When I was 8-9, that was about 10 years ago, my parents rented a cottage for the winter and the owners left a Nintendo 64 on a small tv next to my room. This meant waking up at 7 to go play mario kart !! I had a 64 at home so I knew how to play but we never owned the Mario kart game! I was already loving the old aesthetic of the game. In other words, do not give away your old consoles right away! If it wasn’t for my older brother and those owners, I would have never experienced this gameplay, even though I was already very much used to the graphics of Mario kart wii

I was born April 1996 but only got to play this game a little bit at my friend's apartment. I didn't have an N64 growing up, I had the GameCube and original Xbox. This was my very first game. Now that I'm older, I'm buying this from my Wii U.
Fun fact: my mom taught me you can jump off the bridge and land on another part of the track in the beginning and have a serious head start 😌but you have to time it other wise you don’t make it
MK 64 had the best roads... the coolest backgrounds and in stead of the mere 3 Peels... 5 peels behind your cart and the Blue Shell was an Epic appearance
I remember wondering why the Mario Kart 8 version of this track was divided into sections because I've never played Mario Kart 64 before it. I eventually got the chance to when I got it on the Wii virtual console a while later and I can honestly say that this is one of the most tedious tracks i've ever played in the series. I don't have ANY issues with the changes in Mario Kart 8.

N64's RR was made to be relaxing (the music, course difficulty). Mario Kart 8's remake was made to be a bit more suspenseful (less relaxing, more instrumental music, and removal of some guard rails). Don't say, "Oh, N64 RR captures the rewarding relaxing feeling better" when MK8's wasn't even intended to do that. They both have good graphics for their era.

I guess they really couldn't remake it by simply just updating the track with prettier graphics, because the track really is quite empty by today's standards. They've made it a lot flashier, and the old neon lights with the characters are now fireworks. One can only imagine for the Rainbow Road in 1080p though, as Mario Kart 8, based on all the trailers and all the native screenshots they've been sending out, runs in 720p natively. A game that pretty, I didn't think they'd be able to handle it in 1080p.
Yep, Digital Foundry, a respected tech analyst (the same guys that confirmed Wii U"s REAL hardware capabilities) confirmed it. The game is native 720p, and while it actually runs at 60fps, it "dips" to 59fps. I'm glad it's finally confirmed so we can put the stupid "1080p/60fps" to rest.

This always just felt like a liminal space, in limbo, like Snake Way from DBZ; I thought of chain chomps as the devil, and if you win the race then you get to go to heaven!! (A little morbid, I know. I'm biased towards N64, 3D Rare games were my childhood. But this track just still feels kinda like a liminal space that's decorated with neon signs...)
I love it how there's this 1 part of this video where Peach gets hit by Luigi and falls down off the road and then in this other part of this video where it looked like Peach was falling off and then Peach comes back on course and slips on Luigi's group of bananas. XD
I think in Kalamari Desert it's really easy to pull far ahead of them compared to the other tracks. I dunno, I just did it a few minutes ago, so maybe I just got lucky as well.

This is probably my least favorite Rainbow Road out of all the ones in the series mainly because of how ridiculously long and very easy it is, but a few things I do like about it are the lights that display the characters, the ultra shortcut at the start that can be really hard to pull off, and the epic music it has.
Can’t wait to get a chance to play this once the n64 classic comes out on my snes classic I wasn’t entirely pleased with the way it turns but that’s just me and this one looks sooo much fun
Maybe it’s not so hard and your time is not wasted so the whole lap of N64 Rainbow Road has 3 sections instead of 3 laps just like 3DS Wuhu Loop, 3DS Maka Wuhu, 3DS Rainbow Road, Wii U/Switch Mount Wario & Wii U/Switch Big Blue.
I'm sure when I used to play this there was a cheat where if you veered left at the right time you could float thru space and cut out half the track.... this was my fave level by far!
