He is 3 years old here. Both implants were done separately. His right one was done at 12 months. When he was 3 we found that the hearing aid in his left wasn't giving him any clarity, so we opted for a second implant. So he went through the surgery again for the left, and this video shows that one being turned on for the first time. They do go back for reprogramming periodically: after 1 week, then every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months at least until they're 18. As the brain adapts, changes need to be made. Although it levels out after the first year, and programming changes are rarely made after the first year. The 6-month checkups are more just to make sure everything is still working properly.
I'm gonna be honest I am deaf in my left ear and I think that everyone sounds loud I couldn't imagine hearing out of it. My kids would drive me up the wall. Now i just turn over to block them out when they are playing.
Haha, I can understand that. My wife is deaf in her right ear and she does the same thing. That's the great thing about the implants for the kids: when they take the processors off, they hear nothing. So whenever they're done with hearing, they can take them off. They'll do that when they're tired.
Adorable. Magic! Thrilled to bits for him 👂🏻
