I accept that as a RUclips creator you face a certain amount of pressure to cultivate a unique brand identity and thus start every video with a lead in but at least for me, I really appreciate what you did with this video. Short and to the point.
I have been fishing YNP for more than 40 years and have fished SBC above the Lamar Valley a number of times over the years. I have never found the waters to be very productive. Its amazing because the water looks so incredibly "fishy". A Cut here and there but never anything consistent and after 40 years of fly fishing, I am reasonably proficient.
SBC gets hit hard. You need the right fly, (one they haven’t seen, probably), put in the tightest, most hidden spots on the first cast. They’re cutties, but they get tired of getting caught, even though people think they’re stupid. Also, cast perfectly, get a strike or not and then move on.
Really pretty section of river to explore. Unfortunately seems a little sterile. It helps to have some refreshing beverages packed for when there's more fishing than catching :)
Nice Glock haha. What are the regs over there for carrying? I know they have open carry in both states but as of the park do they have anything specific?
YNP is an "exclusive jurisdiction", meaning that the lands within are federal property, and the adjacent law enforcement agencies have no jurisdiction (as in concurrent jurisdiction). If you are bringing a firearm to or through the park, in has to be disassembled and kept out of site. Even if you have a concealed carry permit from Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming, you may not lawfully have an assembled firearm in your possession (on your person, or in your vehicle, or in your trailer).
@@TimSmith-ud3yn Do you have a source for this information? Everything I have seen on NPS/Yellowstone says you can have one. You just can't discharge it, carry it into buildings and must follow state regulation.
I was a seasonal LEO in Yellowstone several years ago. I would recommend you call the park directly, and ask one of the law enforcement rangers, to be safe.@@NotTheMedicH60
I fish in YNP most years. Not that particular stream, though. It's hard to believe that there were no fish to be caught where your friend ( son? ) was fishing--unless you didn't get to capture it on video. I've also had days when I barely escaped from getting skunked...
there were SO many people this year in the park.... you almost couldn't find a spot on the water. Andy (friend) is a pretty good fisherman... me... not so much...
@@BigSexyBeastAdventures I fished the Gardner River on July 15 in 2020. It ran too high and a lot of the river was off limits due to COVID. Even the parking lots I normally use were blocked off. I did OK, but it was mostly smaller browns and rainbows. I've been fly fishing since 1988. It takes a while to really get into it. There's a lot to learn. If you're just starting out, you may want to look at Tom Rosenbauer's books and RUclips videos. He's really excellent. Just do a search for his name on RUclips and you'll find his tutorials. He's one of the best presenters out there.
There are A LOT of fish in there. Especially in the deeper pockets, pools and runs of Ice Box Canyon (it looked like you were at the tail end of the canyon). Nearly EVERYONE is lazy and hits the meadow section. Next time you go, lose the soft sandals, put on some flexible chest high waders and don rugged wading boots. Try to fish during lower flows in late-August through mid-September. Bushwhack down into the deepest sections of the canyon you can reach and forget delicate 'match-the-hatch' fishing. Put on some heavily weighted nymphs (sz 10 beadhead hares ear trailed by a sz 12 beadhead Prince) and fish those deep sections hard with a long leader and larger strike indicator. 4x tippet to the first fly ... 5x tippet to the dropper. Back-ups would be a beadhead sz 14 olive caddis emerger with a sz 16 mercury RS-2 or zebra midge as a dropper. I've averaged 8 - 10 per hour at that time of year using those techniques. The fish are mostly 11-13 inches, but I've pulled a few fat 16-18 inch cutts out of there. Be willing to wade deep (up to your belly button). When you run out of room to move up more, switch to a yellow or white bead head wooly bugger; streamer fish your way downstream and pick up a few of the fish you missed on the way up. crazy guys. the trouts in Soda Butt Creek are cutthroat trout (no brown trout). Very cool to drive through a nationalpark with a barking dog. Camara stabilization off. If you guys learn to fly fish at some point, you will catch a trout with every cast on the Soda Butt. This video is a joke.

Thanks. I just mad that new intro for 2021. I felt like shorter was. Better!

Waters nice and clear 👌
It really was. Back in that little canyon was amazing
Good job

It was beautiful back in that canyon... but no fish action. Agreed. Would have been a great day for an IPA
One of my dreams is to go fish there 👏Ace vid 🙌New sub
Welcome aboard! Agreed. It’s a special place.

I’ll check him out. I’ve started with a tenkara to keep it simply. My biggest challenge is slowing down and being present.

ridiculous. there are so many trout there.
How far upriver did you go along the Boulder?

I think when you make a fishing video you are actually supposed to catch a fish……..
No fish were harmed in the making of that video ;)
If you dont catch a fish on Soda Butt, you will never catch one.
