If a game developer got you to love the main character so much and literally made you cry about them or get emotional about them, then you know the game devs did a great job with the character and the game.
Rockstar's writing of Arthur Morgan is unbeatable. Throughout my whole childhood my dad told me that real men don't cry, I listened to him, prevented myself from crying my whole life, even when we had to drive him to the ER only to watch him die shortly after, I stared at my old man in the coffin and I made sure I wouldn't cry to make him proud, and yet, all of that considered, the events of Chapter 6 made me sob, could be the tears I bottled up through the years, maybe waiting for a release, but in the end the only thing that has ever made me truly bawl my eyes out was this game, which is something that will be forever engraved in my brain.

This is different and addictive and too emotional What kills me from the inside the most is not that Arthur had TB but that Dutch just stood there watching and left Arthur to die alone and never spoke a word to him when it was pretty clear that Arthur was grasping for his last breaths ! Man to be betrayed by a brother is 100 times worse than to be cheated by a woman . I just can't Imagine the frustration that Arthur must have felt in the end after everything he did for Dutch !
The impact this game has had on people is amazing. I've watched the play throughs by the three gamers on the left and it was a privilege to watch them grow to love this game and this wonderful character.
I miss Sarah (reyskywlkr) soooo much. Her play through was the first I ever watched once I finished the game myself and I genuinely hope she’s doing well because I know she was struggling a lot with mental health and comments and stuff towards the end of the play through. I also think the game broke her a little bit. Her play through was amazing
On one of her posts on instagram a commenter reached out to a friend and she said she's fine and happy and doing well, so hopefully she's just alright not having to worry about comments and such
Yeah was tough to watch her. I enjoy seeing people connect with Arthur, but with her, I think she connected a little too much. I think of her often when I watch playthroughs.
I’ve watched a few playthroughs where they talked through all the emotional cutscenes. Don’t talk over Arthur saying ‘I’m afraid’, don’t talk over Tilly saying ‘I’ll miss…’ and don’t talk over Arthur saying goodbye to Sadie and Abigail. One of the reasons why Adum from YMS didn’t enjoy the game is probably because he was joking with Scoot all the way through all the cutscenes.
I wrote a essay about this game when I was in college for Policing, and the assignment was “what makes a hero” and at first I struggled with the topic bc even though I want to be a hero myself (as a policeman) I didn’t know what it meant to be a hero. During the time period before the essay was due I came across this cut scene (as I had high honour) and listening to Arthur talk about his life and emotions and in doing so even though he has run into many problems and despite all the bad things he has done, he still finds the courage within him to help someone in need. And the sister sees this within him and you can tell after sister tells him “I don’t believe in much either but when she sees someone like him, it all makes sense” implying that despite his internal struggles and on going problems with the gang he still makes an effort to be someone’s hero. After reviewing this cutscene I came to realize that a hero isn’t someone who has god like powers to help humanity but rather a hero is a someone who doesn’t give up and therefore puts aside their struggles and internal conflict to help someone who needs it most.
Everyone can be a hero, not because everyone have the courage or the mental strength to endure hardship, but because everyone can help other people in need, no matter what the action, no matter the time, If your actions make other people's life better, you are acting like a hero

There has never, NEVER, been a better voice acting moment in a video game than Roger Clark's delivery of, "I'm afraid." He poured a lifetime of emotion into two words. A masterclass.

Not saying the women don’t understand but that scene really hits different for men who are shown to not show emotions and say how they feel.
This video right here, is a proof that women actually don’t look down upon men when they show their vulnerability. It is okay for men to be afraid, to cry, to be sad or upset. We all are human. we connected with each other through emotions. this fact, is the reason why Arthur is one of the best character ever written in media because we can connected with him, related with him.

