If you are facing difficulty in selecting the correct point the I would suggest you to select points using right contextual menu. Press and hold shift key then right click, a contextual menu will appear from this menu select the point to which you want to snap for example in this case you would want to snap to midpoint. Repeat the process for other points too.
This tutorial is very helpful. I can't do part 3. Whenever I try to create the rectangle. It gives me a line. It's on Autocad 2014. How do I change it?

Obviously you have to complete the registration in order to access student version of AutoCAD, but I guess this little exercise is worthy as you are getting AutoCAD 3 year student license for free :)
Thanks it works perfectly but now the rectangle keeps going at the bottom. It doesn't want to stay on top. How do I make it stay on top to presspull it?
DDALG 84 you can change plane of drawing before making rectangle by using coordinates panel or you can move rectangle to desired height using move command.
i select shell, then select 3d object, then select the face i want to remove, hit enter. punch in distance of .1 for shell offset. select shell from options below....the cube does not get shelled. Any help on this?

i cant seem to get the 3rd point ! The shape always comes out crooked.

DDALG 84 turn off OSNAP by pressing F3 and then create rectangle once you have created your rectangle press F3 again to turn on OSNAP
