- On February 22, 2020 I flew from Baltimore, MD to San Jose, Costa Rica with with my best friend Brian and his dad, Chris so we could go ride with the Costa Rica Unlimited Dirt Bike Tours.
The views were amazing, the riding was epic and the company was second-to-none. Hope you guys enjoy the first video of the series!

this looks like sooooo much fun!
It was a blast!
Costa Rica Unlimited Dirt Bike Tours is the bomb. The surfing and fishing is too! Nice Ride!
So much fun!
That looked awesome !!
It really was
Great video Mario, that's some gnarly riding that hones our skills & makes us a better overall rider. Mix that with the heat & humidity & you guys did good. I actually drive a 2008 Prius, and I have to say, it's a real workhorse. Sure, it's a sewing machine, but mines got 140k+ miles, I'll done almost nothing, (bought it with 50k & have yet to put brakes on it, seriously), & put about $25 in gas every couple weeks. Meet a guy in Joshua Tree NP that had an 06 prius & had 400k on it, (knows a mech. that can replace individual cells in battery).
Figures you'd land it a sticker bush, ha, we have plenty here in the SoCal desert. The Husky seemed to chug it's way through fairly well, the ruts are ridiculous!
You definitely feel like you accomplished something at the end of the day. I'm used to riding a 250 so appreciated the extra hp of the 350. That think would tractor up anything (as long as you aren't a dummy and running a couple gears high). And yes, those ruts were insane!
I've only had the Prius for about a month now and liking it so far. Nothing exciting but cheap, reliable transportation and they do seem to last a long time. When the battery does start to fail, I'll likely do the route of having the battery reconditioned.
@@2WR Hi Mario, I few things I've learned about the prius, (some you have probably figured out). It's a CVT, so easy throttle app off the line allows the gas engine to turn on, and the cvt to hook up, then you can mash it for the whole 100+hp, (ha, less than your ktm). They struggle with 4 people, especially up laong grades, as battery gets depleted after a while, and the ICE engine isn't very strong, (especially w/ a/c on).
There seems to be a spot of the throttle wear you may hear what sounds like knocking, (especially under partial throttle & up a grade), if you get it more gas, it goes away. Not sure if it has to o w the fact that it's an Atkinson-cycle gas engine.
Use the braking, (re-gen) mode on long downhills & slowing stops to put juice back in battery, but not suppose to run with it on always. There's a back way to Vegas we take, very desolate, mine governs at 108mph, boring, put still getting good mpg, ha.
My dash has tons of rattles, but I take my off-road a lot. My fan isn't real strrong for ventilation, so keep in cab filter, (behind glove-box), clean. The 12V battery is located raer right, a pain to dig out, only use approved Toyota batteries, (or equiv, as there's a lot going on w/ these cars electrics), I don't attempt to jump others cars, although I've heard there may be posts in the engine bay to so so. Mine won't leave the driveway w/out the ice engine coming on, newer ones are much better. You probably know, if you do get stuck, there's a "penal-hook:? located by jack & spare tire, that screws into front bumper. These cars sit low, easy to high-center.
Mine began using a little oil, (humm, I've heard some ktm's can do this, ha), after I got about 125k on it. Research shows it's not uncommon, it's maybe a quart every oil change, (5-6k w/ synthetic).
Happy motoring.
Super cool, awesome video🤙🏽
Thanks!
Oh my god that looks fun!
It was a lot of fun! Also happy I survived day one on the bikes.
Great video Mario, sorry to see you having to drive a Prius!! Goes to show even the best of us have a lapse in judgement from time to time!!🤣🤣😂😂
LOL...never thought I'd own one but saving me a ton of money on the 100 mile round trip commute to work. I know, I know...ride the bike...but it's SUCH a boring ride into the office. Also, thanks about the video!
@@2WR Mario, I hear you man, I can definitely relate. I drive a pickup truck that is always loaded down between 600 and 1000 miles a week and it's a killer. I would have one if I could. Looking forward to the next vid. If you get back down to Daytona in October let me know I'll meet up with you and Kristen and buy you guys a beer.
my friend's Prius driver's window got stuck closed, was going to be $1600 to fix it.
I work on all my own stuff 🤷🏻♂️ And later in the year some woman in a Minivan pulled out in front of my and totaled the car anyway
Awesome! What a great time!
Thanks Ron! And Happy Birthday!
I always wanted to ride at a place like that I now I did. Well sort of. Anyway the only thing I know about a Prius is I took my GMC diesel into the shop once because it wasn't running right and they said they found a Prius stuck in the intake. Seems to run fine now. Waiting for part 2.
Definitely some wild riding down there.
Nice documentary.. did C Rica last December.. was an amazing experience... love to go back and do what u guys did...
Thanks Scott. Was definitely a great time!
Thanks for another good video Mario. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to part 2. I will also be rewatching your editing tip videos that I recommended to some Japanese youtubers, I may not use the same software but my inter webs riding adventure is beginning. Thanks again Bro, I haven't seen any mugs in this yet I guess they may be in part 2. Also your Canada trip got my 70 year old mum hooked and she's never ridden.
Thanks man; much appreciated! Happy to hear your mum enjoyed the Alaska series! Let me know if you have any questions or need any help on any editing stuff.
@@2WR thank you
Love re-living this epic trip!!
For sure. Seeing it from your helmet cam gave me a different perspective too. I just assumed Carlos never made a mistake all day.
I'm not sure I would have made it out of there alive, lol. Epic.
There were plenty of times I didn't think I was going to make it.
Great Video Mario!!! It makes my back hurt just watching it. Cant wait for the next one!
Thanks man! Really appreciate it.
Dang, if I had known you bought a Prius I would’ve treated you to a glass of Chardonnay at Daytona, instead of Budweiser ;)
What an EPIC trip to CR! You had me psyched just telling me about it, but the video just brought it to life. I’m game on!
LOL! Jon, we may have seen the last SX of the season! Glad you enjoyed the video! Crazy fun times and hope the rest of the series gives people an idea of what its like to ride down there.
whats the screaching sound?
cicadas
i was looking into booking with them, did yall rent a car to get to them from sjo or did they pick you up? if you rented a car who did you use? i saw that they offer trasnsfers from the airport... also how was the food?
Rented a car separate
Great video Mario, really well done. I absolutely reached the breaking point on day one too! The waterfall saved me.. Can’t wait for the next vid! -Canada
Waterfall saved u and me both! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Have you learned nothing from Suburban Delinquent?!? Or, even Southpark, for that matter.
Nope...
13:30.... I feel your pain... “d@* sticker bushes”!!
HAHA! Once this stuff passes, I'll see you at the track!
Did they really hold up a piece of barbed wire for you to ride under ….. ;-) Holy $^it
LOL...they did
@@2WR I have watched this twice ........... I am amazed. Glad they were rentals !!!
Thanks for the content.
Damn bro, you were that guy on the trail. You can't see dudes face at 15:35 but you can just imagine. Haha
How many miles did y'all do in a day? Did you have to fuel?
LOL..yes...I was that guy. I don't know exactly how many miles we rode each day but we brought the bikes back on empty each day. (no fill ups) Gonna try to get the rest of the series edited this week.