The "I'm Afraid" hits hard because of the uncertainty of your own future, especially when in a position such as arthurs where you had leading figures or mentors that cared for you, and lose those you can't trust anymore. In our case. We either lost a father, or mother figure we used to rely on. And now, we're alone with no one to guide us. We're afraid. Because we don't know what to do now. And it's scary.
Rockstar never misses with their games and RDR2 is hands down their best written story and characters they've ever done....hopefully they keep it up but alot of the OGs left so this may be the best writting from one of their games we will ever get
This is one of those scenes that hits harder as you age. Coming to terms with your mortality, and knowing you have too much to lose, it can make anyone afraid. You just have to find newfound purpose and make peace with it. Live a life that won't leave you with any regrets
He has so much regret while confessing his sins, he couldn't even bring himself to look Sister in the eye. Only when he says "I'm afraid" is when he finally looks straight at her.
Bit of a personal story read if you want. Every time I hear this scene it reminds me of my ex, when one chilly night we drove to a random playground left our phones in the car and just played like children for a bit, but then we sat down on the swings and started talking and she said words almost exactly like sister. “I don’t think there’s many.. good people out in the world, but I think you’re one of them.” That still sits with me, even after all this time, such a beautiful cracked soul.
Ngl, the fact that we actually hear Arthur Say that he is afraid of dying... It hits me really hard that i had to pause the game and think About my life
During this conversation I didn't know whether to laugh or cry haha I'm glad I always choose the right path in these types of games but seriously, I think this is the best conversations I've seen in a game
If you read Arthur's journal entry about this encounter (an in-game day or so after this scene) he writes how troubled he was up to that point, but that how the conversation with Sister Calderón basically just freed him of his stress and inner turmoil. You can even see that in the missions and cut-scenes from this point until the end of the chapter; Arthur still has that defeated look and sadness about everything that's happened (and everything he knows will happen) but he no longer doubts himself or pretends anymore. He has accepted his own fate and the fate of the gang.
This is going to sound corny as hell but this scene was a life changer for me. Before I sat there seeing Arthur facing his mortality, I was going through life on auto pilot. That was a wake up call for me. The very next day I signed up for my licensing exams, which I had been putting off for a decade. Passed all six exams, without failing a single one, within a year. The average passing rate on the six exams is about 43% btw - one of them is about 36% and is a known roadblock. It's been 5 years since then now, come back to watch this every year on the date to remember what was and to celebrate how far I've come. How seeing a fictional character confront the reality of his life mirrored my need to do so at a crucial point in my life. Art is art, so long as the medium speaks to you, listen, pay attention. You never know what could spark something you never thought attainable within you. Lastly, do good, a little bit every day, a little bit more than the day before. Make life even a little less painful for someone else, and you'll be happy that you did. We, as Arthur, did that many times, walk that walk.
I swear to god even when i was alone in my apartment I held ld back so many tears, but once arthurs final ride started and my horse was killed, the damn dam broke...
This scene destroyed me i watched my friends dad who was my second father pass away from lumg cancer and i was there when he passed when i played as arthur i sww him...
I never play the game, but that Line 3:11 “ I’m Afraid” is hurt me and makes me cry, seeing his face and his eyes, i fell a lot of pain, fear and loneliness inside of him.
When I started this game, I thought it was basically GTA in a western setting. At some point, it dawned on me that it was actually a reflection in the philosophy of living a life well lived. I’ve never been so pleasantly surprised by a game redefining itself.
I had the most beautiful sunset in Emerald after Sister left. I slowly trotted to Valentine crying for 10 mins. My kids didn’t understand. What a lovely game.
Scenes like this is why Roger Clark won best performance at the game awards, I'd honestly say his portrayal of Arthur is the best performance in gaming ever and it could easily compete with some of the finest acting in cinema
This and the final ride killed me the actual ending was sad but i had come to terms with whats happening...still a masterclass of character devolpment ❤😢
3:11 just goes to show the power of good writing. With some proper character development, a single phrase can change people from normal to crying in 5 seconds. Thats the power that one word can have. Afraid.
it really hurt hearing this man, as bad and as mean and as capable as he was, speak of how afraid he was of this end that - albeit deservingly - was coming for him. He's not innocent, but my heart ached for him as much as it did all those years ago.

The way he says "im afraid" with the look he makes is one of the most sad and powerful scenes in any videogame to this day
When arthur says the word “im afraid”
My tears fell down. So sad for arthur for living a sad life…
I've completed the game almost a year ago now, yet even then, every time this scene hits me I start tearing up
Bit of a personal story read if you want.
Every time I hear this scene it reminds me of my ex, when one chilly night we drove to a random playground left our phones in the car and just played like children for a bit, but then we sat down on the swings and started talking and she said words almost exactly like sister.
“I don’t think there’s many.. good people out in the world, but I think you’re one of them.”
That still sits with me, even after all this time, such a beautiful cracked soul.
Such a great scene, such great characters, and damn good story telling.
Julia does the same thing I do. The laugh/cry combo. Such a weird, unique way for the emotions to escape I always spot immediately.
I was weeping my desk out while playing this beautiful legendary game. My God this was one of the best games I've played so far.😁
Ngl, the fact that we actually hear Arthur Say that he is afraid of dying... It hits me really hard that i had to pause the game and think About my life
ive never realised how many women have played rdr2
A lot of RDR2 playthroughs that are uploaded to RUclips seem to come from mostly women. at least from my experience.

