Thanks MotoJoe it was a great place to film. Sir Michael Jackson filmed part of the Hobbit on a river near here. The barrel scene floating down the river.

It's nice to know that your metal detector can detect gold. I bet it went crazy over the wedding bands.
After he retired, my brother caught gold fever. Be careful. It is addicting, perhaps even more than geocaching.
Pretty area; thanks for sharing it with us so we can live vicariously through you.

Yes it set off a very strong signal, we got very excited, then a little embarrassed, then laughed and laughed. I am sure gold fever is very real just like finding a great geocache!

Great scenery and a cute spot for afternoon tea and a geocache too. Thanks for taking us along once again. Cache in the rocks ughh. Just knew there had to be beer in there somewhere :)

Yes a great beer. There are two breweries in New Zealand that make copies of the beer James Cook brewed here on his voyage into the Pacific.

lol you found gold! Not new gold though, you re-found your own gold. Priceless! ;D
Couldn't resist getting the cache where you stop for a drink, but of course! Or did the cache take you there? :)
The weka seems a lot like a chicken, neat!
Thanks for sharing your experiences :)

We got very excited, then embarrassed, then laughed a lot! The cache definitely took us to the country store and the tea and scones. Never knew it was there. We don't know of another like it. Yes a bit like a small chicken but fully protected you are not even allowed to keep a feather!

I have liked learning a little bit out the Weka birds through your videos. It's really neat to see something that's only native to a certain spot. Too bad you didn't find gold this time, but you did find a few geocaches and had a fun adventure, so not all was lost. Thanks for another great episode of Cache Walks!

Thanks. More caching and gold hunting coming up soon. Fingers crossed.

You also seem to have a good knack for finding Geocaches and beer, so forget about looking for gold.

Really good beer is hard to find like gold or even geocaches! Still can't believe how often it features in our Cache Walks!

great adventure , to bad you didn't get any gold though ;)

It was fun looking but we started as complete beginners. This was the wrong place for us to try first. More experienced people do sometimes find gold here but in small amounts.

I know the series it was one of the things that got us interested. There is more about gold panning in our next weeks video. It's relatively easy to pan. The real trick is to know where! Here in New Zealand you can't just search anywhere as you need a mining licence but fortunately the Government has set aside small sections of some rivers for recreational gold fossicking and you can pan there for free.
