- Powerhouse 2010 performs their "Alice in Wonderland" themed set at the Fairfield Crystal Classic, March 6, 2010.
Directed by Brendan Jennings
Choreography by Marie Gutierrez, Jen Oundjian, and Jason Myhre.
I remember being backstage helping one of the other groups and watching them perform. It was awesome.
I love their a'cappella. It sounds fantastic! Perfect mix of crescendos, vibratos and consistent SATB blend.
Seeing this show in person is just..wow.
Insane.
I could barely breathe.
Wow. What a talented group of "kids"--and the fact that they are basically self-supporting in their efforts to be involved in the arts, and SO good at it, how impressive!
wow i love burroghsss
Their vocals are PERFECT. I mean, good God, that is PERFECT.
This is why I love Southern California.. we have the best arts~
There is no one like them! Powerhouse alway's pushes the envelope! Win or Lose! Good for them!
AHHHHHHHH! I was there!!! They were the best group i have everrr seen!
i was part of the Ada Varsity Singer
i saw this exact show and i was in 6th grade....first year of show choir, and my friends were in total AWE!!!!! i wish i couldve saw it a second time....or third :)
TY Häakon and company!! =D
I love PowerHouse :)
Whoa. Ah-mazing A capella song! Just wow!!!!!!!
I SAW THIS!!!!! IT WAS SOOOOO COOL!!!!!!! i just wish that i couldve seen them this year :(
I love the clarity of this groups vocals - I think they could possibly be a bitttt more dark though.
@Chengsta92 The reason why they are using dark songs to their advantage for the story line is because the credit falls upon the musical arranger. He takes modern pop songs and re-writes them to original arrangements. We also have to get licensing rights to songs that are too recent like the first solo. Sometimes other show choirs buy some of our music and licensing rights. Its OK, because we want VMA across the nation to share and do excellent as well. Lots of talent in this world.
Why have I never heard of this Burroughs set it's so cute
I don't get how you can dislike this? :O
Holy "Golden Afternoon" Batman! That was amazing!
@Chengsta92 The main choreographer has a lot to do with it, too. As well as participating in costume design. Creative people impress me. The kids then take off with the support and helps their self esteem.
its almost like im watching the actual movie!
@DOA223
Absolutely agree. A show dosen't have to be dark to be good. However, I am a huge fan of breaking the traditional upbeat "show choir" sets.
@PrestoMovie12 I disagree actually. There are plenty of show choirs, especially in the south and midwest, that still apply a VERY traditional approach to shows. I personally love dark songs, as long as they serve the purpose. Groups who do dark songs just for the sake of doing dark songs irritate me. But groups such as Powerhouse, who use those songs to their advantage and create a storyline using songs from multiple genres and moods... those groups have my full respect and attention.
LOL.I felt like I was on acid or shrooms watching this...
@strgrl424 Schools at least in California that have show choir aren't glee clubs, they're actual classes that you can take, so yes, it depends what school you go to. My school has 39 people. Some schools like John Burroughs go up to even about 80 or something. John Burroughs is a very choir orientated school compared to most, so they are known for their choir program.
I remember seeing them around at this competition and I couldnt figure out why they had their hair like that....until I saw this exact show. I really wish they would come to Fairfield again
they were second in this comp, they were thrid in los al last year (2012)
The 2:20 dance break looks so cool on the lifts.
This reminds me soo much of brodway...
@firenzable I mean they do perform shows that are par to those on a broadway stage. They also pay about 3,000 a year to fund for all the props and such, but amazingly worth it. Their shows are magical and so powerful.
@DOA223 I agree. Our shows are no where near what Clinton's is but our choreographer Jason Johnson said that we cleaned up our first number like them. I honestly think East Coast looks up to them.
Mad World/Let Me Fall by Tears for Fears/Carly Smithson. Let Me Fall is an unreleased song
@truvelocity The arranger certianly gets credit for recreating songs, but I think whoever came up with the storylines, concept and song selections for this and last years shows is the true genius.
@cartmanclone515 yeah :) usually the lighting is done by other students known as the "techs" they do lighting, and set up among other things.
@firenzable ... I think that classic show choirs like Clinton attache will always stay true and original. They're shows are so flawless and it's refreshing to see that they still can win and conquer with true, purely entertaining show choir.
They should have performed part of this on Oprah.
@lulu4ever2 WELl they practice everyday, its their zero period and during comp seasons, they practice in the afternoon
Well, I think that in the context of the show, the level of darkness works pretty well. It gives tim burton a run for his money enough as it is, I think if it were more dark, it might go a tad overboard.
can someone please put up all the names of the songs they did in this video? that would be awesoem YAY! showchoir :)
@radgirl21 lmao Yes, I know I'm from Diamond Bar Marquis, haha so I know a bit about Burroughs and I have a friend in Sound Sensations. :) Haha. Thanks for the info though haha. Haha but I was saying like 80 people in one choir not the choir department. xD
This is what TRUE show choir is. The problem with the east coast is that EVERYBODY copies clinton, in one way or another. Clinton needs to change up their style for ANY progress towards the new, more artistic style to take place. It's about time we start embracing the "show" part. That's exactly what this choir represents.
the show themes are so cool and unigue...i come up with shows......on another note the soloist in Mad World isnt having her best performance! i think it is weird that during the ballad(Golden Afternoon) the director conducts for them.But the ballad is a great choiceThe 3rd song choice is a relief from the seriousness of the rest show
SHANNNNNNNOOOONNNN IS THEEEEEE HOTTTTTTEEEEEESSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT
Oh my bad, I thought you meant like dark as in theme, not vocals
Just a random question....is it normal to have that many people in a glee club?? sorry, my school doesnt have one so the only insight i get is from glee lol
@ashleymarieism Umm What Outside funds?
@Sirmaori More southern and midwestern (traditional) than East coast.
This at Fairfield?
How many people boys and girls are in this group?
Powerhouse got 2nd at this comp but 3rd last year at los al due to going overtime but would of placed 2nd if otherwise.
@cruzaroni Preach it!
@cruzaroni me too.. lol...
I can see your point, However when I listen to the women at 0:33 or at 1:00 - I want a nice big chest-resonant dark WOMAN sound, it seems a tad bright to me, but I'm very biased towards dark vocals... just my personal tastes...
@colinloynachan She is my daughter and I agree with you. But... She's 17, hardly a woman, yet.
do i count 52 people?? O_O
what's the song at 1:40 - 3:50
Let's watch Glee try to beat that ^_^
@soysoi "Let Me Fall" by Carly Smithson
"let me fall" by who??
@sohnnysdream Yesss
@miscNathalie "Let Me Fall"
@712riah Hi Mariah, You can check out the studio version of "Let Me Fall" that they recorded at /watch?v=R0mAUOReMTs
james rizzo is so STUDLY no jk
they sing well and its a cool show they just dont dance! that's a very main aspect of what show choir is
@TheCreazilCrew So I've heard, lol.
@Chengsta92 I don't remember the last time I've seen an upbeat show choir that had more than 45 people lol. Everyone just goes for dark, gloomy, and semi-controversial nowadays it seems.
Really is that true?
@coldplaychica carly smithson
8 people got beat by this showchoir...
Unfortunately they got 3rd place for this grand champion performance
