Thank you I watched your original video last year and it was a great help in setting up to teach my students online. I use Microsoft One note on an iPad as my tablet and synchronise it with One Note on my laptop which I share with my students on screen over either Zoom or Skype. I used a camera to teach constructions ( a great tip thank you ). I watched this time to see would a bigger screen to write on be a god idea I saw what you used and I’ll look into that. Anyway thank you so much for your advice which helped me so much.
It's interesting to see your set up, Kevin. I have recently bought a remarkable 2 and am experimenting with it. Up until now, I've been using a surface pro for most of my screencasts - I prefer to write directly onto the screen. (Although I prefer my wacom tablet when I'm marking students' work, so that I can easily use a keyboard too.)
Yes I mainly use the Remarkable for offline tasks more like a notepad but it's useful that it can sync things up and add pdfs easily. I agree - actually I also use the surface pro occasionally but not so much for teaching so didn't include it here. Tempted by one of the tablets that has a screen, but have never quite been convinced they'll be better enough than the regular wacom for the price which has worked well for a long time.
Yes, one thing at a time - I gradually got extra things as I had more students but didn't start with so much - you can still teach very well with more basic tools but a simple tablet is very helpful.
Thanks for another excellent video, Kevin. On your original video, you mentioned a website for matching teachers with students - it was something like "Choose Fair". Is there such a site?
I love your video its being very helpful, but i just want to teach maths videos then upload to RUclips ,facebook and other sites .. i dont want my face showing ,just my audio and the video of the teaching, which apps would you recommend for this , will the wacon tablet and white board be okay, and how do i get a video out from the white board display so that it can be uploaded having my voice ...thanks anticipating for your response.
Hi, I'd like to ask a quick question if possible; In terms of online teaching and tutoring, how are you able to ensure that the pupil is completing their work correctly? For instance, I am assuming that not every pupil will have a whiteboard they can use on "their side" and may only be using pen and paper. Additionally, if a pupil is learning about plotting points, coordinates, scale drawing etc etc, how does a pupil engage with that aspect of teaching? I am thinking they'd need the grid or the graph in front of them to be able to do it - like what happens if they're plotting pie charts? Thank you in advance, love your content by the way!
Thanks Richard - to be honest most of my students are 1-1 so it's not too much of a problem. When I have small groups I tend to use Zoom polls to get feedback and invite students to give answers/write on screen where possible. But for these I'm generally dealing with quite engaged and enthusiastic as my classes are about extension material. I imagine it would be more challenging with a typical class or with students who were less keen. For drawing questions it can be a bit tricky - I've come up with plenty of ways of demonstrating effectively using online whiteboards or watching one of my videos together- to see their work if it's 1-1 some will write on iPads etc or I'll often just get them to hold it to the screen. Or it could be dealt with by setting them some work that they scan in and photograph and the lesson is to give feedback rather than for them to actually be doing it. So I think most problems can be addressed with a bit of thought and planning - and perhaps a bit more flipping of what is usually done with the teacher present or as homework. But I am fortunate to generally have engaged students with good resources which makes it easier - unfortunately this is true for in person teaching as well as online - indeed I think when we find these sorts of issues online with engagement etc they are more similar to things that come up in the classroom, but the distance can make them harder to deal with. Good luck with your teaching!
Yes it varies, mostly these day I use booking software that handles this, takes payment and sends Zoom links etc (Acuity scheduling) but invoicing in the traditional way with bank transfers etc. also works well.
@@Mathsaurus And how much do you think I would need to set up the minimum requirements for such a desk set-up. I used to do in-person tutoring but public transport wasted a lot of time. Do you think £500 could buy the essentials for online tutoring?
@@I.M2008 Yes (assuming you already have some sort of pc or laptop) that's more than enough. Start basic, upgrade once you have some students. BitPaper + a basic £50 writing tablet is really all you need to start - I'd go for a decent webcam/mic as the next upgrade - probably the mic more than the camera, bad sound is very annoying!
Hi, I have been teaching English for years, but I have only recently got my masters in applied mathematics. Due to the worldwide pandemic, I was forced to teach my regular classes and courses online. Surprisingly, I love it. Because of it, I have been playing around with the idea of switching from English to Mathematics and focus more on online teaching rather than the regular kind. However, I am not sure what would the best way of doing this would be. I only have a contract with a local language school so I have no idea about the right way to go about this. I thought about applying to various online sites that provide tutoring, but there are just so many of them... Any advice about where to start, or at least what the first steps should be? Thank you kindly for a possible reply.
Sorry for the slow reply - it's probably easiest to start out with online tutoring with people you already know, then you can also get recommendations and reviews. But it's also possible to put up adverts - there may be many options, but just pick a few and put an ad up - don't fear failure, the worst that can happen is you get no responses, but these things start slowly and will build up gradually over time as you get more students and build more expertise. We are all beginners in the beginning!
@@Mathsaurus Thanks for the reply. However, part of my motivation was to teach foreign students (I am already teaching some math in my country). So I think it will be hard to make my students switch to some online platform and give reviews to get things started. I would be starting from scratch pretty much... I was hoping you could maybe suggest some online platform, website or something of that sort. Ideally something that is reputable and does not limit teachers to be of specific nationality. In case you have little experience with those, that is OK. I appreciate the response either way :)
@@samugolxiii3963 Ok, I have used TutorFair a lot and would recommend it, I don't know about any requirements they may have about where tutors are located I'm afriad.
@@Mathsaurus Thanks. Unfortunately, one of the requirements to apply as a tutor on that site is to have a UK bank account and a UK phone number. Given the fact that I am currently residing in Slovakia, that may prove difficult.

very good innovative high tech internet online teaching gadgets ( visual smartphone camera with holder ,writing pad attached to desktop pc without touchscreen , but the content of teaching maths very suitable to primaryschool and lowersecondaryschool standards .Good trial for beginner setup teaching system .
I haven't used any software that allows this - the things I use only allow all students to write on the same whiteboard. I suspect that this is possible with some software, but it might not be so easily available - at school in computer rooms we used to have something that you could see all the students desktops on so it must be possible, but then they were all on the same local network. I'd be interested to know if you do find something like this too so please let me know if you do!
My mother is a qualified math's teacher in India .She wants to teach senior secondary school students abroad online. Is it feasible and which company or websites give the highest pay ? thanks in advance!
Good luck to her! I'm not sure about particular websites as most of my own students come via contacts or enquiries to my own website, but the main options are trying to sign up for an agency who will fix the rates (might be harder to get in and work internationally) or use one of the 'marketplace' type websites where you can set your own rates which might be a good way of finding a broader audience.
Hi brother I have seen your many videos since l subscribe your Chanel. It is nice. I am highschool mathematics teacher in Ethiopia. I have ample experience in teaching math including home to home tutor. But now i am going to start online tutor. I have laptop. Wacom intuos tab, webcam and microphone. But i don't know how to get my first student to coach online. Would you give me tip about it.
I think your personal contacts are your best starting point and just letting people know that you're offering tuition is a good start, even if they don't have children themselves you never know who they might recommend you to. I'd say about half of my students come from people I know or have worked with in the past, and the other half from advertising online. So place ads on websites for tutors too, there are many out there. Also, you just have to be a little patient - there are key times in the year when people tend to be looking for tutors, at the start of the school year and in the run up to major exams. There are times of the year when I don't expect to get any enquiries, and then many come at once. Good luck with your teaching!
