    Hi Melissa, nice explained content on how to use this product....there's this obsession of people to use many acids at the same time...I guess we all want fast results...anyway, patience and consistency is the key....also, keeping a simple ( not to many actives) routine makes it easier on the skin....I personally don't use the Paula's choice products but they are very popular and a little bit expensive, in my opinion, ...anyway this is ONE of their best selling products....

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад +1

      Thank you :)
      Yep, I think it's because acids are currently so popular that everyone just want to use them, doesn't matter if they really need them or not...which can be very misleading and maybe not the best solution...therefore, I can't stress it enough to only use them when it's needed haha😂
      I think that at the end of the day, people will get back to the basics and just use the products they really need. Currently everything is so excited that you have to try it all🙈
      I do like Paula's Choice products a lot, they are a bit more expensive but the formulation and feeling of each product are great :) - but that's of course personal preference! :)

    I just discovered you, your videos are VERY HELPFUL and you explain everything in detail very well and straight to the point. It’s very overwhelming with so many products and what to use and how. I have these products and will give it try In this routine. I’m 31 and had clear skin until recently, either hormonal, adult or maskne. Can’t really tell but it’s on chin and jawline only. BUT I’m trying to find the perfect routine. Can you recommend a moisturizer to use in the regimen or one you recommend Please and thank you!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад +1

      Hello 🙂 generally speaking you do not need to use a moisturizer after those products. But since you got it on your chin, it may be best to look for something that's working a bit quicker such as Benzoyl Peroxide. I use this on my chin and forehead and it makes them disappear within a few days.
      If you really want to use a moisturizer, I recommend La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluid or Paula's Choice they have many you just need to pick the one that suits you the most (it's very individual and therefore you need to test it)
      Paula's Choice also has a benzoyl peroxide gel I think 2,5 % should be enough 🙂

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад +1

      Hey!
      Well, the "toner" you are talking about includes exfoliating acids like Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Phytic Acid, but the % of it is not given. I think it's best to not use the "toner" and the Paula's Choice BHA exfoliant in the same routine to avoid skin irritation.
      You may be able to use one in the AM and the other one in the PM or alternate days. See what works best for your skin!
      I haven't tried that many "real" toners, but the ones I like a lot are from Paula's Choice especially the enriched calming toner :)

    Question: after applying these products overnight, my skin feels expectedly dry/tight, do you recommend washing the face in the morning or shall I just rinse with water? Also, would you recommend rehydrating the dry skin with hyaluronic acid for example?
    Many thanks! Dankjewel from Amsterdam!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад +2

      Hello alibizzle21,
      Yes, this combination can make it dry if you do not have very oily skin. So best would be to add hydration after the BHA but before Azelaic Acid. Or using a very light moisturizer in between, Paula's Choice Water-Infusing Electrolyte Moisturiser or the Omega Complex Moisturizer also has a light formulation. (I mean there are many options you need to find the right one for your needs)
      Washing the face in the morning with a cleanser depends on your routine. Personally, I just do it because I record daily content. Therefore, I always use a cleanser, but I mainly use water only on my breaks. It really depends, so you need to see what works best for you 😃

      For how long have you been doing this? 🤔 And have you seen some improvements? Because I think it will not work as good over the long haul, you may need a retinoid such as Differin 0,1% or even tretinoin (prescription) that can help bring the pimples to the surface. You still could use the other products except for the peeling solution. Or just less often (every two weeks)

    I’ve been using the exfoliant for a couple years now but I ended up ruining my skin barrier since I was doing it 3 times a week, and then also using adapalene on separate days and Azelic acid everyday. But this combo did work on me for a while and got rid of my acne but I guess I over did it and ruined my skin barrier. So I had to start over since I had to let my skin barrier go back to normal I stopped using the adapalene since it made me purge and I don’t want to go through that again at the moment I’m using the exfoliant once a week and the azelic acid as spot treat treatment when I get new pimples. I want to increase to two days a week on exfoliating, my question is, do I only use the azleic acid when I use the exfoliant or also on days that I don’t use the exfoliant, is it okay to use it everyday?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 месяца назад +1

      Overall, it really depends on your skin tolerance, which is very individual. However, you could use your Azelaic Acid daily in the AM and use PC BHA a few times per week in the PM, but you could also use Azelaic Acid in the PM when not using the exfoliant. There are different ways you can use them, but, as I said, it depends on what your skin tolerates best.

    I wondered, if use the Paula choice Liquid 2% BHA in my skincare routine, can I also use the Lactic Acid serum 10% from the ordinary in my routine? Will my skin have too much exfoliation?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад

      How often you can exfoliate your skin depends on your skin concerns, age and skin tolerance. Some people can exfoliate 1-2 times daily, whereas others prefer to use it once daily or every other day because if they are using it too often, their skin feels irritated.
      So if you are new to your BHA and Lactic Acid, I recommend using one of them per day (every other day/2-3 times per week) for a while before using them more often so that you can gradually increase the frequency of it (if necessary), but at the same time you will see how your skin reacts to it :)

      Azelaic Acid is usually well-tolerated and shouldn't do that. But with every new active ingredient that you are introducing into your skincare routine, it may happen, yes, since the skin may need time to adjust to it.

      Hello Aminath,
      Yes, you can do that. One example could look like this:
      AM:
      Cleanser
      Hyaluronic Acid
      Azelaic Acid
      (Spf when exposed to the sun, suitable for your skin type and needs)
      PM:
      Cleanser
      Paula's Choice BHA
      CeraVe Moisturizer
      Azelaic Acid can be used daily, and with the BHA you need to figure out the right frequency for your skin needs. You can start with 2-3 times a week in your evening skincare routine and increase the frequency if needed.

      You can apply The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid on damp or dry skin, it won't change the efficacy of the product.
      If you want to use Hyaluronic Acid in your PM routine as well, use it after PC 2% BHA. Wash your face and pat the skin dry, then apply PC 2% BHA and then wait for it to absorb into the skin and then follow with Hyaluronic Acid. As for your AM routine, yes that's fine. However, if you have oily skin, using a moisturiser isn't really needed.

      Hey! :)
      Well, you can use Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid daily if you like, that's fine!
      Niacinamide can be used in conjunction with retinoids sunscreens, hydroxy acids, and other ingredients without concern for cross-reactivity.
      Hyaluronic acid is a sugar. It is not be confused with other acids like salicylic or glycolic acids, which exfoliate away dead skin cells.
      For example like this:
      AM Routine:
      - Cerave Foaming Cleanser or Avene
      - (Optional) Toner
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - Niacinamide
      - Cerave Lotion
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cerave Foaming Cleanser or Avene
      - (Optional) Toner
      - Salicylic Acid or Lactic Acid (alternate days or weeks)
      - Cerave Lotion
      It's fine to use Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid only 2 times per week, it's also fine to alternate between them from week to week. However, depending on your skin tolerance you may be able to use on of them per week more often than just 2 times per week, which depends on your skin :)
