I've tried to digest several tutorials about banding for the last hour, and at some point, they all went above my meager skill level and straight over my head. This one stayed at ground level and never left. Excellent! Thank you!
Great tutorial on banding! This was really helpful. From my own experience, I've noticed that adding noise in the Filter > Camera Raw Filter seems to be cleaner and smoother noise. I will add a 50% gray adjustment level, add noise in the Camera Raw Filter, and then change the blending mode to Overlay or Soft Light - and then adjust the Opacity of this layer. This seems to help my banding issues. But, I'm definitely going to try the 8-bit > 16-bit > 8-bit conversion. Thanks again! :D
Maaaan... i’m good at photoshop, but you’re a bloody wizard! I watch a video of yours here and there but when i find the time i’ll have to sit down, watch them all, and follow along and use all the techniques along with you following the instructions. Keep the videos coming - they’re really incredible
I had no Photoshop or Lightroom experience at all so when I started watching Phtoshop/Lightroom videos to help me making my images better I saw your videos and I didn't like it because I only want to do a certain thing and you talk too much, so I went and watched another videos, but then I realized that you have the best tutorials because you explain everything!! so I can understand now and use this knowledge to do anything I want to. You are awesome man keep up the good work...
Amazing tutorial, i tried dither on 16 bit and then switched to 8 bit without gaussian blur, it worked for me. Idk why but gaussian blur increased bands for me 😅
Hi Unmesh, great video as always. One thing tho, 8 bit image gives me 256 color possibilities for each R,G or B color. In total, it will be 2^8^3 = aprox. 1.6 million colors. When we go to 16 bit images, we will get 65.536 colors for each R,G and B, that will result in 2^16^3 = 2.8* 10^14 that means billions of colors. The image size will reflect it as well. Cheers.
so happy I found your channel man. I was watching a video a few days ago and I thought to myself "huh, there's banding in that photo...I wonder how the hell I could get rid of it in my own photos because I always seem to notice it" and BAM this appears in my recommended. Thanks man!
Not only do you make fantastic tutorials but your videos make me smile!! I don't find myself smiling a lot at other tut videos! YOU ROCK!! Keep up the excellent work! Needed this tut as I was working on some photos yesterday and was experiencing this issue when using gradients.
A little critical thinking question regarding banding only when I upload to Instagram: Using Lightroom for this, and I have an image with serious shadowing. There's no visible banding in Lightroom or when I export it and send to my phone, but when I upload to Instagram, there's extreme banding within the shadows. How can I fix this?
Hi PiXimperfect, I've also discovered that decreasing contrast minimizes banding as well... more specifically, decreasing contrast seems to minimize banding effects.
Apply the gaussian blur to the selected area that had the banding. If you are in a higher bit mode, there will be enough colors available to smooth the banding, using the blur technique.
hi there. i have a problem about this banding. i was sure that its not related to 8/16/8 channels or... i created 3 documents with 16/32/8 channels and 300 pix/inch resolution with 2000 width and 1200 of height. and a soft brush. i clicked once on the middle of black solid bg. and it was terrible. it wasn natural and soft and... what can i do?
I think, this guy invented Photoshop
I think he just understood it.
He is the Bob Ross of Photoshop
hahaha, probably
@@Josechpruiz Spot on.

2:49 Ackchyually... the jump from 8 to 16bit is 256x more color steps (2^8=256 vs 2^16=65536)

This is very educational
Unmesh, do you have anything in you magic toolkit to reduce banding introduced by flickering?
What if I'm already working with a 16bit file? 32bit?
Apply the gaussian blur to the selected area that had the banding. If you are in a higher bit mode, there will be enough colors available to smooth the banding, using the blur technique.
Thanks for advice man, works for me fine!
Great! Thank You! Boss
How to do it for Videos? Like with Magix Video Deluxe
hi there.
i have a problem about this banding.
i was sure that its not related to 8/16/8 channels or...

what can i do?
You are brilliant!
Just what I needed!
Thank you SO MUCH , you are the best!!!
If there is cloud in sky, can I use the same active?
cool!!!!!!! thanks!!! IT WORKS ON AFTER EFFECTS TOO!!!!!!!!!
I also figured out if you are using the brush tool and getting banding just select Noise in the brush settings and that gets rid of it.
