyone else seems to, everything seems so undercooked. Hell we barely know our alleged main character Peter. Whats his interests outside of spider-man? Does he have friends outside of harry? How does growing up with his birth parents for the first 15 years of his life and not being super smart distinguish him from 616? Dont worry about any of that he's married thats all you need to know lol
Yeah dude, I’m not about the blind praise of this series. I definitely feel like we can ask and should expect more from Hickman on Spider-Man.
@TheComicsPals Hickman stans and Spider-Man fans make having any legitimate criticisms for this book toxic so you guys having honest thoughts about this book is so refreshing! Keep doing what you guys do 👍
That's why we have main spidey. You can read main spider if you want to feel pathetic
26:02 Nah you’re not crazy, people are just glazing the book because it’s a married family man Pete who isn’t needlessly suffering all the time. The book’s been mid since issue 2 (issue 1 was okay to me, but it was set-up, so I won’t call that mid)
It's a weird thing; I don't actually dislike the book, but I am very disappointed by it month over month. I think if any other book made me feel this way so often I would consider dropping it, but I can't with this one.
@@TheComicsPalsI feel that. I dropped this a few issues ago (still keep up with it via y’all), but the art was the only thing that kept me on for so long. After the first two issues I felt like the potential was all there, but “Spidey’s Greatest Hits” were going to get a speedrun, and more or less that’s what seems to be happening. It’s not a bad thing, just boring.
Even Pete’s son getting the “symbiote” feels like they’re about to lead into the Father vs Son beef that I felt coming from the previews of issues 1. I just want to be surprised by the book, and I haven’t been
Might be dropping Absolute WW soon if it doesn't pick up momentum. We have the concept of WW from hell and so far, she has been stood in offices and shops of a city talking to people for what seems like hours. She should have walked out of that shop st the end of issue 4 with the world looking like DWJ's Dead Earth with all the yapping. It should be so much more wild than this.
Yeah exactly. It feels extremely safe so far. I'm not sure why it's taking so long to get moving, but hopefully within the next couple of issues we can see what Kelly Thompson has in store for us.