Oh women absolutely LOVE this game. It’s my sister and i’s favorite game ever.
It’s because Arthur is handsome af I think
a lot
During this conversation I didn't know whether to laugh or cry haha I'm glad I always choose the right path in these types of games but seriously, I think this is the best conversations I've seen in a game
That was the exact moment I cried. Just two years older than Arthur when it was released in 2018.
This was that moment where i realised the game has made an emotional connection with me
If you read Arthur's journal entry about this encounter (an in-game day or so after this scene) he writes how troubled he was up to that point, but that how the conversation with Sister Calderón basically just freed him of his stress and inner turmoil. You can even see that in the missions and cut-scenes from this point until the end of the chapter; Arthur still has that defeated look and sadness about everything that's happened (and everything he knows will happen) but he no longer doubts himself or pretends anymore. He has accepted his own fate and the fate of the gang.
I didn't think much of this scene when the game first came out, I was young. Now it hits way too hard
“Often neither do I” hits hard knowing she’s a nun
When he said "I'm afraid" I fucking broke man. This is by far one the the GREATEST videogame characters EVER made
A man cries when he is tired of being strong
Everyone's afraid of the end. But to hear Arthur say it like that? Shit.
“Goodbye Mr Morgan “ that part made me cried
This legit wasn't a game, it was a life experience.
Rockstar didn't just create a new masterpiece, they remade the whole museum with this game.
The moment arthur said he was afraid i broke down in tears
you can feel how that words kills you "im afraid"
I swear to god even when i was alone in my apartment I held ld back so many tears, but once arthurs final ride started and my horse was killed, the damn dam broke...
The smiles faded so fast...
This scene destroyed me i watched my friends dad who was my second father pass away from lumg cancer and i was there when he passed when i played as arthur i sww him...
I never play the game, but that Line 3:11 “ I’m Afraid” is hurt me and makes me cry, seeing his face and his eyes, i fell a lot of pain, fear and loneliness inside of him.
i aint gonna lie this whole game has me emotional
When I started this game, I thought it was basically GTA in a western setting. At some point, it dawned on me that it was actually a reflection in the philosophy of living a life well lived. I’ve never been so pleasantly surprised by a game redefining itself.
I had the most beautiful sunset in Emerald after Sister left. I slowly trotted to Valentine crying for 10 mins. My kids didn’t understand. What a lovely game.
what are the odds that all of them watching had Arthur with the same hairstyle, same beard, same outfit and the same gun on his back
Masterpiece ever. Great
Magine when they get to that horse scene at the end
"...i'm afraid"
that hits hard...
Scenes like this is why Roger Clark won best performance at the game awards, I'd honestly say his portrayal of Arthur is the best performance in gaming ever and it could easily compete with some of the finest acting in cinema
“ I am a bad guy but I’m not a BAD guy “
"I'm afraid" the hardest thing anyone has to admit, to strangers but especially themselves
Big man, afraid to die. Love you, Arthur.
Hearing "afraid" from fearless guy is something
I love how the 2 dudes were just stone cold staring at the screen the entire time
This is one heck of a game. I'm glad i got to experience it.
Good times....
I cried when he thanked his horse at the end. Mine was the blonde Andalusian named Big Nasty.
I had a black and grey dappled Halfbred
I miss you Klogu 😭
I'm not crying you are 😭
Dude on the top right fighting for his life 😂😂😂
Haha the men have to hold like granite 🗿
Only kidding😂 it’s when Arthur says he’s afraid…😢 gets me in the feels. This scene was ever so memorable.
This and the final ride killed me the actual ending was sad but i had come to terms with whats happening...still a masterclass of character devolpment ❤😢
That sentiment haunts me to this day “to this day!”
In Loving Memory Of,

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS
Cause Of Death: *Tuberculosis*
*What Caused Arthur Morgan To Get Tuberculosis?*
Arthur got tubercolosis when he was beating up😡 a farmer👨🌾 named *Thomas Downes* to collect money💰 that he had loaned from *Leopold Strauss.* When Downes didn't have the money to pay him back, Arthur beat him up👊💥 and while doing so, Downes, who was sick🤒🤕 with tubercolosis *coughed blood in Arthurs face,* giving him TB. 🩸
Rockstar you rock 🍻
I felt hopeless when hearing arthur said that..
