I'm so very proud of you all, boys included, working and earning what you desire. Good craftsmanship, ingenuity and resourcefulness. Not to mention lots of grit, -not like sandy grit- but sweat and determination kind of grit. Y'all take care.
I absolutely love this! You guys have done an amazing job. I wish I was younger because if I had known about these houses when I was younger I would have built me one!! Thank you for sharing. Who knows maybe I'm not so old I can't still buy some land build me one. It's lovely!
Thank you so much :) the thing I love most about this style of building is that it can be done with your own two hands, we built it as a family kids, friends, and all :) but no professional construction workers!
Very awesome build, and inspiring for so many of us looking to build our own homes without going into massive debt. I was wondering what the temperatures are like inside your home. We are thinking of doing a similar earth berm build but worried it will not be as effective sheltering is from heat than the traditional open ventilation designs in the tropics.
Thank you! We find that it stays very cool inside even when temperatures reach high 30’ in the summer, providing we keep the doors and windows closed as much as possible.
Very impressed, only 6k…are you going to say what you spent ‘all’ that cash on? This is the Truck..the boys room….they must so love that! Be very interested to here details of the construction, insulation, damp proofing, roof etc.
I could break it down for you.. but long story short we spend a good amount of the budget on the digger guy, to clear the land and dig the foundations.. additionally the materials, drainage pipe, barred wire, bags, wood for the roof and ceiling etc. materials like sand for the render, and gravel for outside the house and under the floors.. and finishing details, fittings, furniture, flooring, fridge etc… With regards to insulation it’s not nesecary with earth bag construction, there is some in the roof but not the walls. The damp proofing is explained in previous episodes where we talk about the drainage and vapour/moisture barrier in the stem wall. And the details of the roof will come up in the next few weeks :)
..ha, I see you have more to watch, I assumed this was the first of many to come. I guess if you have a good supply of free wood, insulation not needed, though ideally we should ‘stop burning stuff’. I would have considered insulation, recall it does get chilly at times even where you are. The earth will be good at retaining heat, but not enough for good insulation. Hopefully am wrong and you have comfy winters!
@@markthomasson5077 the last winter was a average cold one (sometimes in the below zero region in the mornings) and with out thermal mass heater the house was super warm and also very important dry.The walls which a nearly half a meter thick insulate really well as long as you keep heating the house steadily.
What is or was your land zoned as originally urban I guess? I am moving to Portugal to build an earthbag home myself in the very near future. However mine will be most probably rustic land I buy. How did the local government receive your earthbag build idea may I ask?
I have the same question. we are strongly considering Portugal to buy land and build our eco home. but are feeling a bit put off after having seen other people struggle to get planning approval for rustic land
I cannot possibly advise on building permission as it’s different everywhere, I know for example some places in the USA have developed and introduced building regulations for earthbag building, but currently where we are in the south of Portugal there are no guidelines for earthbag construction.
Great, seems refreshingly lax, if only we could do that in UK. Probably would be ok here if just a small garden building…not sure what my neighbours would think though!

6:05 with all those Magueyes it seems like somewhere in Mexico, besides the house also looks kind of a Mexican house.

Cool 👍
Looks great!

This is dope!
Thank you!!!
Legal demais!!
Obrigada ❤
Hey, love your house! Dreaming of doing something like this ourselves! Why did you pick earthbag over cob?
it is both earth bag and cob…
Exactly, the cob itself is only the covering of the earth bags ❤
"CAN YOU DIG-IT?"
Can you please show where you put your wiring and plumbing in a future video
Yes we will come to that later during our extension build! But if you have a specific question just ask us on here
Check out our video tomrorow at 12h for an explaination of the wiring :)

Does it stay cool inside without traditional insulation
Yes but it’s essential to keep all windows and doors closed to keep the hot air out 😁
Hello I live in San Antonio I want to build a earthbag house i need your advice
How can I help?
How many bags for the entire home did you need?
I think it was around 2200 ❤ 100,000kg of earth
👍
👌🏻👍👌🏻
Just wondering how you managed with local building regulations and permits?
ps, don’t answer if it incriminates you!

So how much did that land cost in Portugal?
We bought our land when it was still reasonably cheap 😅
how big is the land where the house is? Or how much land does it cover?
It’s a little bit more than 6000m2
The actual house covers around 140m2
😍
