I remember. Western auditorium of Kyoto University. It was a very old and very large wooden building. Her all night concert. It was cold. But everyone was happy.
One thing I love about Asakawa Maki is that, like Sinatra, no matter how cracked her voice may seem, she's ALWAYS pitch-perfect! She may sound like a broken clarinet with a split reed but she hits the notes perfectly and with enormous personality! XO to this incredible lady!
This is (originally) from her album 'One' from 1980. Song title is 午後 (pronounce 'gogo'), which means 'afternoon'. I have vinyl version.. very smooth. This sounds like re-master for CD.
I always think of her as a talented 60's kid, and then I personally prefer the 1970's to the '80's, but HER '80's material just blows me away! She got weirder, which is ALWAYS a good thing with musicians! This is as haunting as "Onna" and I love her original material even more than her bent take on jazz standards!
I'm very nostalgic, and I'm very fresh, but I'm not sure if this society is getting closer to the worldview of Maki.Or is it that the state of the human mind will not change in any era?
The only thing this song needs is a double Glenlivet 12 year in my hand. and a heavy rain outside my window and a feeling of existential angst (for myself )
ive loved her since i randomly stumbled across her cover of house of the rising sun, cant find it anymore however! only left with her few tracks i can find on youtube, does ANYONE know where/how i can get hold of some of her music in hard copies? and if so, can someone reccomend which one to get? absolutley love her and would hate to forget about it.
Check out the website jpop80s .com! They have all of her albums. I'd recommend 'Maki Asakawa no Sekai' and 'MAKI V' - they're both available for free on the website :)

I worked in a little vintage shop with a great record collection, so I found this double lp and it soon became my favorite :)
Where is this shop?? : ))
